Falkland Islands Article in Arbitration

Having briefly reviewed the article's discussion history, I've identified you as a potentially aggrieved editor whose contributions may have been negatively impacted by the actions of a group of editors who are alleged to be POV-pushing and engaging in WP:GAMES. I invite you to peruse the arbcom request and voice your opinion and experiences, at your leisure. The link is:

British Rail Class 142

You said the manufacturer stated that there are 106 or 121 seats on a 142. Yet Northern Spirit, Merseytravel and Arriva Trains Wales have all refurbished units so they are many different seating patterns. If you have any up-to-date references saying there are only 106 or 121 seat combinations, then please add them to the article. Otherwise leave well alone. 217.37.120.25 (talk) 08:23, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

T&W sta infobox

I have made an alteration to this so now it is possible to add platforms. However, i feel i have made it compulsory and so it may need to be added to all stations. I have left a similar message on the WP:T&W talk page Simply south 01:01, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I have changed the title so that it may be possible in future to add things under the operations, not just the platforms. (I also sometimes need to think more first!) I think i only changed Monument so i'll check. Simply south 11:22, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure I understand the reason behind your tagging well enough to be able to fix it. The AfD for this article initially forced an overabundance of sources from a variety of places which is why there are so many print sources available, though considering theatres strive for reviews, post auditions, and experience controversy, I find it difficult to understand exactly what this tag is going for. Perhaps you could enlighten me as more details in your reasoning, and advice as to what needs to be done. Of course, any help would be appreciated as well! Thanks. --Enhanceddownloadbird 18:03, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Got your note on my talk about the panoramic image. That's fine. Just a question... You said: 'I notice you've undone my reversion already before I could finish this note. I will undo that, not out of spite, but purely because I didn't get the chance to tell you why before.'

I don't understand... I did no reversion of the page - I only made one edit which was soley to make it a wide image. J.P.Lon 00:06, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, DrFrench, could I remind you of the three-revert rule, which in a nutshell is that "Edit warring is harmful. Editors who revert a page in whole or in part more than three times in 24 hours, except in certain special circumstances, are likely to be blocked from editing". Whilst I agree that the timetable information isn't appropriate, it doesn't come under any of the exemptions from 3RR. If 81.109.234.187 puts the information back in after you have removed it, you should discuss this on the talk page. If you ignore the 3RR you could be blocked despite your edits being well intentioned. Adambro 13:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

You just wanna get rid of something you dont like and has had some work put into it - i think it very selfish and you havent asked if anyone eles dosnt want them in

This is a cross-post. Due to your Edit waring over Highland Chieftain and Caldeonian Sleeper, you've violated 3RR, therefore I've reverted to a pre-edit-war version and reported you both on the 3RR noticeboard. Please refrain from editing the articles until the matter has been settled. Thanks, Will (Speak to Me/Breathe)(Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash) 13:48, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I wasn't aware that editing in line with our policies and guidelines was contrary to consensus, of which you are clearly the ultimate arbiter. Chris cheese whine 21:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
What it doesn't say is that you need to obtain a consensus of immediately-involved parties every time you want to make a small change, when there are perfectly good policies and consensus behaviour already. Drop in to WP:IFD some time and see various cosmetic imagery get deleted on a regular basis. I even brought this up at the Pump, and the response seems to be in no doubt about it. It seems you are clearly misunderstanding what consensus actually means. Chris cheese whine 21:56, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Can you please refrain from constantly undoing other people's edits without first discussing them on the talk page? I see you have already been temporarily banned in the past for such actions.

Well you may have noticed that I have backed down and created a new Top Gear Dog page, the aim being for this to make "featured article" status at some point. The presenter part of the main Top Gear page that has become so argued about has been removed.

If you disagree, I recommend to make your opinions clear on the Talk:Top_Gear_Dog page. Davesmith33 19:48, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Tyne and Wear metro nameboards

Please stop edit-warring over the issue of nameboards for the Tyne and Wear Metro station articles (e.g. Haymarket Metro station). Some kind of compromise needs to be reached, and persistent tit-for-tat reversions will not achieve this. I have left this message for all the editors involved.

As a compromise, I suggest having the nameboards somewhere else in the article but not as the station name in the infobox. Personally, I think this is the fairest solution. Please give it consideration. --RFBailey 19:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Northern City Line

You can revert whatsoever you wish, as long as you have the interests of the article at heart. I was puzzled by your decision to remove the London Underground at Highbury & Islington though. I would have thought this merited inclusion. Ho hum ... I do not know what the rules are for what to inlcude/exclude on the maps ... perhaps you can point me to your source of information on this. Miner2049er 09:46, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I certainly do have the interest if this (and other articles) at heart. I guess there are no 'rules', but I try to keep things simple but informative. I have created a number of maps for a variety of articles, but each one is different. It can be difficult to decide what to include or exclude, but I guess it's best to think 'does including it add anything to the diagram' or 'will excluding it detract from the diagram'. Adding in lines that don't connect with the route being mapped isn't generally going to add anything and often make it harder to understand. Each station is linked, so the reader can click the Highbury wikilink for more information. If you add the Victoria line and Thameslink, then someone will add the Northern line, and the North London line and the Circle line... and in the end you won't be able to see the Northern City line! DrFrench 21:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Whatever ... Miner2049er 21:13, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Dear sir, the message that you left on my talk page was rather aggressive and impolite. I am new to this place, so may I kindly remind you of of WP:BITE and WP:KETTLE. This place is all about cooperation and collaboration, so please do not take any edits of the Northern City Line to represent an incursion into your territory. Miner2049er 21:33, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
??? Yes you are new - but what was the reason for the "Whatever" comment you posted above? thatwas uncalled for. I was polite to you when I posted on your talk page originally and I was polite to you when answering your question above. I didn't think your "whatever" comment was either polite or justified. Asking you to be civil is not aggressive or biting the newbies and seeing as I wasn't rude to you, I'm not quite sure what your point is. DrFrench 21:40, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
:::: Sir, you did not fully answer my question of the source of your information of what to include/exclude on the maps. Your explanation seems to infer that there are 'no rules', and that it is up to individual editors to decide what is best. To my mind this invites 'edit wars' and does nothing to ensure an element of consistency between maps. I would remind you that 'anarchy' is not an option ... we need clear rules/guidelines ... and so I further request that you point me in the direction of them. BTW, I find your offhand attitude not to my liking, and is not WP:CIVIL. Please adjust your behavior with immediate effect :-) Miner2049er 21:47, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
In Wikipedia it's normal to try and work things out through WP:CONSENSUS rather than having rigid rules - see WP:FIVE. I'm sorry if you find my attitude 'offhand' but if you go round saying 'whatever' to people in the real world, I'm sure you'll find people will react negatively. If you ask people nicely instead, you'll get a much better reaction. If my attitude is not to your liking - well tough. I was polite to you, I tried to be helpful and you were just rude in return. If you'd like to apologise and strike out your comment above, then we can start over. To answer your other question, try looking at WP:TRAIL and its associated talk page if you want to discuss the railway line templates and their implementation. DrFrench 22:06, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
It is clearly "your" page ... so I shall cease making any further edits to it. Miner2049er 18:41, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Whatever. To be honest I have no idea what you are going on about. I haven't made an edit to the Northern City Line page for over a week, whereas you have made four edits to it in that time. That's hardly page ownership. Anyway, it seems you've thrown your toys out of your pram just because a couple of people have made polite and helpful suggestions to you. Oh well.... DrFrench 20:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing me about this article's speedy deletion nomination, maybe I should inform you though that all I did was creating a redirect on this article as I'm part of the Fashion WikiProject and we were simply enforcing the naming convention of disambiguated clothes brands' articles. I modified a good number of them and didn't really check the articles actually, not seeing this particular one was nothing more than advertising. Thanks for clearing the article, but I'm really not the creator of it, the notice wasn't really necessary. Thanks for your time. Thiste 01:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Civility, or otherwise

Hi DrFrench, with regard to your discussion above with User:Miner2049er your comment about "throwing toys out of the pram", while perhaps not unprovoked, was not appropriate. Please try and avoid doing such things: in this case you've contibuted to scaring away an editor who was making useful contributions (see this). --RFBailey 21:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair doos, but do bear in mind my 'throwing the toys out of a pram comment' was made after he posted his 'quit' notice - and was my comment on the quit notice, not a cause of it. I am at a loss to understand why he has acted as he did. For example, I posted an explanation on his talk page (see here) as to why I reverted one of his changes. I did that as I was trying to be friendly and willing to discuss the matter, as I did on my talk page here. Instead I received rather aggressive and sarcastic responses. Yes, my comment is perhaps regrettable (being said in the heat of the moment) - but was a result of (and not the cause of) his decision to quit. As far as I can see, no-one has been nasty to him - only constructive and helpful suggestions were made. (I've struck out the comment above, which I understand is the correct etiquette? As in not trying to hide the fact I said it by deleting it, but withdrawing the comment). DrFrench 22:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
OK, but my feeling (even yesterday, before he quit) was that the whole discussion above didn't help. That said, he does seem to have been rather paranoid and defensive. Don't worry about it. --RFBailey 22:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Question

Hi there - just a quick question re: User:Davesmith33. For some reason he is on my watch list, and since he's been unblocked I can't say enough about how terrible I find his behaviour. I was curious at to whether there is any other action that could be taken against him (I am relatively new here) - i.e. permanent block or longer bans?

On a similar note, see any similarity between this and this? Dates don't overlap and the pages that the edits are made to are all top gear related (and even non-TG ones like this one have a definite TG slant on them). Just a thought.

You seem to be quite heavily involved in the Davesmith issue, but if you would care for any assistance is solving the problem, I would be more than happy to help. ...adam... (131.111.244.234 08:47, 26 April 2007 (UTC))

Guess it doesn't matter anymore - it's a real shame about the guy. ...adam... (131.111.8.104 12:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC))
Sorry - yes, by the time I got round to replying to you, he'd already 'erupted'. I guess I was 'heavily involved', albeit reluctantly - and it's always a bit nasty if someone gets blocked.
By the way, re your comments above, do you think that Davesmith33 and Suave12 are the same person?
Just for reference, there are things that can be done when people are acting like that; WP:AN if you need to bring something to an Admin's attention, WP:RFC if you want to get some 'community opinion' (and there are other dispute reolution options highlighted on that page). By the way, you might want to consider registering and getting your own username. You seem to be interested in building a better Wikipedia, registering makes it easier for other people to recognise you and you build your 'authority'. Happy editing! DrFrench 13:24, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Turnpike Lane

Hi there. My reasoning for adding the link to the borough page is: that education is considered a part of describing settlements (How to), and that education in London is organised by the boroughs, so it makes sense to list them under the boroughs. There has been a rash of editors recreating lists against each settlement, and adding this link is to forestall such duplication.

Your mileage may differ, and that's fine too. Perhaps you could expand on your reasoning - in which case, I might even change my mind. Cheers. Kbthompson 14:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

My reason for removing it is that it seemed overkill to do that for one topic. The infobox lists the borough and links to the borough's article - and the borough is the LEA. (In other parts of the country the County Council is the LEA, but either way each infobox will already show a clear link to the LEA). If you start adding that text for education, then you'll end up withother people doing similar links for health services, police. The article will simply be full of clutter that infoboxes were designed to help remove. (It's also relevant that TL is a street rather than a settlement...) DrFrench 14:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that, I appreciate the reasoning. I've only done it for some boroughs, normally where I see editors adding single schools - or entire groups. For some reason, Haringey was next on the radar. There certainly should be an education list in the borough page, I hope you'll agree. The main problem seems to occur when (say) Hackney Central (name changed to actually prevent the occurrence) is confused with the boro' and somebody knocks in a list that lacks geographic focus. In London, the LEA is not necessarily the borough, but it will certainly follow boro' boundaries.
I shall now think about the matter further. Funny, I always regard Turnpike Lane as a district, not just a tube station, or a street ... All the best Kbthompson 14:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Michael McDowell

Hi I notice you edited out my contribution to the infobox on the MMcD page. I contend that Mr. Mc Dowell ceased to be a TD along with 165 of the 166 members of Dail Eireann when the Dail was disolved on 29th April. Only one TD continued in office between this time and the election on 24th May, the Ceann Comhairle or Speaker who is elected automatically. The 15 members of the government (cabinet) continue in office until the election of their successors most likely on the first day of the new Dail 14th June. Therefore it is my contention that Mr. McDowell ceased to be a TD on 29th April and continues to be a Minister until some date in teh future most probably 14th June. I know this may sound petty but it is technically the way the system of government is continued in Ireland during an election. I hope you understand my position. Rigger30 14:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your comment. I appreciate your general agreement with my point. I was viewing it from the point of informing those who might consult wikipedia as an educatinal tool. However I also accept that it is necessary to have consistency on such issues. It is debatable which should win out consistency or technical correctness. I myself would tend to err towards correctness where possible however I accept that this could be difficult to achieve accross a large number of articles. Rigger30 17:13, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, regarding the timing of Mr McDowell's resignation from public life speech, it was actually before the official announcement that he had lost his seat. I think this is a relevant point. Furthermore, the version of events to which you have reverted is factually incorrect. User:Geraldkelly 23:49, 5 June 2007 (BST)

Hi. I don't want to revert because I don't feel strongly enough about. A one-off semi-'humourous' story that makes it to the newswires doesn't count as notability in my book. Who will remember it in a few week's time? In an article about the 'Facebook phenomenum', maybe it deserves a mention - but 1100 characters in this article? DrFrench 22:38, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Wikilinking of dates in Michael McDowell

Hi, would you please stop linking the months and years in Michael McDowell's article, it's a common mistake. Do not use WP:Consenus to justify your POV. In fact you are in breach of the 3RR rule. regards, Snappy56 08:52, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Firstly, although winning the coveted 'Lamest edit war ever' prize would be great, I'd rather not!
Secondly, as I'm rapidly losing interest in this, you can go ahead and link in irrelevant years + months, I don't care anymore.
Thirdly, the consensus is actually the way it is done at the moment. I edit a lot if biographical atricle (Irish politics) and only full dates are linked, years only or years + months are not. Check out Bertie Ahern to see what I mean. Changing this common approach for one article is a breach of the established consensus. This consensus has been established by many different editors or several years. As recent comer to Wikipedia (January 2007 it appears), you are coming in and dogmatically imposing your POV, this is not a good approach, Regards Snappy56 10:59, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Snappy56 I would remined you of WP:BITE, and WP:CIVIL. Your approach is also not good. Canterberry 11:07, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Doctor,

Yes it is obvious to you and me but not everyone in the world knows where Tynemouth is. This is why i put what town, what county and what country the station is.

Newcastle Central

I'd have to disgagree. It doesn't impose too much on the paragraph and such an important piece if information should come in that place. Such is the case with other stations such as Derby Midland and Newport. WL (talk) 15:45, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Essex Road

Sorry, I assumed the T+W stations were subsurface, I stand corrected. But are the trains actually the same loading gauge as NR trains? I thought they were narrower.

So that makes:

Twin large tube tunnels only:

  • Haymarket
  • Monument
  • Essex Road

Twin large tubes plus small tube train services:

  • Heathrow Central (I guess technically the same as Terminals 1,2,3, as they are interconnected by subways)
  • Heathrow Terminal 4 (T5 platforms are subsurface)
  • Old Street

Single large tube plus surface/subsurface platforms:

  • Lime Street
  • Moorfields
  • Liverpool Central

Are there any others that I missed out? I assume there aren't any in West Midlands/Manchester/Sheffield/Nottingham etc. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 11:43, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your response! Much appreciated! Would you know anything more about the Merseyrail stations? I'm just going by the text and pics here on Wiki. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 00:14, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Irish postcode CIO

I noticed your reverts on Republic of Ireland postal addresses and your note on Garydubh's talk page. Indeed we had a run in with him some months ago where he was previously pushing his "postcode" system on the Republic of Ireland postal addresses page trying to justify, firstly his system as being a post code system, even though An Post have not decided on any such nationwide system and the Irish government deferred plans for any offical postcode system, and secondly that his system is a true post code system when it is in fact a gps based building locator that may or may not be used by any non-postal authority as a delivery assistant. His coi is admitted but he insists on calling his system a post code system. Besides, the new url www.irishpostcodes.ie he now gives , is a beta, so is still not a commercial product. Have a look at the Republic of Ireland postal addresses history as well as the deleted postd from his own talk page especially this, this and the history of this anon IP user which Gary admits was his work too. Cheers (I reply where I post; so I'm watching here for a while) ww2censor (talk) 15:09, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Initially I was simply going to revert what looked like WP:LINKSPAM, but when I glanced at his contribution log it looked like a clear case of WP:COI to me - with some aggressive POV-pushing. I added the COI warning to ensure that there's no doubt he's been given fair warning. I'm also concerned by some of his posts on Talk:Republic of Ireland postal addresses, specifically this and this which are not discussion points, merely linkspam. Do you know if this issue has ever been raised at the COI noticeboard? I'm going to raise the 'talk page spam' issue there to see what the consensus is about removing posts from a talk page. DrFrench (talk) 19:14, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
This issue has not been brough to the COI noticeboard but I see you have done so already. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 03:59, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

DRFrench - why have you removed my input here - are you and Mr Censor the only ones allowed to contribute??? GaryDubh--86.41.143.79 (talk) 18:36, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

DrFrench - please return my comprehensive response here or state where it has been moved to and your justification (Hyperlinks Allowed)--Garydubh (talk) 18:43, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I reverted your post as it wasn't 'input', it was merely a rant that has no place on my talk page. DrFrench (talk) 18:47, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I am sure in your rules you will note that I have the right of reply - --Garydubh (talk) 18:52, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Wrexham and Shropshire Route Diagram

In regard to the W&S route map, I called it a 'line' as I thought it most appropriate. What do you suggest I call it? I know it isn't a proper 'line' but it is an interesting route and I think it deserves a route diagram. What do you think?Mpvide65 (talk) 23:08, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate your comments but different articles such as the Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury Line only concentrate on their one area. The W&S diagram at least puts all the info from individual lines onto one route diagram, which I think is useful.Mpvide65 (talk) 23:27, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

I kind of get your drift. How about I create a link from the W&S Page to the route diagram template page, so that people can view it if they're interested. I'll then restore the old map.Mpvide65 (talk) 23:42, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I suppose now people who want to look at it only have to click a link. I only hope people do not delete it. I can't think of anything to add to its page to make it more notable.Mpvide65 (talk) 23:51, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
I've just added a two links, one in route and one in see also. Thanks for all your time.Mpvide65 (talk) 23:59, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

FWIW, I totally agree about the naming of the CTRL (legally and formally, it still it). There was a long-term wrangling on CTRL and the wording eventually worked out was "High Speed 1 (HS1), known as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) during construction". I changed the footnote on the KX article to match, to avoid anyone else altering it further and in a less controlled way. The wording would have matched CTRL article opening line and been "undisputable"! —Sladen (talk) 10:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Emma368 at it again

Emma368 has found some fuel for the Top Gear dispute. He/she's criticized us for not being neutral and has even tagged the article to be nominated for it's neutrality. Just thought I'd let you know. Looneyman (talk) 15:44, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

I just came over here to add a comment to that effect. This has to stop. I'm not at all familiar with controversy management beyond the very basics (i.e. 3RR, etc.), but what can be done to stop this person? If his/her name is a sockpuppet, perhaps it should be reported. I read back over his/her history and that of Davesmith, and it seems abundantly obvious they are one and the same person. --Drmargi (talk) 17:47, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Template:Fenerbahçe SK squad

In Turkey Colin Kazim-Richards is known as Kazim Kazim and therefore he should be listed as such on the template. Skitzo (talk) 21:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

If you check the Turkish national team article he is listed as Kâzım Kâzım on that also, seeing how he represents Turkey and is therefore considered Turkish he should be listed in the Turkish manner, until such time as he leaves the club. Skitzo (talk) 21:40, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Its not that big a deal to me and I'm happy to accept your view point, I just thought since he was a Turkish national and currently playing there then we should use their version. but like I said I'm not really all that concerned so I'll leave it as is. Skitzo (talk) 22:01, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

phil taylor

If you look at Pele's page and Roger Federer's page on this site both say that they are regarded as the best ever in their sport in the first paragraph at the time. There really is no reason why we can't have the same on Phil Taylor's page, anyone with any sense knows that Phil is the greatest player ever and it should be there stating that he is thought my most to be the best ever. Please explain to me why it's on Pele's page and Roger Federer's page and not Phil Taylor's ?????

Why can't anyone answer me on the above question??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 21:53, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Probably because you say things like "anyone with any sense knows Phil is the greatest". This is an encyclopaedia not a fan site. Anyway, I've no idea why you're dragging me into it again after five months. DrFrench (talk) 19:17, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

The point is that if there is anyone current alive sportsperson that deserves the best ever tag then it's Phil Taylor, even you can't argue with that. And yet you won't let me put it into his profile when it's on the profiles of other sportspersons.

Why not? Just answer me why not? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 19:52, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm not after a fanboy type statement just a simple "is regarded as the greatest player of all time by many." or such like. whats so wrong with that? (Davo) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 19:54, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

If you really can't understand why that has no place in an encyclopaedia, then you really don't understand what Wikipeia is about. Read WP:VERIFY and (specifically) WP:WEASEL for starters. Oh and if you must post here, please remember to sign your posts using ~~~~. DrFrench (talk) 20:54, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

So why is it on other peoples profiles and not allowed on Taylor's??? That is all I ask? (DAVO ) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 20:58, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Did you actually read anything I wrote above? DrFrench (talk) 21:01, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes I did, But it doesn't answer my question. It's on others so why can't it be put on properly with links on Taylors. Can't you answer that? Or do you just have something against Phil Taylor? I don't get it. Whats the reason why it's allowed on other but not Taylor's? (DAVO) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 21:04, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

1. WP:WEASEL gives you all the information you need to answer your own question. Go on, have another read of it and see if you can work it out. 2. I have nothing against Phil Taylor. In fact I really don't give a flying f**k about him either way - but I do care about the integrity of Wikipedia. 3. Why can't you manage to sign your posts using ~~~~ it's really not that hard and there's a reminder at the top of the page everytime you add a comment. DrFrench (talk) 21:13, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps you should go and check those other profiles and edit them and tell them that no one is allowed to say that someone is regarded as the best in their field, because thats what people are doing on others profiles. (DAVO) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 21:15, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

"integrity of Wikipedia" - double standards more like. Whats allowed and not checked or sorted on other profiles is nipped in the bud straight away on others. When both are saying the same thing. For ages it said on here that Clint Eastwood was a vegan with tons of links and everything backed up, yet an interview with him the other day revealed that he wasn't and not only that, he didn't actually know what a vegan was!! And yet stuff like this about someone like Phil Taylor is no allowed. Makes this site look silly if you ask me.

And you still can't answer the question! (DAVO) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 21:19, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm not your slave. Why should I answer your question when you can't bothered learn and can't even be bothered sign your posts? But seeing as you're a bit hard of understandng, let's see if you can spot the difference...
1. Some tennis critics, legendary players, and current players consider Federer to be among the greatest players in the modern era history of this sport. Here are some verifiable references to those authoritative sources so you can check them yourself and make up your own mind.
2. Davo says that Taylor is the bestest darts player in the world ever. Anyone who disagrees is stupid. And smells of wee.
Now I'll give you a little clue... one of those is good and allowed on Wikipedia and one of those is bad and not allowed on Wikipedia. Can you tell which is which? I'll give you another clue, at the top of the WP:WEASEL page that you didn't bother to read it says, "Avoid using phrases such as "some people say" without providing sources." DrFrench (talk) 21:35, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

My point has always been to do it the proper way, use links and so forth for Taylor. Not just me saying it. But you don't seem interested in that, and that was all I was trying to do in the first place but I was shot down. Just because I am not an expert at using this site. I think the same thing thats on Fededer's page can be put on Taylor's page. What is wrong with that? I tried to get the ball rolling but was shot down. I wanted to provide sources and make it proper with links and sources and whatever it needs. I don't know how to do it properly, I find this site hard to us, forgive me for being stupid and not being able to understand how to use it but I struggle to understand this site.

I think my point is pretty valid. As I said maybe you or someone in the know could put it up on Taylor's page. What is wrong with that?

I'm not here for an argument or to be insulted. (DAVO) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.55.96 (talk) 22:01, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

What is wrong with it is the way you have gone about it. If you go and find the sources, then you can ask for help in adding them to the page - someone will help you out if you ask nicely. But you can't expect anyone else to go and find the sources for you! So far you've acted like a stroppy toddler ("It's not fair, Federer's article says it why can't Taylor's?") that's not going to persuade anyone to go out of their way to help you. And you still can't manage to type ~~~~ at the end of your comments... how hard is that???? DrFrench (talk) 22:25, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Feet and inches on Virgin train article

I agree! But I only changed it to get rid of the horrible numbers that were in the infobox 5 x 106 etc.

To complete the picture (no pun intended), the image of the Super Voyager was a copy vio and was deleted! I just though the new livery needed to be represented on the page. Will look out for another image.

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Hi, I don't believe that you are correct that we have to cite conflicting sources when two are clearly more reliable otherwise we would have conflicting facts listed all over the place which is not the case- the bfi entry has been checked against the GRO index and the GRO are the people who issue certificates so I really think there is no longer any doubt on this issue. Dates

I see you reverted my edits to Kevin Keegan. The automatic linking of dates is now deprecated - see Wikipedia:Date#Date_autoformatting for the reasons. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 19:59, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I note what you say, but the link you give doesn't say that the dates should NOT be de-linked, but that they don't HAVE to be. The Keegan article has dates in at least three different formats, so for non-registered users the article is rather muddled. (Turn off your date preferences and you'll see what I mean.) I can't see any reason for keeping the date links, nor why you feel the need to revert my edits on some point of principal. What does your reversion do to improve the content of Wikipedia? Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 21:26, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

S/S edits

It is obvious you are opinionated here.

I'm not here to edit war, thus why I have left out the perfectly good uncited information on the transport part, which is similar in the way the paris article was on the link WPnot you gave on the history page of the South Shields article, though be it the Paris article is cited.

I have no problem with anyone taking down uncited stuff, knowing that this encourages cited editing.

But with regards to the Rugby bit, it is cited. And you have no right to dictate to anyone what is put in.

It is also to small for an article and no doubt someone with a POV like yours would put it up for deletion. So as it is it stays in the South Shields article as a description were it belongs since it is from S/Shields.

I honestly do not believe for one second you want every wiki article topic to be one sentence without reference.

Would you read a knowledge base that bland as one sentence?

So to me it is obvious you are just being disruptive and trying to infringe the sucess of the article in the wiki project. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.97.68.63 (talk) 21:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Your edits to South Shields

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on South Shields. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution.

Courts of (the Republic of) Ireland

You are possibly already aware but the anon IP jumping editor(s) is changing a series of articles in recent days by diluting "Republic of Ireland" to "Ireland" - sometimes by just pipe linking.

I have reverted most of there changes, but whilst I respect WP:3RR, that anon IP jumping editor does not. So if your interested in becoming active in the wider reversion of what is essentially vandalism by the anon IP jumping editor please feel free.

An article you created maybe deleted soon: Tools which can help you

The article you created, Top_Gear_Races maybe deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster your respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved. This is because deletion debates only stay open for a few days, and the first comments are usually the most important.

There are several tools and other editors who can help you keep the page from being deleted forever:

  1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
  3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.
  4. You can merge the article into a larger or better established article on the same topic.

As you have been previously involved in discussions regarding the name of the above mentioned article, I thought you may be interested to know there has been a request made to move and rename the article. If you'd like to get involved, please see here for the discussion which led to the request and here for the requested move poll. Regards, Dbam Talk/Contributions 21:15, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

T&W Metro Fare Anomolies

I see you added this information on many Metro station pages, but there isn't really much explanation of it, just a table. Also, I'm not sure (and unsure how to check) if this information is still accurate. What are your views on all of this? beeblebrox (talk) 21:31, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Chiltern Railways

That's what I thought when I first reverted it here. I was then pressurised into re-adding it by Tris2000 which I then did, against my better judgement, after a re-write. To be honest, I though it had a little merit, but looking back, I think it's best that the section be removed. Cheers. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 23:23, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

TV infoboxes

Hi you just beat me to the infobox. I was just doing it in my sandbox. one point about the picture format. Surely this should be Filmed 16:9 widescreen for this is what people would need to know. When shown in other countries it will use whatever system the broadcaster uses ie: secam, ntsc. Some programs we get here in Britain are filmed 16:9 but shown 4:3 pan and scan. this will probably happen somewhere in the world REVUpminster (talk) 21:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

The article does have an inline citation that references the Abbey Flyer. It is reference [2].
If you are an example of a "good" wikipedian then you need to improve. Seriously, if you cannot take the time to read an article properly and understand it, then you really shouldn't be editing. A "good" editor on Wikipedia would understand this without having to quote various rules and guidelines. It is an inherent quality. I think you are the one that needs to reappraise why you are editing on Wikipedia. As to be quite honest, I think that you are wasting your time and that of other editors. I can't help but notice you are interested in editing this article, maybe you could help by updating the Historical Railways infobox here to include the Severn Valley Railway as in the stations at Berrington, Cound and Cressage. As it stands i am not too well versed with the type of infobox that has been used, thank you. CrossHouses (talk) 22:33, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Minor update to this request. I have attempted to add this information however it could do with a bit of work to integrate it with the other infoboxes. CrossHouses (talk) 22:45, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Marje proops.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Marje proops.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:52, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello DrFrench. Sorry to revert your recent edit at this article. But the subject is specifically about discrimination within the U.S. legal system, and how American legal theory has evolved to address those issues. If there were a discussion, or an additional section, about a similar situation in a country outside the United States (if there is a parallel), it would probably be just a compare and contrast. Not an instance of the application of U.S. Constitutional protections. But if you have a view about how we might rightly globalize this article, and improve it, please forge ahead with your suggestions. Regards! Gulbenk (talk) 14:14, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 21:31, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

RonBot (talk) 17:14, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Weekend World, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Current affairs (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:40, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
