If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sean Mcnally requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. | Uncle Milty | talk | 17:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (Dukesportsinfo) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. | Uncle Milty | talk | 17:26, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Status and Advice

[edit]

The head baseball coach at Duke very probably is sufficiently notable for a Wikipedia article, but, as reviewing administrator, I had to delete the one you submitted. You may certainly use the official university p. on him for information, but you may not copy it. Even were you to get the university to explicitly license the rights to the material according to our licensing, as explained in WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:Donating copyrighted materials , it would still not be suitable. That page is devoted in considerable part to giving praise of his accomplishments and those of the members of the team-- Wikipedia does not do that--it states his accomplishment, and includes references to the opinions about him that have been published in 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases, or, indeed from anyone at Duke.

I urge you to pick another user name as explained just above, and rewrite the article from scratch, using a variety of published general news and sports news sources from outside the university and Durham. Good luck with it. For additional advice, see WP:FIRST. (and also WP:NPOV) DGG ( talk ) 17:45, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
