- Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia
- Respect copyrights – do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view – this is one of Wikipedia's core policies.
- Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page and follow Wikipedia's Biography of Living Persons policy. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced with multiple reliable sources.
- No edit warring or sock puppetry.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Deliberately adding such content or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism; doing so will result in your account or IP being blocked from editing.
- Do not use talk pages as discussion or forum pages as Wikipedia is not a forum.
The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!
thank you for your message but mahmoud kahil.com copied the wiki page details so it is other way around i have written the original unique info on wiki first help ?
Hello Danatrometer,
It seems to me that an article you worked on, Mahmoudkahil, may be copied from http://www.mahmoudkahil.com/biography.php. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.
It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.
Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 17:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Mahmoudkahil
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mahmoudkahil requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wikipedia:Mahmoudkahil
[edit]I see no point in continuing to edit Wikipedia:Mahmoudkahil. The article contains the same copyright violation as Mahmoudkahil that has already been deleted, and you have created it in the project space (the Wikipedia: prefix) rather than in article space. Articles do not belong in project space; that is reserved for content about creating and maintaining the encyclopedia. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:05, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Next time...
[edit]Please write it in your own fresh and unpublished words. We cannot accept text that is published elsewhere. (Exceptions are certain government departments, stuff that is public domain because the author died more than 75 years ago, and stuff licensed under CC-BY-SA.) Wikipedia is licensed under CC-BY-SA for free reuse anywhere by anyone. If text is not licensed or free, it is an infringement of the copyright if people reuse it. As text from the site is copyright to (now) the estate of Mahmoud Kahil or an heir, it is going to be far easier to rewrite than to get the text licensed. Licensing can only be done by the owner of the copyright. I feel that he is most probably notable enough for an article, so if you do try again, I'd advise putting it at User:Danatrometer/DRAFT first, and then asking for an opinion. Good luck. - You don't need to email me - you can contact me on my talk page at Wikipedia. The copyright notice on the site is in the name of Mahmoud Kahil, so you may find it hard to show that you hold the copyright. I can't check the permissions email as I am not allowed to. That is only the staff who work with the permissions that deal with those things. Sorry - you'll have to talk to them or to User:Moonriddengirl or User:VernoWhitney who are amongst our top people on copyright. Peridon (talk) 18:58, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Fixing issues with Mahmoud Kahil
[edit]Greetings, as you're new to Wiki there are a few things that needed fixing on Mahmoud Kahil. You appear to be unclear on how WP:Footnotes and WP:Wikilinks work, so a quick read of those instructions may help you. "Wikilinks" are the blue clickable words, so there is no need to create a footnote saying "http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Lebanon" when instead you can just put brackets around the word, like this [[Lebanon]]
will result in Lebanon. Nice and easy.
WP:Footnotes, on the other hand, are not for observational comments unrelated to the Kahil (like what year a newspaper was founded), nor to replace wikilinks. They are for specific evidence, like links to a book or article that substantiates a fact about Kahil. It shows the reader "here's an authoritative place you can go to find verification for this fact". That's why they tell people not to cite Wikipedia directly, but follow back to the sources, which they cannot do if the writer doesn't clearly link his sources.
Lastly, it's my understanding that Kahil is your father. While discouraged, it's not forbidden to write about relatives, but you must write a WP:Neutral article. It can't be a obituary, praise, etc, it must be neutral and dispassionate. While you can say "he won XYZ award in 1972" (a fact), you can't say "he was a wonderful man" (opinion).
To make the article more useful and credible, I strongly advise you take a few looks through it to make sure it's all fact and not opinion, and that you provide some kind of footnote to substantiate each claim. Feel free to reply to me here, just post the following code: {{tb|User talk:Danatrometer}}
