Question from Yash.k23 (10:19, 29 August 2022)
I just need to understand why my content, which i posted around 2 months back. Kindly help me to know, if I need to do any changes.
Thanks --Yash.k23 (talk) 10:19, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
- Yash.k23 I need more information before I can help you. Since your only edit so far was to ask me this question, I am not sure what content you are talking about. Can you point me in the right direction? -- Dolotta (talk) 12:04, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
- I have posted content around a month back. At that point of time, it showed that to review and publish the content will take 90 days. But in between my content was deleted. So I am not sure why it was deleted. was there any feedback from review team for the same?
- Thanks Yash.k23 (talk) 06:15, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for following up, Yash.k23. Cryptic deleted it because it was obvious advertising. In many circumstances like this, it happens because it is hard for those who generally focus on marketing/PR to switch from marketing to encyclopedic content. While Cryptic might have extra insights, I would recommend looking at existing Wikipedia articles for corporations, focusing on the references and how the article is worded. I would also take a look at WP:COI to see if it applies to you. Happy editing! -- Dolotta (talk) 15:32, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- It read like a machine-translated brochure. "In 1987, Writer Corporation sorted to extend the need of the existing customer by launching Writer Information business that aimed to offer a plethora of digital solutions worldwide." was typical of the rest of the draft. —Cryptic 16:10, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yash.k23 I need more information before I can help you. Since your only edit so far was to ask me this question, I am not sure what content you are talking about. Can you point me in the right direction? -- Dolotta (talk) 12:04, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. If you wish to help out at AFC, enable AFCH by navigating to Preferences → Gadgets and checking the "Yet Another AfC Helper Script" box.
- Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.
- A modification to the deletion RfC remedy in the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been made to reaffirm the independence of the RfC and allow the moderators to split the RfC in two.
- The second phase of the 2021-22 Discretionary Sanctions Review closes 3 October.
- An administrator's account was recently compromised. Administrators are encouraged to check that their passwords are secure, and reminded that ArbCom reserves the right to not restore adminship in cases of poor account security. You can also use two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra level of security.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections open 2 October and close 8 October.

- You can add yourself to the centralised page listing time zones of administrators.
- Tech tip: Wikimarkup in a block summary is parsed in the notice that the blockee sees. You can use templates with custom options to specify situations like
{{rangeblock|create=yes}}
or{{uw-ublock|contains profanity}}
.
Question from SternStrategy (19:15, 1 November 2022)
Hi there! When will we be eligible to create our own wikipedia page post? --SternStrategy (talk) 19:15, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Greetings, SternStrategy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Your account was created at least 4 days ago and has 10 edits, so you have the technical ability to create an article. However, I would not create an article for which you have a conflict of interest. I wouldn't create an article titled Dolotta for example. Happy editing ! -- Dolotta (talk) 21:30, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Hi Dolotta! On behalf of the Birthday Committee, I'd like to wish you a very happy birthday! Enjoy this special day! CAPTAIN RAJU(T) 07:19, 26 November 2022 (UTC) |
ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:12, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.

- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.

Sherry in Wood County
This article is currently confounded between the town and the unincorporated community. I found the town of Sherry website and don't really know how to proceed. Would it be OK to just make the article for the town? Not every unincorp. comm. has its own article, but for this one there is a lot of informtion that could be added. Have you noticed the geo coord for towns are denominated as regions while communities of any stripe are denominated as cities? The coordinates in this article are denominated as for a city. I am being trolled so I don't want to spend a lot of time on any edit. My Dupatryn's contracture has reduced me to hunt 'n peck. My mother attended UWEC when it was a Normal School. My parents married in secret because Mom was teaching. Tom (my nickname is Sam and Topeka Tom was taken) Topeka Sam (talk) 22:47, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Topeka Sam: The article on the community (Sherry (community), Wisconsin) was redirected to the town's article (Sherry, Wisconsin) after being merged three years ago. Considering the circumstances, I don't think undoing the merger is warranted. The community is a part of the town after all and, save for some relatively well known and sourced communities, most unincorporated communities can be included in their town's article with an appropriate redirect. That being said, the town's article can certainly be expanded and copy edited as appropriate. Dolotta (talk) 16:01, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

Question from Thosem (18:22, 25 July 2023)
I'm good now but I was slowed down by a new setting in Safari that hides IP addresses by default. Wikipedia blocked me because of that but I eventually figured it out by comparing with an older version of Safari. It could be a significant frustration for newbies like me. I rummaged for hours trying to appeal the block but there was no clue to the problem available in Wikipedia, so that might be worth putting a warning somewhere. --Thosem (talk) 18:22, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
