A tag has been placed on User:Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. How does X work?

[edit]

{{helpme}} I can't seem to get this to post. One more try... we have been denied but our other signature institute was not and since we respected the formatting, I'm not sure what we are missing, but are happy to try to fix the problem. See Franklin Humanities sites on Wikipedia. --Duke Institute for Brain Sciences (talk) 18:46, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Well, at least that bit worked!
The problems are per the above notice; the article is not encyclopaedia, it reads like an advert. It doesn't have any references to reliable sources, so we cannot verify the facts. Wikipedia strives to present neutral, well-referenced information.
Perhaps most important of all is, if you are involved with the institute, then you should not create the article at all, due to your conflict of interest - see the business FAQ. If that is the case, then I recommend that you work on other articles instead.
Before creating any other article, please read WP:FIRST.
I hope that this answers.  Chzz  â–º  18:52, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope that I don't seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: NO REASON GIVEN. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your views, for instance, your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

There are several options available to you:

Thank you.  Chzz  â–º  18:57, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Duke Institute for Brain Sciences/Sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
