About the Ottmans and the Byzantines... my impression is that it is uncontroversial that the Ottomans saw themselves as the successors to the Byzantine/Roman Empire -- or have I got that wrong? They took over its territory and its capital, they appropriated Aghia Sophia etc. Did the Franks see them that way? Presumably not. Did Muscovy? -- no, they actually wanted the title of Third Rome themselves!
About procedure, when an article says something that appears reasonable (and relevant) and is supported by a solid reference to a serious source, we generally don't delete the content. At most, we might tag it as [dubious – discuss] or discuss it on the Talk page.
