Sorry for this, Dantesjuice. Above is one of our Welcome messages that you'll probably find useful, because it has lots of links to help you figure out how things work around here.

Don't worry about your draft article. I have set up what we call a "sandbox" attached to your userpage, and copied over the content of the article there. You can reach it by clicking on User:Dantesjuice/Sandbox. Once you have seen that I really did move it all, I suggest you remove everything but the deletion notice from your userpage, and another administrator will close the deletion page.

I am a little busy just at the moment, but will be happy to help you later on if you like. Again, sorry for this harsh greeting. Risker (talk) 16:01, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well i have to admit, i was a bit startled when i saw the notice, my first thoughts were "o crap, who did i offend" and "wow, its not even done and its already being removed!" lol I totally understand that this is a professional project and the magnitude of wikipedia, iv been a huge fan for years and visit the site daily, but yeah, a "hello nice to meet you...by the way your using your user page incorrectly" would of been nice lol winks

Thanks for the sandbox, i really appreciate it and see that all the content appears to have been copied. i'll delete the current content on my user page now and start putting up my own personal info.

thanks again =)--Dantesjuice (talk) 16:13, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dantesjuice, I've closed the debate on your userpage as Speedy Close, as you've moved the content to the sandbox, per Risker. You can add a link to that sandbox on your userpage, if you wish, or other links you might want to have handy while editing. There are templates and formatting items you can use as well (my userpage might be an example), if you so choose. Again, sorry for any confusion. Best to you, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 16:31, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Is this page an article you're working on? Taking a quick glance, I see nothing to indicate this is an article we could ever use here. If this content is not Wikipedia-related, consider putting it on your own website rather than here. Wikipedia is not meant to be a free web host. Unless the band has gotten significant media coverage, there's no way we can have an article on it here. Friday (talk) 17:14, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Awww man, now im REALLY confused. I thought the purpose of wikipedia was..

"Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race."

like a "time capsule" that contains things from the past, present and possible future. Im just trying to leave my little mark on history regarding my band. Nowhere in my band article is there any promoting or any attempts to generate revenue.

i guess iv COMPLETLY missunderstood the entire idea of wikipedia, and i wasnt aware that my band had to be signed or have world recognition before it would be allowed into the wikipedia record books...on the contrary, i thought that was the purpose of the wikipedia project, to allow people to submit knowledge regarding certain subjects for the rest of the world to view?--Dantesjuice (talk) 17:42, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, we get this all the time. It's very easy for people to misunderstand our mission here. Wikipedia is first and foremost an educational resource. We're collecting human knowledge, but we really mean established human knowledge, rather than something I just invented 5 minutes ago, for example. There are wikis more along the lines of what you've described. But, here at Wikipedia, verifiability is a core content policy. This means we use sources.
How do we know what actually leaves a mark on history? Well, let's look at what historians write. If historians are writing about your band 20 years from now, you've done what you wanted, and you'll be in Wikipedia. But we can't skip that step. We don't do what we call "original research" here- we use established sources instead. Hope this helps. Friday (talk) 19:02, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
