Nicknames

Your well-intentioned changes of Joseph P. Schmoe into Joseph P. "Joe" Schmoe in biographical article intros go against the Manual of Style, particularly the page on biographies. Thanks for wanting to help — there are certainly plenty of ways and places around here where you can be of assistance. Improper move of John Forbes Nash, Jr. to John Nash (Mathematician)

Hi Dr. Whiskers, please don't go around moving pages to new titles until you are more familiar with Wikipedia and its well-established procedures. It is inappropriate to move longstanding articles to new titles on a whim, as you did with this one. Especially when your new title is incorrect and does not follow the Wikipedia:Naming conventions, in that "Mathematician" should not be capitalized. Regardless of that, there appears to be no good reason to move this article to a new title, and so I have reverted your move.

If you wish to move this article (or any other pre-existing articles), then please raise and discuss the issue on the article's talk page first, prior to making any further unilateral moves. If after suitable discussion there is a consensus for a move, then the article may be moved to a new title. Thanks for your copperation. --Seattle Skier (talk) 06:03, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't have a problem with a newbie moving an article, but the title to which it was moved "John Nash (Mathematician)" had a capital initial "M" in "mathematician", in disregard of WP:MOS, which requires lower case. Michael Hardy (talk) 19:40, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
