A lengthy welcome

Hi Darth-X-President. Welcome to Wikipedia. I've added a welcome message to the top of this page that gives a great deal of information about Wikipedia. I hope you find it useful.

Additionally, I hope you don't mind if I share some of my thoughts on starting out as a new editor on Wikipedia: If I could get editors in your situation to follow just one piece of advice, it would be this: Learn Wikipedia by working only on non-contentious topics until you have a feel for the normal editing process and the policies that usually come up when editing casually. You'll find editing to be fun, easy, and rewarding. The rare disputes are resolved quickly and easily.

Working on biographical information about living persons is far more difficult. Wikipedia's Biographies of living persons policy requires strict adherence to multiple content policies, and applies to all information about living persons including talk pages.

If you have a relationship with the topics you want to edit, then you will need to review Wikipedia's Conflict of interest policy, which may require you to disclose your relationship and restrict your editing depending upon how you are affiliated with the subject matter. Regardless, editing in a manner that promotes an entity or viewpoint over others can appear to be detrimental to the purpose of Wikipedia and the neutrality required in articles.

Some topic areas within Wikipedia have special editing restrictions that apply to all editors. It's best to avoid these topics until you are extremely familiar with all relevant policies and guidelines.

If you work from reliable, independent sources, you shouldn't go far wrong. WP:RSP and WP:RSN are helpful in determining if a source is reliable.

Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus. This includes making page moves while a discussion remains underway. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Maintenance templates

Concerning this edit, please do not change the dates in maintenance templates. Those dates let us know how long the article has been marked as unreferenced, which in your edit is a difference of 10 years. This lets people make a decision on what can be deleted if it's been marked for a longer period. I.e. in this case you marking it as June 2020 makes someone think of that's fine there's time. Whereas the correct date of 10 years ago makes someone think, well if there are no references after 10 years we can just delete the whole thing. Based on the explanation you offered and demonstration of understanding of the issue I believe you're eligible to have this good block lifted. That said, in point of clarification, the issue was not that you "upset" any single editor, it was that you upset the stability of the encyclopedia. But I don't think it's worthwhile to drag this out on questions of semantics. Also, note that it would be a good idea to check your Talk page anytime the new message icon is illuminated, not just at some predetermined cadence or frequency. Please do not cite the IMDb or copy its data into Wikipedia. Because its content is user-generated, it's not a reliable source and can not be used for citations on Wikipedia. Box Office Mojo are The Numbers commonly used for box office grosses and budgets, but you can sometimes find them at Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and TheWrap.
