Re: Dave Rosenberg

[edit]

Hi -- I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but all of your edits appear to be related to various musical ventures by someone named Dave Rosenberg. I have noticed a repeated pattern of edits to Surf music, adding links to Dave Rosenberg's cover band The All Star Surf Band, and another group (which appears to be either an alternate name for, or a closely related band) Strange But Surf. If you are Dave Rosenberg, please be aware of the guidelines descibed at WP:AUTO -- it is considered inappropriate to add material about yourself to Wikipedia.

Surf music is an article about the genre in general; as someone who has followed surf music for many years, and who has heard (quite literally) hundreds of hours of surf recordings, I am highly skeptical of a claim that these bands are notable enough (per WP:BIO) for inclusion in the article.

This is my reasoning:

Man or Astro-Man and Los Straitjackets are each notable enough to warrant their own entries on the English Wikipedia, as well as biographies on All Music Guide, and over 200,000 results each on Google [1] [2] [3]. The All Star Surf Band and Strange But Surf have not warranted their own articles on the English Wikipedia, are not documented on AMG, and each generate less than 1,000 hits on Google. I believe I am justified in asserting that Man or Astro-Man and Los Straitjackets are useful and representative examples of surf revival bands based in the eastern U.S., and that the aforementioned bands based on Long Island are not particularly appropriate examples for the general Surf music article at this time.

If you disagree strongly, please discuss the matter at Talk:Surf music so that we may resolve the dispute without the provocation of an edit war.

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thanks. --G0zer 17:37, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. This is a non-notable band according to the criteria set out in WP:BAND. Perhaps Myspace would be a better location for this information rather than an encylopedia, until the criteria are satisfied.  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  21:56, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
