FR Template Box

[edit]

Any idea why every one of them says "Karsus" in it? I have NO idea how to do textboxes like that, so I dunno what to do about it...!--RYard 22:43, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, got it. Makes sense. I wish I had more time to devote to all this, because I really think it could be a wonderful resource in the end.--RYard 02:14, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's my point, too. Personally (but your mileage may vary), I edit a lot for a while then stop for a while. For instance, I did almost no work on the FR for a month. Until next crisis period :-) Reply to David Latapie 10:44, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the RV was technical. If I missed something, at least the larger article is restored. Kchishol1970

The article is unclear that the subject is fictional. In future, please check your fiction to avoid causing confusion. Gwalla | Talk 02:27, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Can you please tell me what page of Faiths and Pantheons that was on? Jarlaxle June 28, 2005 05:45 (UTC)

Oh, wait. You were referring to the core Dungeons and Dragons version of Faiths and Pantheons, right? I have the Forgotten Realms version of Faiths and Pantheons, but in that version, it contains very little information about Ao and doesn't mention him serving anything. Jarlaxle June 30, 2005 05:41 (UTC)
Thanks. That explains it. I have the third edition FR version. Jarlaxle June 30, 2005 20:46 (UTC)

Sigil

[edit]

From Sigil and Beyond...

If a DM's got to describe the place with words, the closest prime-material analogy is an auto tire. Imagine a tire - no hubcap or wheel rim - lying on its side. Sigil would be built on the inside of the tire. All the streets and buildings would fill the curved interior. Meanwhile, on the outside there's nothing, see?
The edges of the ring are all solidly lined by buildings with no windows or doors on their backs.
And then there's Sigil. Sitting at the tip of the spire, it's a different world. Spells in the Cage work as if a cutter was on the outermost ring of the plane.

There are also several illustrations that show Sigil atop the Spire. Sigil is a torus, but open like a ring or tire, with buildings on the inside. I'm too lazy to verify with 3ed, mostly because it doesn't have pretty pictures. shoecream July 9, 2005 06:39 (UTC)

Sossal and the Realms

[edit]

Hi. I'm afraid I deleted your Sossal article because it had no content except an external link and a template. Deb 17:47, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's okay, only it might be as well for you to familiarise yourself with the criteria for speedy deletion, so that you don't lose work in future. Deb 18:06, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think the template you want is called "inuse". Deb 18:13, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anauroch &c.

[edit]

Hey; Thanks for all your DnD-related posts! I think, the more info we can get on wikipedia, the better. I'd like to ask, if it's not too much trouble, that you post more than simply a single external link and some stub tags, but actually just try to put in a one- or two-sentence blurb before you save a new article. Otherwise, it's just a completely empty entry, which is very likely to be speedy-deleted, or, at the best, will take another editor a small amount of time to do what you could have done in essentially no time; basically, if something's worth creating, it's worth adding at least a line or two of, you know, content. jglc | t | c 18:33, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome. Sounds good to me. If you need any help filling stuff in, just ask; I'm usually around. jglc | t | c 18:37, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  1. The site(s) that you've been referencing look pretty definitive to me. I'm not particularly a Forgotten Realms player (homebrew campaign), but some Googling doesn't reveal anything much better.
  2. The guidelines for starting a wikiproject are right on the page, at Wikiproject#Suggestions_for_new_projects. :) jglc | t | c 18:44, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I'm too personally busy right now, but how about you post some messages in the various DnD talk pages (especially at Forgotten Realms and Dungeons and Dragons) to see if anyone else is interested? jglc | t | c 18:48, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Even better. Let's hope we can raise some support. jglc | t | c 19:06, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Shaar & Eastern Shaar

[edit]

I'd say that Eastern Shaar could become a redirect to Shaar, so long as you include a note in the latter article about this distinct geographical region of the area. jglc | t | c 19:10, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah; I'd say you could consider them effectively the same region. Rather, Eastern Shaar is a region within Shaar. jglc | t | c 19:16, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Although I would have tended to agree, I finally decided to make them to different entities, because of the former Titan kingdom that once lied in Eastern Shaar Reply to David Latapie 21:38, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. If it's noteworthy as an entity in its own right, it may perhaps belong in its own page. jglc | t | c 04:43, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Contentless articles?

[edit]

Hi, I see that some of the articles you've created do not appear to have any content at all, other than the stub tag and the "this is being worked on tag". I'm no expert, but I think being contentless is grounds for speedy deletion. Since it looks like you're working on them, I'm not going to go tagging them for deletion or anything, but you might want to start them out with at least a sentence or two so people can see what they're about and so they don't get deleted. Hope this helps. Friday 20:17, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Winterkeep

[edit]

Placeholders are generally discouraged--all Wikipedia articles are considered to be growing/evolving. That said, if there is a pressing need to preserve spaceholder headings (or whatever) to generate a consistent format, the best solution is to use an HTML comment around them to keep them from appearing on screen (click edit to see example). Happy editing. Niteowlneils 01:02, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Headers with no content

[edit]

I reverted your edits because the headers you added have no content to go along with them. It really makes the article look strange and makes it look like some Wizards-sponsored website. Jarlaxle 19:52, July 25, 2005 (UTC)

Frozenfar

[edit]

I've listed Frozenfar on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. Yes the source is cited but its a verbatim copy with no original content. No effort was made to paraphase. Mark 23:49, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. As the copyvio template is on the page now I would suggest rewriting the article (in your own words from the source) at the temp subpage. Thanks for getting back to me, and so quickly. Mark 00:00, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Clicking on the red link above will get you there, it will be just like starting a new article. Mark 00:05, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit to the above article, because I do not think it is correct, and no source appears to be given. AFAIK, the only wing-clawed bird is the juvenile Hoatzin. If you can verify the statement, it in any case needs to be clarified whether it applies to Resplendent Quetzal, all five quetzals, or the whole of the trogon family. thanks, jimfbleak 16:44, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Leira redirect

[edit]

I've reversed your blanking of the Leira redirect. Please use Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion if you wish to remove the redirection. Simply blanking pages on Wikipedia is not the correct way to remove bad content. TexasAndroid 21:22, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly is the problem with the Leira article as far as you know, for it to be nominated for deletion? I don't see any reason for it, a disambiguation page could perhaps be used more appropriately? KaXoR 13:46, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forgotten Realms Template

[edit]

Thanks for doing this...I like it. I was starting to get frustrated with SimonP taking out the headers. Now I'll go back and redo some of the changes I made to make him happy so it's not redundant.

As far as the Fallen Kingdom goes...hmmm...I've got info here that refers to all the early elven kingdoms as Fallen Kingdoms, and not just Illefarn...I'll do some more research.--RYard 05:01, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Much as I might prefer a template, don't think it's a battle we can win. What say you to a standard opening sentence, like the ones I had earlier? No clue how to fill in the data on the box, unfortunately...--RYard 19:34, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi David. I was replying to say that I'm afraid I don't know how to create a template, but from the above, it looks as if someone else has already been able to help. Regards, CLW 08:43, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh, I thought the template thing was decided when someone went into the Baldur's Gate article and deleted it...I like the template idea, I just didn't think it was a hill worth dying on, and it looked to me like "Delete" was the vote of the day...! So I'll retract my statememt about removing the template. I just need to give it some thought here...hmmm...--RYard 21:57, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bhutan

[edit]

Hi. Links under =External links= have to do with the subject as a whole, not a small or specific aspect of the article. The Guardian has specific matter on Bhutan. FR-Location

[edit]

Hello,

Yeah, sorry. Now I see that the template eradication was a bit hasty, but now I'm going through my list of recent changes and fixing it - and there's not that many non-context articles as I first thought. --Misza13 20:09, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I think I have "contextified" all de-FR-location-ed (by me) articles. I have also changed all FR-stubs into ForgottenRealms-stubs, so the FR-stub can now technically be deleted. --Misza13 15:44, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rulers.org

[edit]

Hi Vrykolaka,

I don't think it is such a good idea to be adding links to Rulers.org. Although the site doesn't appear to be commercial, the links don't really add very much and this sort of linking from many articles falls under Wikipedia:spam.

As a rule, Wikipedia isn't really looking to increase the number of external links, we generally perfer the information to be contained within the encyclopedia. For example List of Co-Princes of Andorra already contains more information much better formatted than the link you added. -- Solipsist 19:12, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, they are exhaustive listing and sometimes nothing is written, like for Aruba. Granted, Armenia and Andorra are counter-example.
Still, I think this is a good link, especially as it is very dense. On the other hand, I agree external links are not that great, but I can"t afford the luxury of entering all the data in Wikipedia.
Maybe a template with this kind of generic link (all rulers, all regions, all naming, all whatever) could be a good idea, don't know. -- Reply to David Latapie 19:15, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's true. And there are other web sites that have a template for common links to them (such as imdb).
On the other hand, list of rulers is the sort of thing than quite a few people on Wikipedia spend a lot of time working on. Have you looked to see whether there is a WikiProject for this sort of thing. If there is, you might be able to just point them toward rulers.org and get a pile of help in bringing the information into Wikipedia. Come to think of it, Wikipedia talk:Featured list candidates would probably be a good place to ask — lots of list fanatics there :) -- Solipsist 19:29, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I added the main link here and here. There is no Wikiproject for that and I won't create one but there is a Wikiproject category for politics, law and government. I still don't know what to do for individual entries. It is quite seducing to enter such a link for every countries, but on the other hand, this is not structured (this is actually one of Wikipedia's biggest flaw — lack of structure, but I digress). I also wrote a message on Wikipedia_talk:Featured list candidates, as suggested. Reply to David Latapie 20:10, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

I have received your e-mail and I unblocked the IP. You may wish to check with your service provider to see if it's possible to change your IP address. It's not always possible. My Internet service can't (or won't) do so and I'm forever getting caught in blocks. By rights, blocks on IP addresses should be no longer than 15 minutes to an hour. Cheers. 23skidoo 16:30, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to be of service. Administrators are given a range of options for blocks, ranging from 15 minutes to indefinite, depending upon the nature of the offence. 24 hours is the most common block but it's usually given against specific users as opposed to IPs. 23skidoo 20:21, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Colouring

[edit]

Hi, I don't claim to be an expert on the matter, but I think (am not sure) that because the links are coloured, they override the list-item tag. So if you put:

*[http://wiki.riteme.site <font color=green>green</font>
*[[purple|<font color=purple>purple</font>]]

then you can colour the links. Don't know about the bullet points themselves. I don't know if that's what you're after, but I hope it helps. Neonumbers 23:15, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, David. In case you're not watching closely, here's another suggestion about how to color list bullets. HorsePunchKid 2005-10-21 04:11:04Z

Hello! Thanks for messaging me. I had long ago, back when I was setting up the main Forgotten Realms page and early gods pages, and then again later when I was creating the FR categories, to create an FR WikiProject. I never got the time or had the energy, though, so thanks very much for starting one yourself!

As for my contributions to the project, feel free to message me with questions or whatever - I have a comprehensive pile of sourcebooks and novels. But these days I'm generally a lot more busy and have less time for dedicated 'Pedia work, so I may not be able to contribute that much. Put me up for the project though, and I'll do what I can :) -Erolos 15:22, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Thanks for the invitation to join the project. However, I'll decline your kind offer as this isn't an area that I actually have any knowledge about - my previous work just involved tidying up stubs after I stumbled across a couple of them and decided to explore further. Best of luck with the project, though! CLW

An offer of sorts

[edit]

Just before I learned of this project I adopted a wiki that had already been started all about the Forgotten Realms. I'd like to start a collaberation between your project and my wiki at http://forgottenrealms.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page. I'd love to have you guys and your experience with wikis working with me as well as myself working on this project. There are some admin positions available as I'm going to be quite a busy guy for the next year or so. Thanks in advance -hash 16:19, 16 December 2005 (GMT)

As previously stated on the Wikiproject pages, I think it would be a great idea to move a lot of the smaller places (as well as pretty much everything else, to start up on) to the FR Wiki, as there'ld of course be more tolerance on stubs and experiments over there. As I see it, we just need to decide what is worth of a general encyclopedic mention on here, and what is mostly suited for a special encyclopedia like FR Wiki. Poulsen 12:17, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Poulsen did a great work at "temp-merging" (until we have enough material for one full article) a lot of countries. I agree with him about the demarcation between the two project. Maybe should we take inspiration from Memory Alpha, the Star Trek wiki. Reply to David Latapie 09:51, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it would be really great if I got some help. It's a tough job doing all of this by yourself... hint, hint. hash 10:23, 19 January 2006 (GMT)

Yeah, I found the project page right after contacting you.
I added the 2e map of Faerun to the relevant article a couple weeks ago, if you haven't seen it yet. It's slightly larger scale than the 3e one, encompassing areas a little further east and north and the western ocean out to Evermeet. Rogue 9 05:42, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great idea. I actually have this map on my computer, but never thought of adding it, although it's usefulness is certain. I will add a tagline: “From Evermeet to Winterkeep”. Kudos to you! Reply to David Latapie 13:51, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

French words

[edit]

Hi, Please note that Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Articles are about things, not about words, in general. The exception is the case of words that are unusual enough to merit an article about the word itself. Please be conscious of this when adding words to "French words". Words that have entered common English usage should probably not be put in this category just because they happen to originate from French. Half the words in the English language come from French originally. Unless the "French-ness" of the word is somehow notable, it probably should not be included. This might be a good category for Wiktionary, though.

Another problem with putting articles into this category: since articles are about things not words, articles that fail the criterion above can be renamed at any time to a synonym which is not a French word.--Srleffler 12:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Got your message. See Category talk:French words for a longer explanation of what I'm getting at. My main objection to including an article like Avalanche in Category:French words is that an avalanche is not a French word, nor is it an English word. An avalanche is a large amount of snow or rock sliding down a mountainside. The word avalanche is a French word, but the Wikipedia article isn't about the word at all—it's about stuff sliding down mountains. See Use-mention distinction if the (subtle) point I'm trying to make isn't clear. I also found the Wikipedia writing guide's advice on "refers to" helpful.

The level of absorption of a word into the English language comes into this too. While avalanche was clearly imported from French, it has become an English word. A native English speaker uses this word without thinking about it as a foreign term. This is relevant in that, since Wikipedia is not a dictionary, one would not expect to find an article about the word avalanche here, as opposed to an article about avalanches. With foreign terms, the word itself may be less familiar to an English speaker, so the article naturally either focuses on the word, or covers both the word and the thing the word describes. Voyeurism might fall into this category.--Srleffler 05:19, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree. Wikipedia isn't really well suited to categorization of words. Wiktionary is. --Srleffler 01:49, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forgotten Realms project

[edit]

Greetings!

I would be delighted to assist with the Forgotten Realms project, if you point out any pages which need work, or creating, then I'll work to the best of my ability on them. I apologize for the delay in responding, I have been quite busy during the last few months with study, aswell as experiencing a computer failure last winter. Hi David. The Forgotten Realms Wiki continues to grow and we are maintaining a large number of articles now. Would you be able to put a link to the wiki on your project page please? You are, of course, welcome to use any articles on FR-Wiki as a basis for Forgotten Realms-based articles here at Wikipedia! This is Fw190a8 from FR-Wiki. 18:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fancy Black Rats

[edit]

I'm not an expert, by here are some off-the-cuff thoughts. The thing that makes fancy rats good pets is that they have been bred for many many generations to be pets, with the aggressive, overly skittish, and unmanageable ones being selected out. Presumably the same thing could be done with black rat, but just any old black rat, even if it was born in captivity, would probably not make a good pet. Probably brown rats were the ones bred as pets simply because brown rats are most common in European countries. KarlBunker 21:09, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

ballista

[edit]

the ballista was not only a giant sized siege crossbow.

there were small field versions called Scorpion, already employed by the Macedonians for backupfire when their phalanx moved.

Don t write nonsense.

onager and ballista

[edit]

Onager and ballista are similar, if you look at the conditions they are operated. In the late Roman Empire small onagers supplanted many field ballistae. They were small weapons one man could carry and operate. First of all, both use torsion elasticity springs, this system is the most efficient way to store and release energy. They are the only weapons using this system. A ballista has two springs, an onager one. Your assumption that a ballista shoots straight and an onager ecliptic is not true. Both shoot ecliptic, that is a law of nature, applying for sniper rifles and artillery even tody. Depending on the ratio of a projectiles velocity to the acceleration of gravity you get courses that are more straight or more bent. For a long time circles and straight lines were used to describe flight patterns. But it does make no difference how a projectile is accelerated. The projectile of an onager flies in a tangent off from the circular way of its acceleration, so settings can be made easily to let it fly "straight" into sth.. The projectile of a ballista has a linear acceleration. This system is fixed sideways and enables a better ability to aim. But friction reduces the amount of energy released (in the crossbow article it should be mentioned that friction was reduced as much as possible). An onager is not fixed sideways, the ability to aim is reduced, but there is no friction and you have one spring. That is half the amount of care a ballista needs. The effect for both is the same if they are shot against a target that is hard to miss, like a ship, a citywall or an infantry formation. Someone or something gets hit. The slow repetition of shots made it favorable to use massive ammo and shoot it from close distance. A ballista was not suitable for this, very massive projectiles can not pass between the two springs. Furthermore if a projectile gets heavier compared to the released kinetic energy, it has reduced velocity and this leads to a course that is more bent. So onagers and ballistae have the same route for their development (torsion elasticity springs) and mostly similar functions on the battlefield. The sniper function of a ballista could be fullfied with other measures.Wandalstouring 15:38, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TextMate limitations

[edit]

Hi David,

You added a bunch of new limitations to the TextMate article, most of which I've taken out. Mostly, this is because the items you referenced are very minor gripes. This article only covers the main points of the TextMate interface, and if we're going to highlight every instance where bbedit has a feature TextMate is lacking, then we should of course add every super-minor feature that TM has. And that list would be absurdly long. Wikipedia is a place for summary, and I think we've done a pretty good job being fair to TextMate. More specifically, you can indeed diff a document with its saved version, or with the clipboard, or diff two documents, you can do html validation (using WC3), the correct renaming in Finder behavior is debatable, and was a conscious choice by Allan Odgaard, as far as I know, and I'm pretty sure you can set a default type for unknown files, though this is an exceedingly minor point if not.

Re: "young editor": I'll leave your change (removing "young"), as it was a bit weasel-ey of me too put the "young" disclaimer in in the first place, but TextMate is pretty darn young as a product, when compared with the other editors around. That it compares favorably with vi (1976, 1991 for vim), emacs (1975), bbedit (1993), XCode (~1990 in NEXTSTEP), etc. is pretty remarkable.

--jacobolus (t) 20:03, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(from jacobolus talk) Hi Jacobulus, [sic]

I agree with you on both what you removed and what you kept. About youth: maybe this is because young and immature are often confused. You are right, TextMate is pretty young compared to vi or even BBEdit (but, apart from Emacs and some obscure line editors, what can possibly be old compared to vi ? ;-) ). My gripe was about youth as an excuse and an Apple award should discard such an excuse.

All of this IMHO, of course. And as I said, and I'll say it again, your corrections are very good, I'd like more collaborators to be alike you :-)

By the way, do you know any point-per-point comparison between BBEdit and TextMate? Not litterate [sic] stuff, just straight, binary, comparison. Thank you
David Latapie ( | @) 14:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad we can come to a consensus on this. Thanks for the compliment. Most Wikipedians are pretty nice as long as the disputes stay civil and well-reasoned, I find. W.r.t a point-by-point comparison of TextMate and BBEdit, I don't feel that such a comparison is really possible. It is not a checklist of features which makes a product (whatever mid-90's–era software packaging may have implied). BBEdit and TextMate are both rich applications, with somewhat different user bases, and completely different approaches to a common problem. Both are extremely capable, and so most results can be achieved with either one. I feel like BBEdit is softer on newcomers, especially those from a wysiwyg world. TextMate, however, can pay off for users willing to invest a bit of time, and its resulting power is less cryptic than vim or emacs. I suggest you try them each for 2-3 weeks, and decide for yourself. If you have any TextMate questions, feel free to drop by ##textmate where lots of TM power users hang out. --jacobolus (t) 21:51, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Elementbox

[edit]

Re: [1] What about Mercury (element)? (This exception was the only reason I used an additional parameter in the first place.) Femto 17:52, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arg! I did not noticed Mercury :( I would say, “live with it”. I'm quite confident there is a way to override on a case-per-case basis.
David Latapie ( | @) 18:06, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see three options:
  1. substitute {{Elementbox_isotopes_begin}} in the mercury (element) article with a block of custom code
  2. intercept this case in the template with a parser function that changes mercury (element) to mercury
  3. create a redirect isotopes of mercury (element)isotopes of mercury and use the pipe trick in the
[[Isotopes of {{lc:{{PAGENAME}}}}|]] link (though I'm not at all convinced it'll work with those brackets..?)
I'm leaning towards 2., can you code something like that? Femto 18:22, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't like 1 and I don't know how to do 2. 3 looks good; the redirect part is OK, the pipe part is not. (I also like you way of managing discussions).
David Latapie ( | @) 18:28, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like my parser function works. (by the way I'm fine with just watching your page, let's keep the discussion all in one place) Femto 19:10, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know of a way for getting notified of any changes on a page user talk-style but for other pages? I mean, I like the big orange "new message" box, but I'd like to have this for other discussions too. That would ease conversations. Bravo for yor script.
David Latapie ( | @) 20:14, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! No, far as I know it's only possible with your talk page. I usually keep track of current discussions on my User contributions; modified pages lose their (top) marker. You can also filter out talk pages, [2] in your case. It's better than nothing. Femto 21:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea, thank you!

Hi. You recently edited the Titanium article, but didn't provide a reference for your edit. I was not able to find anything through a quick internet search. Would you possibly be able to cite your reference in the article? Thanks. --KeithB 14:37, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly. I didn't delete your edit. I just added a {{fact}} tag after it. All in all, the article seems like it could use more references. Cheers. --KeithB 14:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Small-caps et Safari

[edit]

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance ! Manuel Menal 17:08, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Technogaianism

[edit]

I've radically improved the Technogaianism article in order for every claim made about technogaianism to be based on a source rather than our personal opinion. --Loremaster 10:07, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Thank you for your work. Could you also add an explanation of the differences with Bright green environmentalism?
Have a nice day.
David Latapie ( | @) 03:06, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed any mention of a difference between technogaianism and bright green environmentalism because I don't have a source for this claim which can cited. This would go against Wikipedia:No Original Research and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view policies. --Loremaster 03:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Samarach.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Samarach.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:00, 13 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 22:00, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also these images: Image:Evermeet.jpgImage:Murghôm.jpgImage:Great_Rift.jpgImage:Luiren2.gifImage:Tharsult.jpg Image:Vilhon_Reach.jpg.

You did not state where you got these images. Every image uploaded should have a source. I'll guess that you got these from a website. Please provide that url to the HTML page that these images can be found at and put that into the image description page by editing it. Thank you. MECUtalk 11:34, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While I do not doubt that you're having issues, it's not a common problem and is not encyclopedic. Iin your case stating that Parallels does not support anything aside from Windows XP and Vista is completely false, though it may be for you. A look at Parallels' site, or the wikipedia page on them will confirm they support a board range of OSes (DOS, all 32-bit windows, linux, etc). Thus your statement of "fact" is not actually true and your personal experience is (as you said) original research. You may wish to try parallels support forum to see if your issue can be resolved, or just stick with fusion. If you find that your issue is much more common than I thought, and it's well documented then I'd add the info the parallels' wikipedia article, not neccessarily fusion's. Cheers. Fair use rationale for Image:Cormyr.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cormyr.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gavin Collins (talk) 15:58, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Creator Races

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Creator Races, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Creator Races. Hi. I refactored your post on Talk:Sarrukh; please do not cut in to another post, it makes it unclear who said what and, basically, interrupts the other user.

FYI, I proded the to articles above as non-notable; I saw the bot notified you. While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

I intend to revise those articles following the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. There are more details on the discussion pages of those articles. I'd be interested in any comments you have. It would be best if your comments were on the discussion pages of the two articles.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Move-by-wire requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
