If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Earl Jam requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Why your band's page won't be allowed here

[edit]

Dave, you seem to be insistent on a) creating a page about your band, and b) refusing to listen to the advice you've been given about that. Now, admittedly, you've received a lot of notices here, and sometimes the amount of flak can make it hard to actually understand the problems, so let's see if some calm discussion can resolve the problem.

First of all, Wikipedia is not a place for everything. Some topics just don't merit inclusion. We're building an encyclopedia here, not a random directory of stuff people find intersting. To that end, the community has agreed on a set of inclusion criteria, and has refined those criteria for different subject areas. You are writing about a band, so the relevant criteria are defined at WP:BAND. The criteria are pretty well defined to determine which bands are allowed to be included and which aren't. Your band doesn't meet any of the criteria listed at WP:BAND. The reason for these criteria isn't to be elitist, but rather to assure that there are likely to be reliable sources from which editors can verify the information in the article. As an encyclopedia, we want to make sure that the facts we publish are true, and if we can't verify the facts from reliable sources, we can't have the article.

Second of all, we discourage people from writing about the things that they themselves are involved in (in this case, your own band). It is very difficult to maintain the proper level of neutrality when writing about the things we love and are passionate about, and clearly, you are passionate about your band. That's cool -- why would you be in the band if you weren't passionate about it? But it really doesn't help us here at Wikipedia to build a neutral encyclopedia. Perhaps you need to find another venue to write about your band.

Third of all, we absolutely do not allow Wikipedia to be used to promote anyone or anything, and your article looks a lot like an ad for your band.

I hope these explanations have clarified why your band can't have an article here. I also know that you have been warned that if you continue to try to create this article, you will probably be blocked. I would recommend that you give up this effort. If you really want to write at Wikipedia, why not try improving the articles that are already here. As a passionate musician, you probably have some useful knowledge to add. You are very close to being indefinitely blocked. You have now created this article 11 times under 6 different names. If you do not stop you will be blocked. I tried to explain the same things as WikiDan61 when we were discussing this on my talk page and you said then that you needed to find something else to edit. Find something else to edit and do not create the article again. GB fan 16:18, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
