Parenting pages

[edit]

Hi Dekisugi,

I just wanted to clarify - the link you removed was for a not-for-profit charity, non-religiously affiliated site, which had information which may be of help to parents bringing up children. There is a wealth of research which explores how the transition to parenthood can affect couple relationships, I can share some of this with you if you would find this interesting.

Many thanks, Fi-fi-gi —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fi-fi-gi (talkcontribs) 13:24, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Frost

[edit]

Hi. Can you let me know why, when the author of Andrew Frost capitulated to the copyvio warning by removing the copyrighted material, you tagged it as vandalism and restored the article to its state of violation?—Largo Plazo (talk) 14:39, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CASP

[edit]

What led you to believe that the edit you revert at CASP (see diff) was vandalism? It may have not had a source immediately (which looks like it has now been added), but it certainly seems to have been a good faith edit. Cheers, Emw2012 (talk) 21:21, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar God 2001 and Blue Cheer

[edit]

I am having some difficulties with user Whistleinthewind, who created the Guitar God 2001 page, to which you had appended a speedy deletion tag which was equally speedily removed, it appears. This page relates to guitarist Randy Holden, who is also currently in a trademark dispute with Dickie Peterson over ownership of the Blue Cheer band name--a band Holden was associated with for a short time in 1969-1970. I have tried to reference this trademark dispute on two occasions now on the Blue Cheer page and had it removed twice. The first removal was by another user, for reasons of tone as well as disputed content. I have communicated via the talk page of both Whistleinthewind and the other "remover", but received no response. I suspect that both are either Randy Holden or a close associate and that for some reason this individual believes that referenced commentary that casts doubt on some of his actions should not see the light of Wikipedia day. If you and/or some of your fellow editors have a moment, I would appreciate it if you could review my "Blue Cheer" problem and suggest a course of action. What I appear to be facing is a form of suppression of facts, unless I am being overly sensitive here.

Many thanks in advance.

Dreadarthur (talk) 02:17, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I note that the Blue Cheer trademark dispute is now back on the page, courtesy of your efforts and caution to Whistleinthewind. Many thanks. It very much appeared to be an attempt to suppress referenced facts; I'm very glad you were able to address this.

Rollback/vandalism

[edit]

Yo Dekisugi. While I agree that this edit was problematic, it most certainly was not vandalism – it was the editors first edit to the articlespace and included a reference. It's usually a bad idea to call edits vandalism unless it's blatant. Reverting an editor without an edit summary explanation is not a very friendly way to welcome an editor to the project. I realise you are trying to protect the integrity of the encyclopaedia, but a little extra consideration for noobs wouldn't go astray. Sincerely, the skomorokh 12:44, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Portal/Astrology Edit

[edit]

Dear Dekisugi, As you have considered my edit to Astrology Portal in appropriate, I would like to ask where. Are there governments and companies advertising for Astrologers; can Astrology be considered a religion (as I consider it mine). Is it politically wrong in stating that governments aren't advertising it in there criteria for Newstart people which at the time of documentation CES which was taken over by Centrelink in Australia, that government dept's won't consider a person is looking for work if they are Astrologers, or that they generally thought astrologers were too bright and wouldn't need there assistance in finding work, is it politically wrong in giving data that state there is no job criteria or curriculum for astrologers under college, TAFE, Universities, is advertised in the western world. Or wrong to state that astrologers are looking into environment issues ref ANSTO - ref D. Pilon Smith.

I would like to re-submit my article, and I would like to know where it needs to be changed, or should I have put it on it's own page. I have confirmation of everything I wrote, I would like to know if I just didn't give enough references or phrase it correctly. Thank you, Diane5000 (talk) 07:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also have documentation for everything I wrote, could you please reconsider it being admitted. Diane5000 (talk) 07:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Philip Dobson

[edit]

I agreed with your speedy tag on Dr Philip Dobson, but I see it got rejected on the grounds that he's a magistrate. I've put it up for AfD instead, since I don't agree that's sufficient notability. Eve Hall (talk) 13:05, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi; just in case you were in mind to revert his edits again, please maybe find a more diplomatic thing to refer to them as than "vandalism", although I do appreciate he's deleting content and shouldn't be, I'm going to refer his article/edits to WP:Canada and WP:NorthAmNative discussion boards; thing is he is quite probably who he says he is and is something very much like a head of state and also cultural leader of the Haida people; it's a a delicate matter; better to add fact and COI templates all over the material, I think, than to simply reverse them; article issues can include "resume" as well as "coi" and "wikify" or whatever MOS-type switch for that template is. Informative notices on WP:MOS and WP:COI have been more or less put on his talkpage, apparently he doesn't care about that (native chiefs can be kind of dismissive towards what non-natives think/want). Point is if he can be brought around to Wiki standards of behaviour, he has the potential to be a valuable contributor on a LOT of articles, so calling his additions "vandalism" is not gonna help his attitude, such as it is already.Skookum1 (talk) 13:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further on Blue Cheer and Trademark Dispute

[edit]

I went to the page and now see that there is much editorial commentary on the dispute by an identified contributor: Randy Pratt. None of his comments are referenced and some of them appear to be slanderous. Having said this, I am wondering if there is a way for you to discuss with him "off page" how to get some of this up on the Blue Cheer page in an acceptable manner, assuming that is even possible. It is through your effort that the fact of the trademark dispute is now left on the page, unchallenged, as should be the case. The issue now is to what extent, if at all, opinions about this dispute could be included on the page.

Many thanks again for your care and concern throughout.

Dreadarthur (talk) 15:59, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have left some comments at Whistleinthewind, hoping that he will have some cited or citable comments available. Leaving what he has put on the Blue Cheer page, without references, sets a bad precedent, in my view.

Dreadarthur (talk) 15:39, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi,

The reason for this post is that I would like some help, before I re-post my article as I have noticed that I will be banned if I submit the article again which appears to be an advertisement.

I have read the factors in getting tagged as an advertisment post, so I had re-write the article to include angle of achievements and history of the company rather than talking about the site.

So it would be very helpful if you could tell us which parts are getting my post flagged up as being an advertisement.

As I want to submit the page again, but do not want to get banned, so I would like to clarify the above points first with you.

Thank you.

Interculturalism

[edit]

Not wanting to appear rude, but when you deleted the entire section of External Links because "you don't really need these," how were you able to determine that no one would really need them?

This article is a stub, and in part that's because the content treats interculturalism as just a philosophy, when in fact it's also a growing professional field with thousands of practitioners, some in academia, some working within large corporations, and others working in the nonprofit sector.

My organization (whose link you deleted) has for 33 years put on a month-long series of workshops for professionals in the field. The Intercultural Press (whose link you also deleted) has an entire catalog of titles on the topic of interculturalism. Why wouldn't people wanting to know about interculturalism want this information? How else would they get it? Isn't a web-based encyclopedia useful because it lets you link information to other information?

External link

External links should serve as links to external contents that explain more about the subject of an article where the contents cannot be included here in Wikipedia. A copyright material is one good example of an external link. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, where contents matter, rather than links. That's why Wikipedia is not a catalogue or a directory of links (see WP:NOT). What you inserted in the page is not appropriate per WP:EL guideline. The link goes not to explain directly to the subject, but to another directory site about the subject's works. For this particular guideline, see WP:ELNO item number 13. Hope that helps you understand. Dekisugi (talk) 18:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi
I've removed the {{db-nonsense}} tag from Best basketball player in the world, since it no way only contained completely and irredeemably confused text or random gibberish per WP:CSD#G1. WP:CSD#A7 might apply, since it lacks a credible indication of significance, but it's not patent nonsense.
Thanks, Amalthea 22:31, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Similarily, neither are G.m.c. (A gang or something without indication of importance, an A7) nor Warmcut (WP:MADEUP). I hope you don't mind that I looked at some more of your CSD tags now, but it's very important to make those by the book, it's one of the BITEiest areas we have here on Wikipedia, and if we don't follow process here it's even more confusing for new editors.
Cheers, Amalthea 22:39, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All the articles that I tagged speedy are not for biting newcomers. They all fall into WP:CSD. After all, all articles you mentioned in my talk page were deleted with speedy deletion criteria. So what's so fuss about tagging it? Dekisugi (talk) 09:08, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, two of the three were deleted as A7s, and the other one is going to be deleted in a couple of days, too. Nonetheless, it's important to make sure to tag them correctly for a number of reasons:
  • The messages you left on the author's pages now claim that they had uploaded "unsalvageably incoherent" text, which doesn't help them with their next article: if they knew what the actual problem with the article was then they might just start a useful one the next time.
  • The criteria are very narrowly defined for a reason, and since admins aren't always double checking them throughly enough it's important that taggers tag them correctly right away
Lastly, I of course appreciate that you do new page patrol! I'm only asking you to try to get them right, and if you find an article that you are convinced should be deleted, but there is no SD criteria that fits, then just PROD it.
Cheers, Amalthea 20:27, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's up to you (admins) to decide to reject or to accept CSD. I just request ones. Dekisugi (talk) 21:54, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an admin. With CSDs it's not that much about deleting or rejecting since the rules are really pretty clear cut. It's just easier for all people involved if they are tagged correctly right away, and it's not hard to do so.
Again, thanks for your work, and Cheers, Amalthea 22:11, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checkmarx

[edit]

Do you have any anti-Checkmarx agenda? Why are you attacking Checkmarx on every page you can? It's a commercial company that offers SCA technology. You are attacking us on the Commercial list of tools, now on a modest technology page. What is the problem? I don't see you attacking other vendors' pages such as Coverity, Fortify, OunceLabs, Klocwork and others. They are all listed on the list of tools page, they are all "advertising" articles, which are no more than commercial pages, so why this prosecution of Checkmarx? —Preceding unsigned comment added by CxQL (talkcontribs) 09:46, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for adding the links to my reviews of the various obscure video gaming consoles. I thought it would be helpful to visitors seeking information on these systems that I own. I have read the guidlines for editing and I thought it would be appropriate to add these links. My intention was not to promote my site (which is free like wikipedia), but to share information. Being new to this community, I would appreciate any advice that you may have to prevent further editing errors.

Thank you very much.

Hi, I've tried to explain on the talk page for this article what my points are - I don't consider it to be opinion, but rather fact, that this company is a bit sneaky with the way they promote "their" products - other companies don't rebrand and repaint boilers to pass them off as their own. I'm not out to vandalise the page, just don't want these tactics to be glossed over. Hiberniae (talk) 17:07, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

EuroSafety

[edit]

I have changed lines in the article in order to try to not promote the company. My main objective of this article is to educate what happens at one of these training events.

Regarding notability, Eurosafety is extremely well known in the helicopter industry.

I have removed your speedy tag from this article as I do not believe it falls under WP:NONSENSE; it is not, for example, patent misinformation or a string of random characters, rather it falls more closely under WP:MADEUP, hence the prod. Ironholds (talk) 15:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dekisugi, Ironholds asked me for a second opinion on this as he wasn't sure, I agree with him. You might want to take a look at my essay that talks about the mistakes people often make when tagging articles for CSD... mistakes that unfortunately, are not addressed by many admins or are sometimes endorsed by them!---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 16:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I made a few milliseconds mistake. I tagged that just after Ironholds prodded the article. You know WP:TW doesn't detect this. If I saw the PROD template, I wpuldn't put the CSD. So no fuss. I don't blame Ironholds. Dekisugi (talk) 16:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be missing the point; the CSD template you put in was completely incorrect for that sort of article; in fact, CSD generally was. It isn't a question of "oops, I CSD tagged an article with a prod already there, my bad" but more "Regardless of the prod, I shouldn't have tagged it anyway". And I don't blame me anywhere since there is no blame to possibly be sent in my direction. Ironholds (talk) 17:02, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I still believe the article is a non-sense. I don't miss your point. I know that kind of article that will be CSD deleted. And you know what? The article was finally deleted with CSD reason. It's just a waste of time to PROD that kind of article. Dekisugi (talk) 18:18, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Therein lies the problem, especially (IMO) with the person who did the CSD did so improperly. G1 explicitly excludes, "poor writing, partisan screeds, obscene remarks, vandalism, fictional material, material not in English, poorly translated material, implausible theories, or hoaxes; some of these, however, may be deleted as vandalism in blatant cases." WP:Patent Nonsense covers two scenarios. The first being when there is nothing but random characters/letters that don't form any sense of a language. The second is when there are actual words, but the words are so completely and irredeemably confused that no reasonable person can be expected to make any sense of it whatsoever. This article fit neither of those, it was clearly talking about a holiday called sandwichmas. While it appears to be WP:MADEUP, hoaxes are not speedy candidates. They are excluded because some hoaxes have turned out to be true. My problem with the person who deleted it is that he is encouraging Adminshopping and careless tagging---when one admin declines a speedy tag, another should not (unless copyvio/BLP) delete it. The CSD criteria are set strict because careless speedy deleters can cause more long term harm to the project than the vandals they fight.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:08, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an admin. I just requested the article to be speedy deleted. It's up to the admin who rejects or accepts it. But I still believe the article falls into CSD G1, which explicitly says "purely of incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history". The article had incoherent text with no meaningful content. If you said that encourages an admin to carelessly speedy deleted it, you should make a complaint to the careless admin. Not the person who tagged it. But I have to say the admin was correct to speedy deleted it. So I'm happy with his/her action. Dekisugi (talk) 19:23, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Key words: incoherent text. The article had 3 or 4 sentences which were well written and described an imaginary holiday. Again, the fact that another admin doesn't follow the rules, does not make the deletion/tagging correct. The following is not incoherent text:
Sandwichmas is a holiday similar to the very well known and highly celebrated "Christmas." Sandwichmas pays tribute to sandwiches and all the great times they've given us.
This delicious holiday takes place right after Christmas day and usually lasts about one week. Instead of gifts and merriment being exchanged sandwiches are prepared and eaten for one's own enjoyment.
And yes, I am discussing this with the admin in question as well, because he has a history of deleting articles that shouldn't be. His deleting of this article only encourages more sloppy tagging and adminshopping, because he gives validation to people who do not know or understand CSD.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good if you have talked with him/her. Dekisugi (talk) 19:36, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just trying to help, and to improve the quality of one of the areas that is not worked properly. If you are ever thinking of running for admin, you might want to think about the advice I've given you. CSD'ers are finding it very difficult to pass RfA's unless they are showing a solid understanding of the policy/guideline because most rush it. Anyway, I wish you luck, and do hope that you reflect on what I've said. Review the policy and guideline on how the policy should be implemented.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks but no thanks. I'm not interested to be an admin. Dekisugi (talk) 19:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed today that you were doing newpages patrolling but are not marking some of the pages you visit as patrolled. Though this is not mandatory in any way, and should not be done for all newpages, where appropriate it keeps your fellow patrollers from wasting time reviewing the same page multiple times. In any event, keep up the good work! Thanks. Habbouser (talk) 00:31, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Monkey Breeders

[edit]

Hi, I note you have reverted the page back to Animal Husbandry.

Monkey breeding is a specialised and complex area and I think deserves a place of its own. Just like dog breeders etc

I am an ex breeder and I would like to see the content developed to inform people of what really happens and how it is done.

I hope to build on it in the next few days plus have some other breeders contribute to it.

For your consideration.

Reconsider my new entry ngoinabox south asia

[edit]

hi

I had created an article of the name ngoinabox which was deleted as being deemed blatant advertising by a company.

Ngoinabox is a set of free software tools which we distribute free of cost to ngo and voluntary organisations , and the entire boarding and lodging is also provided free of cost.

We are funded by Hivos netherlands www.hivos.org and tachticaltech.org , both are registered not-for-profit organizations, and we represent the south asia arm of ngoinabox. This is our website. http://ngoinabox.mahiti.org

Please let me know how i can put up my entry back in wikipedia.

link for article ````

[edit]

Hello, and thank you for correcting me, I was unaware I was doing anything wrong. I had wondered what had happened at first and thought I had made a mistake, hence my putting it up a second time. Then I saw your message. I do feel the link is of interest as it is from obviously a television programme about not just a story from one of the books, but also the author. Anyway I found it interesting and was chuffed at finding this on the web when my friend told me about it (he's big into the UFO thing). --SteveKSmith (talk) 14:28, 7 January 2009 (UTC) ````[reply]

[edit]

I understand. I'm not connected to UTube nor anything to do with the piece on there, so the link is not for promotion. Had a quick look at the Wiki guidelines and I think the issue here would be copyright of the video. The video is very professional and obviously from a television programme, so being on UTube??? Maybe best not to direct link to it. It is interesting though and I actually got to see the author on there. This is a similar issue I have for putting a picture of a book cover up, the internet is full of pictures of them, such as Amazon and WHSmith as well as Ghost fan sites, but can I use these images or at least one of them. My books are too tatty to use (they are well read). Thank you for your help and correcting me. :-) --SteveKSmith (talk) 14:49, 7 January 2009 (UTC) ````[reply]

Hello

Hello Dekisugi. A few things...

  1. That image that I'm seeing at the top of my page now only applies to US English keyboards, I think. For me to get the tildes, I have to press the key to the left of enter while holding shift. Maybe you might want to change your notice.
  2. Please don't do this. It's not nice to taunt people that are blocked. I've done similar things myself before, and you can get a bit of grief for it.
  3. Maybe you should consider nominating yourself for adminship. You seem to have been around a while, and it looks like the tools would benefit you. I suppose I could nominate you if you like.

Happy editing :-) Deskana (talk) 14:14, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The user who nominated the category was angry because he can't remove Karolina Kurkova from the list, when the links were added he decided he wants to remove the whole category. The reason he said he is removing it is because the site used an older photo of another model!

You can't allow people to nominate categories for deletion just cause they have a grudge against certain ethnicity of models. Davatrata (talk) 14:17, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
