[edit]Thank you very much for your hundreds of improvements to my first article. I saw from the log you spent many hours doing this, and I genuinely appreciate all your improvements.
I have a few questions and I don't know if this is the place to do this, so correct this newbie if I am out of place.
I read in "Your first article" that date formats are largely the choice of the submitter, so I went with my preference of 13 September 1945. I notice you put dates in September 13, 1945 format. Is there a standard?
I intentionally referred the birth date to the draft card because some biographies show his birth date as 26 December 1878. I believe his birth date was 26 December 1877, and I based that on his handwritten entries on the draft card.
Another newbie question: How can I show newspaper clippings from an online source (like newspapers.com)? I chose to do this on my personal web site (http://dcjetc.com/UncleJorgen/clippings.htm), but maybe there is a way to do this within Wikipedia?
Again, thanks much for significant improvements to my first effort. Dcj3616 (talk) 14:41, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- I did spend quite a lot of time on your article. It was my pleasure to improve it and add my own touches. "Uncle Jorgen" (who I assume was your relative) was a very fine sculptor so he certainly deserves the article to highlight his career accomplishments.
- With regard to date format, that is entirely your choice. I also prefer d/m/y formatting for dates. As for the newspaper clippings, I think you are better off just gleaning useful information from newspaper clippings and then typing it into your article with a citation to the newspaper. As you gain experience on Wikipedia as a writer and editor, I feel certain you will agree with me on that. My experience is that even one odd or bad photo in an article can mar its appearance in a negative way. If you insist on showing a newspaper clipping in your article, the best way to display it is with an external link as I did with the draft card showing Dreyer's hand-written birthday.
- Fantastic job on your first article! Keep up the good work. If you have any questions going forward, I will certainly try to assist if I can. While not an expert either, I do have a little more than a year of experience at this point so I know a few tricks. --Wapiti (talk) 18:13, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
