Welcome from Redwolf24

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

Image sizes

[edit]

I've noticed that you have added some images to articles, but set them to display at a larger size than they actually are (i.e., a 200 pixel wide image at 250 pixels). It's best not to make them display larger than they actually are, because they become blocky and look worse. tregoweth 19:26, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

Again, please don't enlarge images to a larger size than the image file actually is. (I notice that you tend to use 250px no matter what.)
If you're not MascotGuy, you're doing a great impression. Anyway, please don't enlarge images to a larger size than the image file actually is. Chances are, someone will just revert it anyway after seeing the bigger blocky graphic. :) tregoweth 02:06, August 8, 2005 (UTC)
Also, you aren't, perchance, the fabled MascotGuy, are you? You seem to be editing the same articles, and to be from the same geographical area. tregoweth 03:31, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
And, speaking of images, please don't remove tags like {{logo}} or {{unverified}} from images; they help to classify image files. (Though you can remove the {{unverified}} tag if you add copyright and source info for images.) tregoweth 03:49, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
[edit]

Also, you seem to have added material from the web site to [http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Frito-Lay&oldid=20426618 Frito-Lay. This is copyright infringement, and is a no-no. tregoweth 20:05, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

While we're at it, "image galleries" without text is a no-no. If you really are "Mascot Guy," please stop. - Lucky 6.9 00:42, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removing deletion notices is also a no-no. Please don't do it again. This is an encyclopedia, not a photo album. Thanks. - Lucky 6.9 00:50, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Templates for deletion

[edit]

If you want to submit a template for deletion, you have to do more than tagging it with a {{tfd}}. See Wikipedia:Templates for deletion for instructions. tregoweth 03:13, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Category rename process

[edit]

Hi! I notice that you have proposed renaming the category "City building games". I have posted a response at entry on categories for deleting and renaming. -- Sitearm | Talk 16:40, 2005 August 14 (UTC)

Hi! This is a reminder to post proposed category rename reasons at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2005_August_13#Category:City_building_games. -- Sitearm | Talk 02:48, 2005 August 16 (UTC)

Hi. I really think that the TV ads should be kept in List of The Simpsons TV ads, and removed from List of The Simpsons episodes, since they're not actually episodes, and since the episode list is already a very long article. I'm willing to hear any arguments to the contrary, tho. Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 23:54, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

Also, do not remove VfD notices from articles. See Wikipedia:Guide to Votes for deletion. tregoweth 01:35, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

Removing footnote tags

[edit]

I'm hoping you just didn't know what they were, but the footnote tags that start with {{mn and {{ref are in the three paragraphs that form the introduction to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy article for a very good reason. When clicked, they take a user straight to the referenced source at the bottom of the article. Such references are how the article got to be a feature in the first place, and why everyone can enjoy it today as a "Featured Article of the Day." PLEASE do not remove tags you're unfamiliar with, if necessary, please ASK where they came from and WHY they are there! --JohnDBuell | Talk 19:59, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Votes for deletion

[edit]

If an article has been listed on Votes for deletion, you cannot evade it by moving the article to another title. I have reverted your changes and noted this on Wikiquette alerts. tregoweth 22:48, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

It is usually considered polite to allow a VfD to come to a conclusion before moving the article around. Also, when an article is created with identical content to another, it is usually simply redirected back to the original article (or the other way around). The VfD process can be a bruising one, but it is important to just let it run its course, and not to be upset by it. It looks likely that the article will be kept, and it would be a pity if you were blocked for disruption over a VfD that is going in your favour. Give it a couple more days, and the horrible tag will be removed, and the article will be "clean" again! -Splash 22:55, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Categories for deletion

[edit]

I've noticed you added the {{cfd}} tag to several categories in the last few days. Please be aware that you also have to list the category at WP:CFD for discussion or else the tag will simply be removed. Thanks. --Kbdank71 14:14, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You want to rename "Category:Popular musical groups" to... "Category:Popular musical groups"? tregoweth 15:57, August 20, 2005 (UTC) Never mind, I didn't read that closely enough. But, yes, you can't just tag it {{cfr}}; you have to post it to WP:CFD, too. tregoweth 16:41, August 20, 2005 (UTC)

Editing

[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.
Remember to mark your edits as minor only when they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'."Wikipedianinthehouse 20:35, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

The Simpsons

[edit]

You added this paragraph to The Simpsons:

The television series is produced by Gracie Films for 20th Century Fox, and is the co-sponsor of Nestlé's Butterfinger with 22 TV commercial spots aired from 1990 to 2001.

Television shows do not sponsor products. Please learn something about what you are talking about, and English. tregoweth 21:54, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, Ddespie@san.rr.com. I noticed that you are having some problems with understanding Wikipedia, and I wanted to help you. My first piece of advice is to listen to the Wikipedians above; they are all experienced users trying to help you. My second piece of advice- when in doubt, ask. If you have any questions at all, don't hesistate to ask me (click on the "A note?" link in my signature and edit that page), or ask the help desk. Once again, welcome! Minor issue with Dance Dance Revolution (1stMIX) date

[edit]

Hello, and thanks for removing the "th"s from the DDR articles to make the dates conform to standards. However, I reverted the change to the 1st Mix article, since the month in "Month Year" format shouldn't be linked according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). This is because the September article is fairly unrelated to the game article. Individual date articles are more relevant, but are mostly just linked so automatic date formatting works properly. --Poiuyt Man talk 21:07, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Laura Scudder's

[edit]

FYI, Laura Scudder did not invent the potato chip and an article already exists for her. FYI, the potato chip was an accidental invention by a Native American chef at an inn in Saratoga, New York. Between this new identity of yours and the old "Mascot Guy" handle you were tagged with...not to mention a non-existent e-mail address as your user name...you are treading on very thin ice. I wouldn't have even left word here had it not been for the other users who have left similar messages. I'm dealing with at least three other users who are driving this site nuts with bizarre edits and I don't wish to juggle a fourth. If this behavior continues, you'll have a request for comment filed against you. This has to stop. - Lucky 6.9 06:14, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...Am I correct in assuming that you're writing a Tom and Jerry series guide to point this article to (instead of pointin it to Tom and Jerry (cartoon)? --FuriousFreddy 23:25, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nanostubs

[edit]

Short articles are welcome. On the other hand, substubs of the type you just posted are generally frowned upon as they are viewed as a potential waste of time and resources. Once more: Please research your subjects better before writing about them. Also, you have never responded to a single one of the users who have tried to help you. This is supposed to be a community, not a plaything. Please treat it as such and participate in it the way it's meant to be. Thanks. - Lucky 6.9 07:08, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment

[edit]

You should be aware that I am proceding with a request for comment. Edits like the one Tregoweth just commented on is one reason. Your complete lack of response to any and all contacts is another. I regret that it has come to this, but you have left me few, if any, alternatives. In the interest of fairness, I will contact you again when the comment has been posted. - Lucky 6.9 03:26, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Checking your present edits, I see that you're currently online. I am going to give you a chance to respond here on my talk page. - Lucky 6.9 04:08, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Straighten up

[edit]
  • If an image is only, say, 100 pixels wide, don't make it 200 pixels wide in an article; it looks horrible.
  • Please learn how to use verb tenses. You tend to use the past tense when you mean to use the present tense.
  • Reply to messages, because you're very close to being banned from this site.

Blocked

[edit]

That "Wigwam Mills" was obviously a hand-copied transcription of copyrighted material. It is not your writing style and it absolutely reeks of "sales speak." You have been blocked for one week for your apparent lack of respect for other users on this site and for using it as your personal playground. You are welcome to return after the block expires, but one more off-kilter edit will get you banned for much longer. You have caused more trouble for more good users than I've seen in a long time. - Lucky 6.9 04:58, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

[edit]

In Dr. Mario series, you added:

Dr. Mario & the Viruses make their first video game debut on NES and Game Boy versions in 1990.

This should have read "made" (it happened in the past). Also, something can't make more than one debut.

If English is not your native language, please consider moving to the Wikipedia that is in your native tongue. tregoweth 15:41, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

CFD again

[edit]

I've noticed that you are still marking categories with {{cfd}} but not listing them at WP:CFD. I appreciate your help, but without listing them properly, nobody will know about it, no discussion will take place, and eventually, someone will remove the {{cfd}}, undoing your work. Please list the categories so your work won't go to waste. Thanks. --Kbdank71 15:56, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Garfield-FullCast.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Garfield-FullCast.gif. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free media (Image:NickFamilySuitesLogo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:NickFamilySuitesLogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:Msfrizzle.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Jack Schrade Interchange

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jack Schrade Interchange, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not notable.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. The article Jack Schrade Interchange has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. Is this article about the interchange or the viaduct? Does this even belong on Wikipedia? Not reliably sourced.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rschen7754 03:09, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Ddespie@san.rr.com! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 4 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Fair use rationale for File:FievelsAmericanTailsTitle.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:FievelsAmericanTailsTitle.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
