Suicide
[edit]Please don't use trivialise suicide as you did with your last set of edits. In addition Wikipedia is not censored. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:51, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, please stop. Our style guideline is pretty clear that we should avoid euphemisms. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 23:47, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
What neither of you understands is that I am neither trivializing nor using euphemisms or censoring. I work in the suicide prevention community, and my changes reflect the accepted guidelines for discussing suicide in the media. The word "committed" is no longer accepted terminology (now replaced by "died by" or "died from" suicide). Additionally, graphic descriptions of suicide methods can be dangerous and lead to suicide contagion—especially with regard to the deaths of celebrities. Deseraestage (talk) 07:27, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
- Frankly it is censoring. I understand that there is a push on to cover up the word by using something else. And then in a few years somebody will be changing the new term to something else. And removing the cause on Wikipedia is an attempt to censor. If you think that saying committed suicide on Wikipedia is wrong then I suggest you start a centralised discussion about it. And just so it is clear I live in Nunavut which has an extremely high suicide rate and several family members have committed suicide.
