There is a vandal that is CONSTANTLY vandalizing our cients page, Shawn "Pettus" Brown. How can we block this vandal from making changes? Could you help protect this page for us for a period of time? Thank you. Kappa96 (talk) 02:27, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Your Edit and revert
[edit]{{helpme}} We have been trying to clean up the vandalism on our clients page, Shawn Pettus Brown. The information on the discussion page is not accurate and our client was acquitted of all the false cahrges. Can you please help us. Kappa96 (talk) 05:52, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Ahhh, your problem is that you need to read WP:EDITSUM! Now that I understand the issue, I've removed the post myself. When all of the content of a page disappears with no edit summary, alarm bells go off and people rush to undo that action! That's why it's always best to explain what you are doing in the edit summary, no matter how minor. Doulos Christos ♥ talk 11:20, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your assistance. It truly is appreciated. Kappa96 (talk) 00:01, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit]as can be seen i meant to type this: The Crime and the Glory of Commander Suzdal. Sadly i typed this: the crime and the glory of commander suzdal. This mistake would have took me all of 30 seconds to relieze and correct. However you decided to leave me a message instead. For future reference why dont you spend more time on trying to fix articles then bug editors. A simply internet search would have found my error and you could have corrected it. instead you went with a revert. THIS IS NOT APPRECIATED ONE BIT BY ANYONE EVER!! Let me ask you something: how could you possible know every single sci-fi story ever written!? the answer is: you cant. If you know even the slightest amount of knowledge about this field you wouldnt have reverted my edit. obviously you spent all of 1 second looking at what i did and then reverting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.228.169.184 (talk) 01:02, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Your request for rollback
[edit]After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback can be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback may be removed at any time.
If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! A recent edit.
[edit]Hi, you made this edit which actually reverted a reversion of vandalism (thus restoring the vandalism). I reverted your edit using Twinkle, but I wanted to let you know that I'm pretty sure you didn't intend to vandalize that page and simply got confused in the chain of reverts (as I have done many times myself). In any event, your edit history shows a strong record of fighting vandalism, so thanks and keep up the good work. --Loonymonkey (talk) 03:28, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Edits
[edit]Please stop reverting my edits at Bandit (disambiguation) and tagging me as a vandal. These have all been good faith edits to move the page, as discussed on the discussion page, to have a separate article for the television series. The automated revisions can be incredibly frustrating as we are all working to improve this project.--Stadler981 (talk) 01:58, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- I figured out why that was happening - because you were inappropriately doing a cut-and-paste move. I asked at WP:AN that someone fix the pages that are messed up now and maybe they can explain why what you are doing is incorrect. Doulos Christos ♥ talk 02:01, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying, though I would be remiss to not point out that for a novice user to be frustrated, confused, labeled as a vandal, and fairly insulted for attempting good faith edits in a way that was the prior standard, is probably not the best for a project hoping to draw help from everyone. Obviously that change was not up to you, but please be understanding and perhaps less immediately condemning and belittling to people who are trying to help.--Stadler981 (talk) 02:17, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Robert Hanssen
[edit]I understand your general suspicion of vandalism in the case of the Hanssen article, however, I question what constitutes the informational value of Hanssen's sexual preferences. Whether or not he shared sex video tapes or had contacts with prostitutes does not represent an informational value. On which ground would you leave this information there, then? A biography should not the place where ALL information about the respective person are gathered - but if so, why not include his eye color and hair color? Simply because the information about particular aspects of a person's life is there, i.e. available, and accessible somewhere (and justifiable through references), does not state anything about the informational value. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.100.126.154 (talk) 22:16, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Templates
[edit]Howdy! One of the downsides of using templates is that it's often really obvious that you're just using a template. For example, User:75.48.124.175 vandalized the Robert Gates article, and it's very very obvious that he didn't consider 'what the crap' to be a constructive edit, but your templated warning suggests that might have been possible. A thought, consider trading a fancy, feature rich warning that screams 'I am a robot!' for a short, human bit of text. It might connect with the person at the other end of the keyboard better, and might be the little thing that turns someone into a productive editor. - CHAIRBOY (☎) 15:27, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- I can see your point but, if I were to be more firm, someone would surely appear here saying I was being too firm. My hope is that the templates have been deemed moderate enough to appease everyone. Doulos Christos ♥ talk 15:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- If we were writing automatic revert bots that didn't involve human judgment, then I would agree with you, but we're doing the work we do here specifically because we _aren't_ bots. If you have to use templates (and while personally, I'm not a big fan, I think they do more harm than help) would it be possible to have more than one so you can use one that's appropriate to the situation? Either way, best regards - CHAIRBOY (☎) 15:37, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- I totally see what you are saying. I also have an extensive watchlist of commonly-vandalized pages (thousands actually) and am still seeing far too much vandalism escaping the first wave of recent change patrollers. The bots and the bot-like humans are simply not doing a good enough job. Being careful about what I say to someone who says "Tyler is gay" or "this is crap" is going to cause the holes in that first wave to open further. Maybe that's just my perception but it is what it is. If the anti-vandalism bots get better - or if some flagged revisions methodology is properly implemented - maybe I will start to agree with you. Regardless, I hope your vision of quickly reforming blatant vandals can be a reality someday. Doulos Christos ♥ talk 15:45, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Comment about other user's removal of deletion tags
[edit]Just so you know, if someone else removes a tag from an article and also changed the content of the article, you should manually readd the tag and don't revert the added content as well. Also, if the user blanks a page they created after a speedy tag was added, you should just add

From what I understand, "Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia". I see your point but consider this. Who is most likely to view an article about the Friends School of Baltimore? A person with at least some knowledge of the school. If this person was looking for more information about the school one of the people they would need to know about would be David Goldman. And also consider that it means a lot more to us to have it up there than it means to you to not have it up there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.234.183.31 (talk) 02:26, 25 February 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.234.183.31 (talk)
Userpage warnings being removed by you
[edit]I'm guessing this is some sort of WP:HG error ... but I've only noticed it happening from your edits so far (granted, I'm not looking at all other edits, it's just yours that caught my attention so far). It doesn't happen all the time, so I'm not sure what is triggering this ... but the result is that it appears the user has received fewer warnings than they have actually been given.
When applying warnings to user pages, I noticed that your edits sometimes remove other existing warnings while at the same time applying your warning. Here are a handful of examples that I've noticed over the last few days: [2], [3], and [4].
Any idea what's going on here? --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 23:58, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, that is strange. The only pattern I see is that the removed warnings are for the same page as the one I am warning about. Maybe Huggle has a feature where it combines multiple warnings for the same page? I'll take a look around the feature list. Otherwise, I'd mention these at WP:HG. I just restored to help people understand what the article about Hosur contains and is purely misleading because of some mad admins at wiki. I here by request you to restore the contents that I posted 59.92.40.234 (talk) 03:21, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have given edit summery. If you think still its not appropriate, just remove it 59.92.40.234 (talk) 03:30, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- I am thoroughly confused. Perhaps you consult someone at WP:ANI. All I see is huge amounts of text being added and removed from that talk page and have no idea why. Doulos Christos ♥ talk 03:40, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- As advised by you, I have posted my request for discussion Hosuronline (talk) 03:49, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- I appealed, but http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:X! camein and blocked saying its solved. Please help. I also request you to consider reinstating the user account 'Asprakash'59.92.32.26 (talk) 05:43, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I see you've already gotten a few of these, but here's another one anyway -- because you're always beating me to the punch on reverting vandalism on Huggle! Matt (talk) 20:35, 2 March 2009 (UTC) |

Kompl5x muss eben Kaggen!
[edit]Greetings! Thank you for helping revert some of the edits made by Kompl5x muss eben Kaggen! (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). I've also blocked 3ompl5x stinkt wie Jauche! (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) for making the same type edits. Is this an editing pattern you've seen before? Right now, I've tagged Kompl5x... as the sockpuppeteer, but I've got a hunch that's not the first account this particular user has used. —C.Fred (talk) 15:56, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, I can't say I've ever seen that before. Vandals come in all shapes and languages I suppose. :) Doulos Christos ♥ talk 15:59, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Mea culpa. While trying to revert several instances of rapid-fire unhelpful edits, both the bot and I seem to have kept some material in that definitely needed to be removed. Many thanks for your fast thinking and excellent editing, and I'm sorry for giving you some extra grunt work to do. --Ericdn (talk) 16:51, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Oh that's perfectly alright! I'm sure I do the same on numerous occasions. Sometimes the goofiness comes faster than we can keep up... :) Doulos Christos ♥ talk 16:52, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I completely agree. In this case, the editor was making unproductive changes faster than I could keep up with them. To be honest, I was using the bot's most recent edit as my "go back to" point, but I failed to notice that the bot's edit also contained some material that should have been removed. If this were a long article, I might be able to get away with saying "I just missed it", but, in this case, the article is so short, and I should have noticed it. Once again, thanks for helping out! --Ericdn (talk) 16:56, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
