Dave Arneson's birthdate and first Gen Con

I've added a cite for Arneson's year of birth based on your comments in Talk:Dave Arneson. However, I'm less certain about the specific day. EN World appears to modify the time/date based on where you are visiting from. So when I visit, it claims that the happy birthday post was at "10-01-06, 02:02 AM". Unless you've got good reason to believe that 9-30 is correct, I'm prone to delete it. Also, you did some good work tracking down when Arneson first visited Gen Con. You cite "D.G.U.T.S. (Gygax/Arneson, intro by Gygax 1 October 1975)." That sounds like a perfect citation for the fact; could you add it to the article? I'd add it myself, but I lack a copy of the work in question, so I can't put together a full citation (page number, publisher, etc.) I suggest using Template:Citation to put it together. — Alan De Smet | Talk 15:34, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, I didn't know ENworld shifted the post time into your local timezone - I'll have to watch out for that sort of thing. The person who made that ENworld post (Kevin Mayle) also posted this information in his LJ, where you can see from the user info that he is Florida, USA based - even if the post time were shifted for the viewer's timezone, relative to me on the US west coast, his post time (which shows up to me as 17:53) would still be the same day: http://kevin-mayle.livejournal.com/25028.html

Incidentally, I'm inclined to believe Mr. Mayle's date on the grounds that he was freelancing in the gaming industry for companies where Arneson was being published, and in this capacity had clearly come upon some other accurate lore from the Arneson camp, and of course on the strength of Dustin Clingman's corroboration on the ENworld page.

The DGUTS foreword I cited is actually quoted in the wiki entry for DGUTS: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Don%27t_Give_Up_The_Ship%21

However, it isn't dated there. The date does appear at the end of the foreword in the 2nd Ed (1975) of DGUTS - I typed the quote out from my copy, so I can provide proper bibliographic data for it. I'll see if I can figure out how to do a citation based on the template you provided.
