[edit]

Hi Dank, I'm looking at the mw:Desktop improvements project. They want to change the default width of content, to make it more comfortable to read. This isn't an inherently bad idea – nobody wants small type to run across the entire width of a meter-wide screeen – but the details matter. Right now, I'm typing in a monospace font, and I get 120 characters to the line. When I'm reading, in a san serif font, I get about 140 characters to the line. I'm not sure how many pixels that equates to, but it wouldn't exactly matter, because the zoom and my minimum font size means that my pixels don't match anyone else's pixels anyway.

Would you mind pinging me with the number of characters you see per line (or the number you'd like to see)? Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:21, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I typically use a zoom of 120% these days, so that the message you just posted has an average count of 152 characters per line. I don't really have a preference. - Dank (push to talk) 17:44, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 03:08, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Found a mistake

[edit]

Had a look at your list; one small mistake, not your fault: The picture of Begonia festiva is misidentified, that's actually a B. tuberosa hybrid cultivar. It might be called 'Festiva', but that name violates the cultivar naming rules: it is no longer acceptable to use Latin for cultivars. The rule was adopted so people wouldn't get confused with actual species... as is happening right now! Leo Breman (talk) 11:47, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic, thanks for looking. John picked most of the images, and he was just saying yesterday that that one is his favorite! I'm excited that that's all you found. - Dank (push to talk) 13:56, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your work on these awards, Gerda. - Dank (push to talk) 14:05, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's pure pleasure. Can't say the same of all other tasks here ;) - but am pleased about the TFL on 21 August, and TFA 1 September, - content with content, and both of these in memory of Brian who should be a model to us all. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:31, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
