Adoption Request
[edit]Hi. I see you have requested adoption and I am seeking to adopt. Please take a look at my userpage and see if I am a good fit to be your mentor. If you agree to be adopted by me, then let me know on my talk page by clicking the "+" symbol at the top of the page and letting me know. If not, I would still be glad to answer any questions you have at any time. Welcome to Wikipedia! --MECU≈talk 15:49, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Great! I've changed the template on your userpage. To get started, I'd like you to answer some questions as I think they will allow me to better direct you (there are no wrong answers, you'll get 100% if you answer them all!):
- What you want to get out of adoption?
- What you want to accomplish here at Wikipedia?
- What you like to do here on Wikipedia?
- What are your problems at Wikipedia?
- If you have any specific problems or questions I can answer now.
- I'm hoping to avoid making mistakes involving Wikipedia "culture". I don't want to waste my time getting involved in Wikipedia edit wars. I'd like a resource to go to both when I'm not sure of the right way to do things, and to figure out the right way to correct a mistake, or resolve an issue.
- Provide input on pages where I either have personal knowledge/interests (e.g. folk music) or professional knowledge (e.g. Multiprotocol Label Switching or Routing Protocols).
- Not quite sure what this is asking. "Get information" would be my first answer.
- None yet, other than figuring out all the cultural assumptions in changing content.
- Two immediate questions:
- Is this is the right way to respond to something like this, i.e. editing in the responses inline on my Talk page? If so, is there a formating code that allows inserting indented text into a numbered list w/o breaking the numbering. IOW, when I first tried responding I interwove the responses below each of your questions, but that caused the numbering to restart at (1).
- I'm trying to understand the requirements for uploading images. Should images be only uploaded by the image owner, or is it ok to have a documented copyright authorization. For example, if I wanted to add an image to a band web site, and got permission to use one of their press photos, would that be ok, or would the band (owner) need to do the upload?
- DanTappan 17:16, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- Please feel free to contact me at any time for any reason. AIM information is on my user page and I'm on the IRC channels if you want to contact me that way. You can't bug me enough. Any "little" thing you want to know or have a problem with, I will be happy to answer; if I don't know the answer, I know people who will. Again, welcome to Wikipedia! --MECU≈talk 14:16, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've dropped you from the adoption program because you are inactive (1 edit in 6 weeks). You are most certainly welcome to stay or even rejoin the adoption program, but you should be a little more active. In response to your questions above:
- The "right" way to respond to talk page comments is to goto the other user's talk page, unless you state on your talk page that you will respond here (some do this, but not many). Anyone can upload any image. That is, you don't need to be the owner to upload the image. However, the copyright holder should be known, a source always given. You also said "received permission" to use the image on Wikipedia. We don't just want images, we want free images. You should follow WP:COPYREQ for requesting licensing from third parties. It is important to get an email stating the specific license they want (such as "GFDL-self"). Good luck, and if you decide to become more active, I'd be happy to adopt you again, or just answer questions you have. --MECU≈talk 13:28, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:GMSCoDSuddenlyItsChristmas.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:GMSCoDSuddenlyItsChristmas.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 18:12, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:GMSCoDFRFF06CDCover.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:GMSCoDFRFF06CDCover.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:57, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:GandalfMurphy-TheGreatUnravelCover.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GandalfMurphy-TheGreatUnravelCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 01:07, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ancient Murphy Greatest Hits of the 20th Century Vol. 1, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://cdbaby.com/cd/gandalf5. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. CWii(Talk|Contribs) 01:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
That was an automated bot notice caused by the fact that I uploaded the album cover image before saving out the associated album page. The fair use information was otherwise correct, or at least it was in a format which I believe follows the guidelines and has been accepted for other album covers. As such I don't believe it was a legitimate 'speedy deletion' notice and adding the 'hangon' template would simply create unnecessary review work. DanTappan (talk) 02:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:GMSCoDSuddenlyItsChristmas.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:GMSCoDSuddenlyItsChristmas.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 05:30, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable fair use File:LesSampouPRPic sm.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:LesSampouPRPic sm.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Storkk (talk) 11:03, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

The article The Enemies Dance has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non notable album released by a non notable band
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Cardiffbear88 (talk) 22:24, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
