The WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter
Issue II - January 2008 Got any suggestions? - Add them here |
Welcome!
Welcome to the second WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! December has seen some real progress in terms of bringing up the quality of roller coaster related articles on Wikipedia. Assessment and tagging of articles is almost completely done and efforts are now being focussed on quality and improving articles. This month also sees the start of the new B-class drive, a brilliant way to get involved with the WikiProject and achieve something together. |
Articles and Assessment
As far as assessment goes, the backlog from last month was cleared almost immediately after the last newsletter went out, almost single-handedly by Alton! A progress chart can be seen on the assessment page that shows we are slowly dragging up the quality of the articles covered by the WikiProject.
The following articles reached B-class quality during December: |
Amusement Parks Portal
The Amusement Parks Portal has been significantly expanded over the past month and is currently a candidate for featured portal. Any suggestions for featured articles and pictures can be put forward on their respective sections. |
Membership News
During December the WikiProject was joined by 2 new members, bringing the total number up to 49 after 2 inactive users were removed from the member list. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments. |
B-class Drive
This month's B-class Drive: Arrow Dynamics
So here is the first article improvement drive for the WikiProject, Arrow Dynamics. There isn't a huge amount that needs doing apart from the addition of references, formatting and a copyedit. For any outstanding contributions there are barnstars available which can be given to and by anyone! Any suggestions for February's B-class Drive can be brought up on the talk page, so if there's a particular article you feel could benefit from more input then feel free to suggest it. |
...and finally...
Once again, thanks for reading! As always suggestions and offers of help are much appreciated. |

His name is Marquis. Go to http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing?lid=ABCCOMGlobalMenu&lpos=FEP and replay the first show. Go to the final 5 minutes and watch them get introduced and you will clearly see his name spelled Marquis. After that please revert your edit. --Jeanenawhitney (talk) 00:21, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I can't help it if ABC had a typo. His name is MARQIS without the U. I can send you his high school senior year yearbook picture which states that it is Marqis. You can also check out his high school's website (www.glendalehigh.com) which CLEARLY knows how to spell his name. You can also check out his official website www.qiswalker.com . How much more proof do you need?????? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.83.8.220 (talk) 06:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Marqis name spelling
[edit]Davehi1, I believe the above anom user above (talk) because he/she cited sources above, but he/she did not do so when making his/her edits in the first place. I thanked him/her for providing the useful information and noted it on the talk page as well as referencing on the article itself. If only they had provided this information in the first place when they made their edit we would have never had these discussions. His name is spelled Marqis and the live show was wrong. Discussion over. Thanks --Jeanenawhitney (talk) 10:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Issue III - February 2008 Got any suggestions? - Add them here |
Welcome!
Welcome to the WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! January has seen a number of milestones being passed in the WikiProject. We've achieved our first good article, brought a portal up to featured portal status and successfully collaborated together on the first Article Improvement Drive, amongst other achievements. Let's carry on with the good work and continue bringing up the standard of all articles covered by the WikiProject! |
Articles and Assessment
We hit a milestone in January with our first GA-class article, Speed Monster! This shows just how easy it is improve articles by including references and increasing readability. Collaboration has got off to a good start, with the first chosen article, Arrow Dynamics, improving enough to reach B-class. The following articles reached GA-class or B-class quality during January: |
Amusement Parks Portal
The Amusement Parks Portal reached featured portal status during January! You can still nominate articles for the selected content sections on the portal. |
Membership News
During January the WikiProject was joined by 6 new members, bringing the total number up to 55. A very warm welcome to Etf, CPGACoast, RickMarkestein, Emackert, Onewayroad2home and Suttna08. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments.
A discussion is taking place regarding the best way to organise information about roller coaster records and the history of roller coasters. All members' opinions are welcomed; the discussion can be found here.

Article Improvement Drive
This month's Article Improvement Drive: Roller coaster
Why not start at the top?! The main article is already at B class and, with a little help, isn't too far away from GA class. Please see the collaboration page for further information. Any suggestions for March's Article Improvement Drive can be brought up on the talk page, so if there's a particular article you feel could benefit from more input then feel free to suggest it. |
...and finally... Once again, thanks for reading! As always suggestions and offers of help are much appreciated. |

TfD nomination of Template:911ct supporters
[edit]Template:911ct supporters has been nominated for deletion by Ice Cold Beer. As this TfD nomination includes objections to the same list of people that is currently in use in Template:911ct, I am inviting you to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. (I am sending this message to you as a current or former editor of Martin Sheen, following the guideline on multiple messages.) Regards — Cs32en 11:24, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Sequoia vs. Giant Sequoia
[edit]It is a common mistake to place the Inland Redwood or Giant Sequoia in the place of the Coast Redwood or Sequoia (Sempervirons). Your effort at disambiguation is helpful but you have inadvertently placed the Giant Sequoia on the Coast, which is in error. I have made corrections in three articles that I "watch." AfD nomination of Theme Time Radio Hour: Second Countdown
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Theme Time Radio Hour: Second Countdown. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Theme Time Radio Hour: Second Countdown. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
WikiProject Zoo
[edit]I would like to know if you are still an active participant in the WP:ZOO, If you are please confirm by way of responding on my talk page. I am just trying to get an idea of how many people are still engaged in the project as to better work out how to manage and address things that are listed in the project. Kind Regards ZooPro 13:55, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Mentorship Committee
[edit]I'm contacting you because your name is listed at Wikipedia:Meetup/Utah.
Please consider reviewing my edit at Wikipedia:Mentorship#Unintended consequences. In the search for a mentor deemed acceptable by ArbCom, I view this as a useful context for discussing what I have in mind.
There is no obvious congruence between your editing interests and mine, but perhaps the disjunction presents a novel opportunity.
Will you consider looking into whether you might agree to join others in a Mentorship Committee which advises me?
- In any case -- even if you are disinclined to pursue the primary thrust of this diff, I wonder if I might be able to tweak your curiosity with an article about 95-year-old Patrick Lennox Tierney? He is a Japanologist academic in the field of art history, an emeritus professor of the University of Utah, a former Curator of Japanese Art at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and a former Commissioner of Art and Monuments during the Allied Occupation of Japan (1945-1952). I think this elderly man still lives near the University. Tierney came to my attention because the Japanese government conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon in 2007.
- Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Tierney's life concerns his work for the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP), Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Tierney's office was near MacArthur's suite in SCAP headquarters. Tierney was an eyewitness on the day Emperor Hirohito came to offer a formal apology; but when the emperor arrived, MacArthur refused to admit him or acknowledge him. Issues which might have been addressed were allowed to remain open, with consequences which unfolded across the decades which followed. In 2006, Tierney made an effort to explain his understanding of what he had personally observed: "Apology is a very important thing in Japan. With us, we don't apologize unless we get caught with our hand in the cookie jar, but for the Japanese, there is a very strong sense of what an apology means." According to popular historian Herbert Bix in Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan, "MacArthur's truly extraordinary measures to save Hirohito from trial as a war criminal had a lasting and profoundly distorting impact on Japanese understanding of the lost war."
Among a prospective mentor's many burdens, the most difficult would involve (a) helping me discern why or when I should apologize or (b) helping me to explain why or when I will not apologize in a wiki-context. --Tenmei (talk) 02:24, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Davehi1. Recently, the Amusement Parks WikiProject was reformatted and revived. As part of this process other related WikiProjects (such as Disneyland, Herschend Family Entertainment, Universal Parks & Resorts and Walt Disney World) were also revived and have now become part of the Amusement Park WikiProject as task forces. If you would like to remain listed as a member on these WikiProjects please re-add your name to the appropriate lists at the participants page. All names currently on the list have been cleared. Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
[edit]I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:17, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
