Wiglaf has resigned again. So have I. Find me elsewhere on other wikis as "Allamakee Democrat". As an Admin, can you shut down my account and free me of this self-inflicted abuse? I still want to steal copy-vio-free bits and pieces though. Goodness: I'm the category-king of another wiki. --FourthAve 07:48, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

specifically, I want you to white-out and protect all my pages as a resigned wikipedian. --FourthAve 08:06, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
sorry to hear it. do consider just taking a wikibreak, and feel free to ask me to unprotect again if you wish to resume editing any time. all the best, on whichever wiki, dab () 08:18, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I was bad. It's the Jim Nussle article, and the Republican trolls (I think we both hate Bush). See the new and improved version on Home wrecker and her new hubby. And yes, I'm the cat-king of this wiki: I'm inventing them. Within the month, I'll do 500 edits (all of them vis-a-vis Iowa. Thank you, O Swiss saint. Ulu is not so much a pig as a long-term inhabitant --FourthAve 08:42, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
well, it's easy to hate Bush, but it would be more to the point to highlight the catastrophical failures and evils of his administration as matter-of-factly as possible than spitting venom on the human frailties of his fellow Republicans. I mean, how do petty sex scandals compare to war crimes and human rights abuses, in the name of God and Freedom no less? I do think you are letting yourself be carried away. I am blissfully remote from US politics, so I may not care as much as you do, but while I do think that the Bush cabinet is on a straight path of evolving into the starkest approximation of evil incarnate since the Nazis (terms like Volk or Freedom are interchangeable to these forces, they'll pick whichever evokes the strongest echo from the masses at a given time), that doesn't mean I hate the Republican party as a whole. They used to be good-faith defenders of certain values, it just happens that they have become the (willing) vehicle of a hostile takeover by forces well beyond the confines of democracy or even humanity. The USA as a whole have a very serious problem, and drawing it to the level of soap operas and petty corruption is not helpful imho. I also think that if you can keep your cool, putting your finger into open sores with solemn determination, you will have a greater effect on a high-traffic site like Wikipedia than on some private wiki in the backwaters of the Internet. So you should really choose whether you are here for what you believe in, or rather for your ego and emotional kicks. dab () 08:53, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. I think you are suggesting I should be an Admin. Ulu would object. America has the greatest single integrated economy in the world, better than EU Europe, one also integrated with that of Canada (a smaller economy than that of California), but still one of the 7th greatest economies in the world. But yes, I hate Bush. Unfortunately, I actually believed him, and supprted the 2nd Gulf War. So, I must morally support all those soldiers, marines, and airmen in Iraq as the basically best Americans. But Mrs Clinton will be the next president.

I am not suggesting you should be an admin, I am suggesting you should consider staying around but dropping the belligerent attitude. Yes, the US's problem are not economical, they are political. Of course the troops on the ground are innocent of the schemes of their political leaders, and moral attachment of the population to soldiers at the front is the single most exploited tool by dictators to stay in power. Start a war abroad, and you'll be untouchable at home. It works every time. Every American should be aware the Goldensohn interviews with Göring. All the fascists did was "wave the flag in people's face, and wrap the flag around the leader, and telling them that they're being threatened by one menace or another, from abroad or within." [1], and as soon as the troops were in the field, denounce all criticism as treason and backstabbing. Do you think there was any less good-faith human and motherly attachment to the boys in the trenches in Nazi Germany because the cause was evil? The soldiers are just boys caught in the wheels of the war machine, regardless of whether the cause is just or evil. That is, until they crack and start killing, torturing and raping innocent civilians, as happens every time too, you know there are such rotten eggs among your "best Americans" just as among the troops of any evil empire. dab () 10:00, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pursusha sukta and Rajput

[edit]

Dab, great work on the Purusha sukta article! If I have any references on the sukta, I will try to contribute.

Raj2004 01:15, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It seems so many people are angry with you for the Rajput article. I do agree with them on their point; there is no Muslim Rajput. every Hindu knows that a Rajput is always a Hindu and may be a Sikh.

Raj2004 15:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification, Dab Yes, I do agree with you that we should have verifiable sources. some people, do need to to be civil; some of them seem to get angry too quickly!!!! They need to calm down!

Raj2004 16:35, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Rajputs are known to have big egos. As a Hindu, I am proud of them but I think their flaw was not getting united to defend against a common enemy, unlike Kannadigas (speakers of Kannada did with the Vijayanagara Empire which served as bulwark against Muslim invasions for 250 years.

Raj2004 16:38, 25 March 2006 (UTC) Dab, I added some stuff to Purusha sukta. Please correct any typos. Purusha sukta is a difficult text![reply]

In the Muslim Rajputs article, the article seems to mention that the Rajputs converted to Islam by Sufi missionaries. May be true but give me a break. Some were forced to convert or due to persecution. Where is that point of view?

Raj2004 02:43, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, Dab, perhaps you can move the Vaishnavite interpretation into a separate section. I will see if I add more summarization of Sayana's commentary. Yes, I will try to find out where those verse came from. Thanks, Raj2004 12:55, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Image tags

[edit]

Hi - I'm not gonna be able to access Wikipedia for two weeks, but here is my case on the image tags issues you raised:

(1) I have no idea what the "basic" source is. I dug the basic maps up from a few old files belonging to my family containing all sorts of papers - I don't know which book or publication these images originally belonged to.

(2) I disagree with your assessment that I didn't "create" these maps. Many editors make minor alterations to existing maps using graphics editors. I changed many image properties and re-defined the image, given that the original was in a poor condition - very dusty, partially damaged and unclear.

I can accept your view on the full map of the Indus valley, where the publishing party has placed a box titling the image and defining parameters (even then, Deeptrivia made alterations to the pic I uploaded). I cannot accept your assessment for the other image of Indus valley sites in northern India - that image is entirely defined by the graphic alterations I made.

There is no "bad faith" issue here. I firmly believe I can claim creation of the Indus valley sites in northern India. However, I trust your judgment as an administrator. Rama's Arrow 10:23, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category advice

[edit]

Do you think it would be useful to create a "Pagan and neo-pagan symbols" category? (Both lumped together so as to avoid disputes about what's truly "authentic"...) AnonMoos 19:22, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, according to conventional terminology, a lot of that would fall under "Animistic and shamanistic symbols", not really "Pagan and neo-pagan symbols". And the idea of having a specific category is so that you can conveniently find them all grouped together in one place, without irrelevant distraction -- that's why there's Category:Christian symbols , Category:Jain symbols , Category:Hindu symbols , etc. AnonMoos 14:02, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot! I see you already cropped it; I think that is fine, even if it shows just the graffito. It certainly is OK in Switzerland (see Talk:Harald Naegeli), and should be OK in at least Germany (Panoramafreiheit). Don't know about other places, though. In the U.S., 17 USC 120(a) applies only to architectural works; but frankly said, I would be very surprised if there was any law in the U.S. that would prohibit taking and publishing images taken at public places, even if such an image shows basically copyrighted artwork. And anyway, it's far from clear whether Undine is copyrighted at all; after all, it was created illegally... Lupo 12:01, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The doctrine of Hindu religion is 'inclusivism' (amorphous is different). The religion existed in Afghanistan and Central Asia. The current Journal of Indo-European Sudies (volume 33, issues 3 & 4) has two Corded Ware culture articles. They're Russians, P. Kuzentsov and D. Ya. Telegin. I perk up and suggest we really do Corded Ware culture as a featured article. These two articles explain two or more linguistic entities sprawling across all of Europe, from the Ural to the Rhine. The articles involve a good discussion of climate changes. Essentially, as the current article indicates, in the West, Yamna and Corded Ware were co-terminous.

It'll cost me $150.00 to get the next three years of this wonderful, twice-a-year journal.

And thank you for being a good wiki Admin. I've been bad. --FourthAve 09:03, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dab, we need a hand on Rajput -- recognizably our old friend again, so maybe you could consider using your powers. Regards, ImpuMozhi 22:52, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear dab,
I understand that you're busy, but would you mind explaining to me if you believe I've done anything wrong? Do you really believe that I've been disruptive to Wikipedia? Am I wrong to ask for citations? When I first started to edit the Rajput article, my edits were deleted and I was told by Zora and by you that I needed to cite sources for any claim that I might make, or else my edits would be reverted, so I went to the library and got the figures from the 1931 census report. When you pointed out that a statement that I added to the article was unsourced, you deleted it and I backed down. I didn't fight with you over it and insist that I had to have my way. The article as it currently exists is saturated with weasel statements and peacock expressions, and is a long series of unsourced and tendentious claims, some of which might be true but many of which are dubious and some of which I know to be plainly untrue. My reading of Wikipedia policy suggests that any editor may delete anything from Wikipedia that isn't properly sourced, but I didn't want to be heavy-handed, so I didn't just start deleting text, which was my impulse. All I did was to ask for citations, which you earlier said was my right. Has something changed?
Another thing I want to ask you is, do you think I've been uncivil or impolite to ImpuMozhi or anyone else? I know that I disagree with his POV, and I've stated my disagreements with his edits, perhaps bluntly, but do you think I've said anything to him that merits the things that he's said to me, such as calling me "unsavoury", "insufferable", "running amok", "trollish", "a troll", and maledicting me with "a pox" on my house. Do you think I've deserved the accusations of vandalism or of being a sock that he's directed at me? Do you think that I've done anything to deserve the threats that he's made to have me blocked from editing Wikipedia?--Bhola 16:46, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vinland Viking, eh? Sad, really. The opening bit sounds rather promising for a novel to read once or twice, sort of like Harrison's "Hammer and the Cross" trilogy, for the sake of entertainment. The comment, I do agree, does make one somewhat curious...  :)

Pokorny's nationality

[edit]

Do you think it's appropriate to have Julius Pokorny in Category:Czech linguists and have {{Czech-bio-stub}} on his page? (I know you aren't the one who put them there, but you didn't remove them either.) I'm sure he would not have considered himself Czech just by virtue of being born in Prague, any more than my father would have considered himself Burmese just by virtue of being born in Rangoon. I'm rather tempted to changes these to Category:Austrian linguists and {{Austria-bio-stub}}, but I'm not sure to what extent he would have considered himself Austrian (rather than German), either. I assume he had Austrian citizenship until all Austrians became German citizens at the Anschluss, but I have no idea what citizenship he had when he remained in Zürich after the war. What do you think? Angr (talkcontribs) 07:11, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can only say that his last name is typically Czech (lacking the diacritics though). I've tried consulting some Czech sources but haven't found anything concerning his nationality/citizenship. Daniel Šebesta (talkcontribs) 09:19, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He didn't speak Czech, though (at least it wasn't his native language; I have no idea if he had some knowledge of it), and he was a German nationalist who lived in Vienna from the age of 10 and then taught in Berlin, Bern, Zürich, and Munich. He died in Zürich but his ashes were taken to Vienna, which seems to have been his "emotional home"/Heimat. As I say, I don't know for sure what citizenship he held, but he had already been living in the Vienna area for 20 years when the first Czecho-Slovak Republic was declared, so I seriously doubt he ever held a Czech(oslovak) passport. On the entirely plausible and highly likely assumption that his citizenship was Austrian (at least until the Anschluss), I'm going to change the article now. Angr (talkcontribs) 09:43, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would avoid categorizing him by nationality at all until we have positive information. dab () 10:08, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have Ó Dochartaigh's biography but have only started reading it. I suspect he won't talk much about Pokorny's citizenship, though. Still, common sense dictates that he was born a citizen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (specifically the Austrian part), and that since he had been living in or near Vienna for 20 years when the Empire was dissolved, he became a citizen of the Republic of Austria at that point. Avoiding categorizing him by nationality is a nice, neutral idea in theory, but it won't work in practice, because if I just use Category:Linguists and {{Linguist-stub}}, someone is bound to come along soon and want to categorize him back into a country. Seing "born in Prague", they're bound to categorize him as Czech, which I just don't think is accurate. Angr (talkcontribs) 10:22, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will copy this discussion to the talk page of the Julius Pokorny article, so that it is more accessible to others. Daniel Šebesta (talkcontribs) 12:24, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question about the Gambeson article

In the Gambeson - article, you've added the hint, that a gambeson could have been stuffed with horse hair. We had some discussions about reconstructing a gambesson a while ago and were desperately seeking about some proofs that a gambeson could have been stuffed with horse hair, so I was glad to find your hint in this wikipedia article.

Could you please tell me where did you find this proof (findings, historical texts, exhibitions, etc...) and which time/period this proof was according to - any hint for a proof would be great

thanx in advance - Bernd Truckses

p.S. a part of the discussion (in german) you can see at: http://www.tempus-vivit.net/tempus-vivit/taverne/thread.php?tid=441&action=addvisit&from=39 ( entry 149 - 162, 106 - 113 )

please note that the "horse hair" part was not added by me, it was there before January 2005, when I re-arranged the article's content; but I have 'heard' of it too, and I'll try to find a reliable source. dab () 19:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you have time, please take a look at this article. Anon's recent additions seem to be fringe theories to me: that Sorbs are descended from Serbs, that the word Serb "is thought to originate" from Sarmatians, and that Sarmatism is related to alleged Sarmatian roots of Slavic peoples. Please help sort it out. --Ghirla -трёп- 10:23, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bgully

[edit]

I've looked at Bgully's editing history and it seems to be pretty much confined to attacks on you and those whom he describes as being in your "clique". I made an edit on WP:AN/I recommending that he be permanently banned [4]. Bishonen recommended that I discuss this with you because, she said, there are socks [5]. --Tony Sidaway 07:20, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ottoman Empire

[edit]

Would you like to offer mediation over a content-dispute in Ottoman Empire? I've already listed the article in RFC but I don't think it will help much. The article is under serious POV-pushing by Turkish editors who don't want to mention that the Ottomans were not an ethnic Turkish but an Islamic state. You can see the diffs to get a better idea of the argument. I agreed with a neutral editor on some edits but an anon (probably a sockpuppet) has been revert-warring under a varying internet number. There has already been a revision and a compromise, and the newer version forced by the anon has almost removed the original meaning. I don't know how to deal with this anymore, it appears that NPOV is protected only selectively. Miskin 02:28, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When I tagged it, it was a redirect pointing nowhere. I see that has now been fixed, which is a good thing and demonstrates that the tag made an improvement. I hope this answers your enquiry. jmd 08:40, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Back Again

[edit]

You can undo whatever I asked you to do. Look at Clear Creek (Utah). Boy do I do archaeological cultures, the Fremont culture no less. But I also do hydrological articles as with Yellow River (Iowa) and Paint Creek (Iowa) and Upper Iowa River. See also Black Hawk Bridge. I imagine you do minor Swiss articles too, auf Deutch. I have learned to upload images, finally. A lot of wiki syntax is still alien to me, notwithstanding my >4000 edits. I still don't know how to archive a page.

Ahem. I edited Wheel and introduced the evidence of that pot. There is an illustration in EIEC showing it. Bronocice pot. --FourthAve 04:04, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

bot correction

[edit]

you know, usually the ones that are real, REAL bad you can tell even using these kind of tools. often i'll take the time to stop and bring up the article, correct a little more, and if need be, put in a cleanup template (and sometimes a delete one). my human eyes see every correction i make, but as Linus Torvalds has famously said, "with enough eyes, all bugs are shallow". i wish i had a team of helpers. :/ JoeBot 17:47, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ringmail and vandalism

[edit]

It seems some unbidentified vandals keep replacing the ringmail article with stuff about it being a historical mistake. After all the work I had to prove to myself it was a true form of armor, I am tired of having to revert the page on a regular basis. I suggest protecting it might be a good idea.

Yours truly --Svartalf 14:26, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me to ask... but this is a matter I lack the necessary knowledge of German for. I do suspect that German language sources might confirm or infirm whether what is called in English ringmail, that is armour made of metal rings or small plates affixed side by side on a supporting garment was truly used during Merovingian and Carolingian times. I'm looking for sources that would specifically distinguish such armour from scale armour that is, overlapping plates affixed on the garment and chainmail, where the metal rings are interlaced together to form a mesh. I know chainmail has been used from times before christian era, but my sources hint that it's use decreased significantly during the dark ages, in favour of the ringmail that was less labour intensive and required less metal. English scholarship seems to ignore it all and decrees that all armour used by Germanic people and in Western and Northern Europe from the beginning of christian era, and the development of plate mail in the late 1300s was chainmail. So I'd like to know what the German speaking world says about this period of our history. --Svartalf 18:55, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA criteria

[edit]

Hi dab. While I disagree with you on this issue, I would direct you to reply to the mediation going on at Wikipedia talk:Good articles/Nominations, in order that your opinion can be properly represented. — JEREMY 10:35, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the mediation is with regards the GA criteria, not the cartoon article specifically, based on the statement "The issue at hand appears to be whether or not significant contributors of an article should be allowed to pass or fail said article for Good Article status." I might be wrong though; it's not 100% clear. Anyway, feel free to ignore the whole thing, of course! — JEREMY 10:52, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Same vile people

[edit]

I've fought back. I've learned to snoop into their edits and mail. Quoting their salacious bits turn them butt-upwards for the sake of keeping their truth quiet.

There is no privacy in wikipedia. I've figured out how to violate any one of their thoughts of this: I just edit their mail and edits. I violate them, I turn their articles, I make them mad.

And in the meantime I'm doing NYC subway articles with a very nice proto-Admin (request a seconding nomination for Larry_V for Admin). --FourthAve 11:45, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The admin in question is Tony Sidaway, who has stirred quite a witches brew of trouble for himself. He seems to be an abusive admin (Ihave no idea what an admin clerk is). Anyway, some links:
Yes, I've been a bad boy. I thought, however, that this whole thing was resolved by our earlier discussion on the topic. You, of all people, know how ignorant I am of wiki procedures, notwithstanding the number of my edits. All I remember is everyone dumping crap in my mail, and me telling those right wing Bush-loving trolls to eff off. Tony Sidaway will probably ban me for a year, no matter what the truth is: there are some very negative comments about him that amount to him being accused of abuse of admin privilages, particularly in terms of personal bias (he likes to ban admins), and overall, one into the abuse of process. --FourthAve 05:49, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Svastika etymology issues

[edit]

Hi Dab, Would you mind taking a look at the discussion page for "Svastika" under the "Etymology" section and giving a heads-up on the changes I've proposed there? I see from the talk history that you have worked for awhile on the etymology section, so I would value your input. Additionally, to be frank, I have had changes that I believe are warranted on this topic simply deleted along with a patronizing comment or two, so I don't want to waste my time trying to better the topic unless people are going to back me up. All of the changes I propose have to do with the Sanskrit etymology; the subsequent passage on "Subhtika is not Sanskrit so I can't speak to that. Thanks very much. Nomination for Admin: User:Larry_V

[edit]

(An identical post is left at Admin User talk:Sean Black's page.

I have no idea of how one goes about nominating an Admin. And considering my current reputation, I don't think I should even try. But since it seems inevitable I'm gonna be banned, I need to do a good deed before I go dark.

User:Larry_V is the only contributor consistently maintaining and upgrading the otherwise essentially abandoned New York City Subway project. For a while, I held this distinction, but dropped out because of a lack of interest by those who had started the project. His edit count is about 2500, and most of these are NYC subway related. Right now, he is struggling with very opaque wiki procedures for tables (specifically the 'infobox') showing up at certain articles about subway stations. Anyone dealing with the project for any time also realizes that there are certain bizarre things about the way things were originally structured (and then abandoned by those who structured it thus). He clearly has the staying power for the project, and needs the powers of an admin to demuck a lot of bad design and coding. He knows far more about wiki syntax than I. --FourthAve 05:52, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Noah's Ark and Deluge articles

[edit]

Just saw your edit in the Noah's Ark article. I gather you're suggesting that the section on other flood stories is too long and should be cut in deference to the existence of the Deluge article. I had a look at the Deluge article and for sure the relevant sections are identical, word for word. My own feeling, given that the Noah's Ark article has FA standing, is that the Deluge article is the one that should be altered. There's the fact of the two being identical, but also the Deluge article seems to me to be the weaker of the two, and the one that would benefit most from an upgrade. Do you have any views on this? PiCo 12:37, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would you consider changing your vote to keep the information if it were merged with List of groups referred to as cults or expanded into a broader topic: "The Transition from Cult to Religion." That might make a very interesting wikipedia article. cairoi 15:30, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Concerning Runes

[edit]

In the current version of the article about runes, the Middle Age dotted runes are labelled "dalrunes". Now, this is clearly wrong since the dalrunes, or Dalecarlian rune script, look more like this: http://www.angelfire.com/on/Wodensharrow/images/dalrunor.gif . It took me some while to trace the source of this flaw of the article, and I found out that this is the edit which relabelled the depcited Middle Age runes to "Dalecarlian rune script": http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Runic_alphabet&diff=8265225&oldid=8265221 . Obviously, you made the edit. Now I want to know why you did it. Strangely, for two years noone has corrected this mistake in the article, so I am not only blaming you here but practically everyone who has been involved in the article on runes. I haven't corrected the mistake in the article yet, though.

Jens Persson (130.242.128.85 19:09, 4 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I don't remember where this came from; I think I merged two articles, and Runic script identified "medieval runes" and "dalrunes". I'll be glad for your correction. dab () 20:35, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New status of the Swiss

[edit]

Hey dab, did you know that according to the information in Germans, the German-speaking Belgians and Swiss are undisputably ethnic German? Not to mention that USA has a 50 million strong ethnic German population. I wasn't aware of all that stuff, but to other wikipedians appear to be normal. What's your opinion on this? Miskin 22:39, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose the Swiss and Belgian German-speaking groups are as likely to deny this as we Austrian German-speakers are, but there's some natural relation, of course. I'm adamantly certain Belgian Germans see themselves as Belgians, Swiss Germans as Swiss and Austrian Germans as Austrians far more so than as Germans. —Nightstallion (?) Seen this already? 13:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the main difference is that Austria has had much tighter historical relationships with Germany, and even if many Austrians declare themselves non-German today, this would have sounded ridiculous to their own grandfathers. However, that's not the case with Swiss and Belgians. The two latter are multi-lingual nations which have long developed a distinct national identity, independently of language (which was the primary ethnic indicator of the 19th century German nationalism). Thus their German-speaking population is plain Swiss or Belgian-nationals. The content of Germans and Organised persecution of ethnic Germans is pretty much based on Nazi theories where unity by "race" is above everything. For the obvious reasons, such ideas cannot stand in wikipedia, and I'm troubled by the fact that they've been unnoticed for so long. Miskin 14:11, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is hopeless to give a headcount of "Germans" with any other definition than "people with a German passport". We can give estimates of 'ethnic Germans' here and there, but the numbers will heavily depend on your taste. Today, "Germans" means German citizens, period. dab () 20:55, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dbachmann and Ghirlandajo. As you may have noticed, I have included the 'Night/Eight in Indo-european languages' article a couple of days ago, and also a link to it from "List of Indo-European roots". Soon after, I was warned by Angr that the nature of the topic violated a few Wikipedia policies. I started a discussion with Angr inside the article space, but, after carefully reading his comments and the policies, I agree now with his (and Wikipedias's) rationale. I suspect that you (Dbachmann) having deleted the link itself goes in support of Angr's point of view. Anyway, I would like to wait for the formal deletion policy limit of 5 days before having the article eliminated, hoping that either (a) I could find reliable sources in the published literature to support an improved version of the article, or (b) some linguistic expert (which I am not, but any one of you guys surely is) could help me to do so. I still think the night/eight coincidence is interesting enough to deserve expert consideration, and in this case I would be very glad to have more information about it. Of course all this may just be a layman curiosity that finds no place in the wikipedia, but in case any of you could be kind enough to enlighten a neophite, I send my thanks in advance. Can you please protect the page? There's a lot of edit-warring going on.

Yom 01:29, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The page protection should be done in a non-biased manner. SO far, it looks like credible information that I posted has been removed, and "coiencidentally" a lock request has been made by Yom. I think I posted on this article or another that it's wrong to cry out about an edit-war when it's obvious that the resolution will only satisfy one side.

IN addition, the issue surrounding the CONTROVERSY about the race of the Ancient Egyptians was clearly laid out by my own contribution, which I felt required a more clear understanding of the Egypt-is-black position. So far, it has been filled with straw-mans and discredits, and what I call "feints" (examples of failed attempts to have legitimacy). The black position is based on sound reason, and not on some slavery revenge tactic. I would, following the RFC policy ask that an objective approace is done, and not to unilatarally remove content without disucssion first to a COMPROMISE. --Zaphnathpaaneah 02:03, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dab, the problem you are having is that you want the article "Controversy over race of Ancient Egyptians" to be called "Controversy over what some people think the Egyptians should be known as". The article DISCUSSES the CONTROVERSY. Why is that so hard for you to get? I presented one aspect of the controversy clearly, and your response is to complain about how the article isn't resolving the controversy. THATS NOT THE ARTICLE'S PURPOSE! If there is an article discussing the controversy surrounding Jimmy Hoffa's death, you would not go in there and argue against all of the well known theories that YOU disagree with. You would present all of the theories that have any kind of strong history or credibility and then that's it. With Egyptians, the whole issue of black identity is one of your own personal grudge. YOu find blackness to not even be meaninguful fine. But you, like so many others, fail to take that approach objectively. No where do I see you posting articles telling white people that a white identity is nothing more than a slogan or a mantra. You are not even a part of the black identity (You cant possibly say you are, then reject it as a slogan or mantra, even if you ARE equatorial african). You dont KNOW what Black Identity really is, you only have your own idea of what it should be under whatever circumstances you think it should fit within. Thats the kind of white ignorance that sets black people off anyway. You are in no position to determine what another group of people should or should no longer identify as. --Zaphnathpaaneah 04:05, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I didn't write the article, although I don't think that was a baseless accusation but it is perhaps POV. I will see if I can find sources and whatnot. Thanks, -- - K a s h Talk | email 16:32, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
