Re: Jim Longhi
[edit]Thanks for your message. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and subjects of articles need to be notable. An editor tagged the Jim Longhi article as an "A7 bio", which is to say that it lacked an assertion of notability. I reviewed the request, agreed, and deleted it as such. The article only said that Longhi is a lawyer from New York who wrote a book about his experiences in the Merchant Marines with Woody Guthrie and Cisco Houston. I'm not saying that Jim Longhi isn't notable (all I know about him is what the article said), but I am saying that the article does not explain if, how or why he is notable in his field. These guidelines might help you address this issue with the article: Wikipedia:Notability (people) and Wikipedia:Notability (books). Also, this had nothing to do with the deletion, but will take this opportunity to let you know that there was an additional problem with the first version which said, "It offers a fascinatingly rare first hand glimpse into the lives of these two folk legends." This is editorial comment and it is not acceptable on Wikipedia as we must write in an encyclopedic and neutral point of view. I hope that answers your questions, if not, please feel free to leave another message. Regards, Sarah 05:00, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
This article has reached "Good Article" status! Hopefully we can get it looking better with a few more references and a little polishing. —Gaff ταλκ 08:03, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Wikiproject Oklahoma Newsletter
[edit]Greetings! Your name has been mentioned on this month's Wikiproject Oklahoma newsletter "The WikiOkie Reporter":
The WikiOkie Reporter WikiProject Oklahoma's Newsletter |
Your second or third stop for WikiProject Oklahoma News |
WikiProject Oklahoma releases new newsletter September 2007 brings a new face to WikiProject Oklahoma: a newsletter. As in all of Wikipedia, the new WikiOkie Reporter (tenative name) is intended to be a collaborative effort among editors. Anyone can edit it: this month's newsletter is placed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Oklahoma/newsletter/aug07, but next month's will be placed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Oklahoma/newsletter/oct07, with the following month at /newsletter/nov07, and so on. While this month's article's were initially written by User:Okiefromokla, it is hoped other editors will be excited to contribute to articles, content, layout, and ideas. This is a completely new child of WikiProject Oklahoma, and it should reflect the collaborative work of everyone who's bored and has nothing to do for a few minutes. As such, anything can be discussed here: anything - layout, color scheme, pictures, content, etc. The behind-the-scenes workings for the WikiOkie Reporter will be simple: anyone wishing to receive the newsletter in their talk page may place their name at sign-up list, but they are more than free to remove their name from the same list at any time. Anyone wishing to discuss ideas or anything at all related to the newsletter may look no further than here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Oklahoma/newsletter/talk. Several WikiProjects already have ongoing newsletters, including Wikipedia: WikiProject North Dakota, from which WikiProject Oklahoma's newsletter has been based. For the time being, Okiefromokla will assume distribution responsibilities for the newsletter, maintaining the template, and writing articles from scratch if other editors have not done so by the 1st of the month. Promotions on the rise For many Wikipedians, summer is a time to kick back, relax, and make an occasional minor edit to their favorite few pages. Not so in WikiProject Oklahoma. Between May 12 and September, editors have been busily working on Oklahoma, Tulsa, and Woody Guthrie, and all three have been promoted. Prior to May, there were only seven Featured or Good articles in WikiProject Oklahoma. On May 12, Tulsa was promoted from B-class to FA class after a few months of extensive editing. Its primary editors were User:Nmajdan, User:SandyGeorgia, User:Okiefromokla, and a handful of others. On August 25, Oklahoma was promoted from B-class to FA class after a month-long blitz. User:Okiefromokla, User: SandyGeorgia, and several anonymous IPs contributed heavily to the article. On June 13, 2007, Woody Guthrie was promoted from B-Class to GA class after two failed attempts at promotion. User:Dannygutters, User:Gaff, User:Maenpong, and a handful of others contributed most to the article.
This month's task: Assess articles! Check out all these unassessed articles to help out!
The WikiProject Oklahoma newsletter is a work in progress so please share your ideas about how the newsletter can be improved. |

Woody Guthrie external links
[edit]So sorry that I put a duplicate link to the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival! I thought I looked carefully at the list! I just started the article for the festival a few days ago and have a accomplished a good bit, but still have a long way to go. Eventually plan to add lots more detail about individual performances. All in good time. :-) Kmzundel 13:55, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Yes, definitely attach to the Chicago project and any folk music project. Shsilver 18:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Hello. I see that you are a member of Wikiproject Roots Music, and I am hoping you can answer a question for me. How do I get the Murder ballads aricle listed as part of said Wikiproject? The article certainly falls within the projects bailiwick, and it is in need of some attention. Another editor (K. Scott Bailey) and I are just beginning some editorial work. But, if this had the attention of the project, I am sure that would help. Thanks for your time. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:49, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Done and done! Thanks for the reply. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 17:57, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
David Amram's Woody Guthrie symphony

Woody FA review
[edit]Danny, I strongly suggest asking for Peer Review. In the meantime, I will go through and edit for style inconsistencies. Kmzundel (talk) 18:01, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm going through the article paragraph by paragraph doing much-needed style edits. Kmzundel (talk) 18:48, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- Dan, do you want me to request a Peer Review for Woody Guthrie? Kmzundel (talk) 16:51, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Dan, I just requested Peer Review. It's suggested that we personally ask for volunteers to review the article. Do you want to ask a few folks who might be interested in helping? See "Nomination Procedure" on WP:PR. Kmzundel (talk) 19:14, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Dan, did you see that there's a reply regarding the Peer Review request? Offering an "automated review"? I'm not sure what do do since I don't know what that's about. Feel free to do whatever. Kmzundel 11:22, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Woody Guthrie Peer Review
[edit]Dan, two persons have graciously responded to our request for Peer Review of the WG article and have provided LOTS of constructive feedback. We have our work cut out for us now. Kmzundel (talk) 02:55, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Dan, good work responding to the peer review suggestions. Sorry I have not had time to help the last couple days. Nice to see the Foundation with its own article. Why did you cut some of the Tributes? I think they should stay - they weren't excessive, IMHO. Kmzundel (talk) 03:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Remember that the peer review suggetions are just that - suggestions. I do agree that the "songs about woody" was too list-y and doesn't improve the article, but I think the Tributes are relevant. Besides - there's not *that* many of them. Do you want me to return the others? (I have time today.) Kmzundel (talk) 14:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yikes! I just saw that you already returned all the Tributes! Excellent! :-) Kmzundel (talk) 14:35, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Woody trivia
[edit]I agree about the Boomtown Rats and Joe Strummer statements. (Those were not things that I added.) I would suggest removing them or possibly putting them in a new Trivia section...although I just checked 3 music biography Feature Articles and none have a trivia section. Alison Krauss, Nick Drake, Celine Dion. Kmzundel (talk) 18:47, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Woody Guthrie FAC
[edit]Dan, our FAC is looking good! I've addressed just about everything.....still looking for some info about the Asch recordings per comment. Kmzundel (talk) 15:20, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Did you see Quadell's latest comment about including an ogg file of "this land"? Can you handle that? Kmzundel (talk) 16:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- hmm is this still an issue? I thought I updated the this land ogg a while back. I'll check it--Dannygutters (talk · contribs)
- It looks like he is suggesting the *entire* song - not just a sample. At least that's how I interpreted his comment. Kmzundel (talk) 17:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- hmm is this still an issue? I thought I updated the this land ogg a while back. I'll check it--Dannygutters (talk · contribs)
This land... .ogg Make sure that the recording itself is public domain. The EFF only attests that the sheet music is public domain and not any individual recordings. Most of them probably weren't properly renewed... but, we will still need to (somehow) provide some evidence of that. gren グレン 13:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

- Dan, Sorry I've been away from the computer today. Having just seen the "oppose" all I can say is thank goodness we had the Peer Review. One challenge when an article has multiple authors/editors is that inconsistencies in the format of citations and references is gonna happen. I'll try to help on Monday (Sunday will be bad for me too) if certain things still need to be addressed. Kmzundel (talk) 00:37, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- yep a lot of nitpickey things, too bad those refrences are so hard to edit all at once. Anyway, i'll work on the citations, you don't have a copy of the Woody Cisco and Me book do you? I cited that one originally but i lent my copy out so i don't have one right now.

- Dan, the format of refs 89-105 needs to be reverse so that Folkways (or whatever) comes first. I looked at it, but it's in a table or something and I'm not sure how to go about making the changes so I'll leave it to you. Kmzundel (talk) 14:29, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Almanac Singers Johndoe.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Almanac Singers Johndoe.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Both Tonelli-Shanks and Cipolla's modular square root algorithms can handle powers of prime modula (not just primes)
[edit]I looked up Dickson's History of Numbers vol 1 p215(Tonelli) and p218(Cipolla) and Dickson clearly shows that both modular square root algorithms can handle powers of prime modula (whereas the Wiki articles say they can only do prime modula).
I've updated the TALK pages of both articles with the relevant Dickson math, along with numeric runthroughs with Mathematica code.
However, I am not a professional mathematician so I hesitate to update the articles.
Perhaps yourself, or someone else in the Computer science field could update the relevant articles with this information from Dickson.
