Curiosity

[edit]

Looking at your user page, it appears the only reason for this registered account is to participate in meta areas without disclosing your regular account/IP. From my experience, this probably isn't a good idea as it may look like evading scrutiny. Dennis Brown / / © / @ 03:58, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per the "privacy" clause of WP:SOCK, I have every right to use a registered account to hide my I.P. from the drama boards. People are free to bleat about "avoiding scrutiny", I'll happily bleat back "privacy". If you'd like to continue this passive-aggressive bullying, feel free - it just further illustrates the need for such otherwise-silly measures. Why do you think it more necessary to hide your IP from the "drama" boards relative to your other editing? I'm just curious about your rationale, not badgering or anything like that... 86.121.18.17 (talk) 21:32, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The image upload / editing procedure here is incredibly complex, and the File Upload Wizard just seems to make it more convoluted and obfuscated.

Anyway, I've already lost interest in trying to do what I wanted to do, so maybe someone with a greater tolerance for tedium than myself can fix this: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:M04_0910.jpg is the link.

1) The image should not have a "caption" (per WP:WATERMARK), and should be cropped to remove this.

2) The image is incorrectly tagged as pd-self - unless User:Ricnun was launched along with Mariner 4, this should probably be tagged as pd-<whatever>, where "<whatever>" is whatever applicable rationale applies to images released into the public domain by virtue of being from NASA.

Please drop me a line if you need any clarification, and do let me know if there's a way to disable the File Upload Wizard - it just gets in the way, really piss-poor design, obfuscating the actual "true" upload page & logs makes it impossible to tell if a redlink image in articlespace is redlinked due to 1) the file being deleted, 2) the file being renamed, or 3) the image never existed and is thus likely to be a typo. Over an hour without a reply. Hah. Daret Masampullmor (talk) 19:12, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Commons is a separate project; asking for help with a Commons image over there might be more promising than asking here. I expect the copyright tag is correct; the original uploader, User:Ricnun, is likely the R. Nunes listed as "Mosaic and processing by". The original Mariner images are works by the US government and thus PD; this derivative work is PD-self by the creator.
To upload to Wikipedia without the File Upload Wizard you can use Special:Upload. The Commons has its own equivalent, commons:Special:Upload. Huon (talk) 22:28, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
