Image copyright problem with Image:Asprilla1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Asprilla1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Image:Steve Howey.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Steve Howey.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok ☠ 17:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

{{fc|xxx}}
[edit]Hi Doberman - I note that you have amended many football articles to replace [[xxx F.C.|xxx]] with {{fc|xxx}}. Can I refer you to the recent comments made at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#fc which says that "All instances of {{fc}} should be subst'ed anyway". It seems to me that you are doing a lot of work replacing a direct link to a club article with a link via a template, which doesn't have any direct visual effect.
I also note that you are amending dates in infoboxes to show "2000–01" using "2000 &n dash; 01" rather than 2000-2001. I know the player template uses your style but just about everyone else appears to be using the latter; for what it's worth, my personal opinion is that using the full date looks far better, whereas the Lee Bowyer (for example) infobox now looks "ragged" with dates switching between 4 digit and 2 digit.
Just my thoughts at the end of a busy day. Best wishes Daemonic Kangaroo 17:16, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- It is not a new idea. The Template talk:Fc page has recommended the subst: usage for a long time. Changing to use the templates is a waste of time, as there are bots which sometimes go through and fix things back to the substituted format anyway. Neier 02:06, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:G94996eef61.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:G94996eef61.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. AfD Nomination: Ritchie Sutton
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem that Ritchie Sutton meets these criteria, an editor has started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.
Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ritchie Sutton. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.
Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, a neutral third party will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. Mattythewhite 18:10, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

0 template
[edit]Hi. On some of the articles you've been editing recently, I think you have been adding too many 0 templates to footballers infoboxes. I don't think each row needs two 0 templates, regardless of what the stats actually are. Thanks, Mattythewhite 20:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think at least that's how it's meant to be done. I'll give you a link to one of my archived talk pages, where I was informed of it. Hope it helps. Mattythewhite 21:12, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Football infobox standards
[edit]Hi, just to let you know about the Wikipedia Football Project Player Manual of Style, which includes an agreed standard for football player infoboxes. The word 'loan' should not appear in italics. Also, the endash (as opposed to the hyphen) is used between two years. WP:DASH has more info on this. Apologies if this all seems a bit pedantic, but the idea is to give a consistent look and feel to football player articles. Cheers and happy editing. --Jameboy 17:12, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:G37664nqxa6.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:G37664nqxa6.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:23, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Sam Linton
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Sam Linton, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Sam Linton seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Sam Linton, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Andy Clarke
[edit]Hi, and well done for cleaning up Andy Clarke's article. Thought you may want to know that year ranges such as football seasons are supposed to be separated with a long dash – ( which you can write – ) rather than a hyphen - . So next time you find an infobox in a mess, you could correct that as well if you wanted. It's also a good idea if you fill in the edit summary box, so people know what changes you've made. Just something like "tidied infobox" would do, if that's what you've done.
If you add a career total line to a player's appearances, it'd probably be a good idea if you only did it for players where all their appearances and goals are present. With Andy Clarke, his Barnet apps and goals aren't there, so putting a total is misleading.
Keep up the good work! cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:25, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Roy Aitken
[edit]Hi, I wondered what source you had for changing the year in which Roy Aitken joined Newcastle United from 1990 to 1989? According to the Scottish FA page cited in the article he joined in early 1990, and this article from The Times has the move due to be completed on 10 January 1990. Anyway, I'm changing it back, on the basis of the Times article. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:56, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
[edit]Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:F42316pph7b.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

Proposed deletion of John Martin (footballer born 1979)
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article John Martin (footballer born 1979), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Alex Dyer (footballer born 1989), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Alex Dyer (footballer born 1990). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:04, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Youngsters aren't on loan anymore
[edit]Template:Stoke City F.C. squad. Is this right?
I was wondering where you got your info from? Grocott played for Rangers yesterday and Thorley only recently went out to Burscough. What makes you think the 3 of them have suddenly returned?--EchetusXe (talk) 15:56, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yeh, Stokes website seems to ignore the youngsters for some reason, even reported Grocott as going to Stafford Rangers when he went to Alfreton Town (he later went to Rangers after failing to make the Town first team), numerous footie sites then reported it because they got their info off the site.
Only reason I care is because I was in Marcs class at school.--EchetusXe (talk) 16:23, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Names/nicknames
[edit]Hi there PHARAOH, VASCO here,
Regarding this article, Pedro Pelé, i noticed you reverted my edits, and re-instated his name as PEDRO PELÉ, which is an impossibility, because it's a name/nickname compound, therefore just PELÉ is more accurate.
I am Portuguese, judging from your user page you are British; let me tell you man, maybe that is how he is known in England, but i think it's a false lead introduced by Portuguese media, which have already wrongly named players in this fashion: Pedro Pauleta, Nuno Capucho, and it stuck in another countries (this case England).
However, after this explanation, if you revert it to PEDRO PELÉ again, since i respect your work and wish no edit wars, will leave it be. I would like to hear your views on this (and related) subject, though.
Cheers, have a nice week,

[edit]Hi there PHARAOH, VASCO again
Speaking of teamwork, i have a request man, am going really crazy over an article...Could you please check Roberto Solozábal, it's really mind-boggling: no-one edited after me (if you check edit history, you will see an anon IP, it's mine), it was fine after i left it, and now INFOBOX is all screwed up - I removed height format to see if it would fix, and the problem switched to birthdate...WOW! Am really at a loss here, could you help me? (don't forget to reinstate HEIGHT FORMAT please)
Ty very much in advance,
VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 05:23, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- WOW!! And also in Abelardo Fernández, same infobox woes, could you have a look here 2? After you fix it, please enlighten me, so that i won't have to bother again and take matters into my own hands. Thanks again.
