Citing Wikipedia on Wikipedia?

[edit]

{{help me}}The notice above warns that I did a "not accepted practice." Thanks for helping me learn how to do this better. I'm just not clear whether the error was using Wikipedia as a source, or was the error the way in which I cited it? Could someone please cite me chapter and verse in the MOS or where ever it is explained what exactly I did wrong so I can learn to be more acceptable. Thanks, Diltsgd (talk) 22:21, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)I assume you mean the CorenSearchBot warning? It says taht you copy-pasted stuff from another place, generall a copyright violation. But if you copied it from Wikipedia, that's not. But, per WP:RS, Wikipedia is not a reliable source.  fetchcomms 22:27, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The best way is to use inline citations, with the <ref> tags, which is explained at WP:REF as Mike gave you.  fetchcomms 22:30, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No I'm sure they meant the message in italics from User:BusterD above. Diltsgd, please read WP:PRIMARY as well as WP:REF. And to answer your question, yes the error was using Wikipedia as a source. -- œ 22:32, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats

Proposed deletion of Family History Research Wiki

[edit]

The article Family History Research Wiki has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't appear to meet the general notability guidelines. Little coverage online.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Largo Plazo (talk) 17:35, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
