You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Rd232 talk 22:51, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of David-Seth Kirshner

[edit]

The article David-Seth Kirshner has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

notability needs to be demonstrated with reliable, independent sources

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rd232 talk 22:53, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

[edit]

Rabbi Kirshner (I am assuming, from your user name, that you are he), Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions in the article about yourself. I would like to help you get it into a format more consistent with standard Wikipedia articles but will wait until you have finished your editing. The content of the article looks pretty good with one exception: one of the "pillars" of Wikipedia is that articles have a neutral point of view (NPOV). Specifically, we do not praise or condemn but, rather, present the facts and allow the readers to form opinions. It seems to me that statements like A natural leader, charismatic speaker and magnetic personality, Rabbi Kirshner embodies the best in the Jewish people and is an important figure in shaping the Conservative Jewish world cross over that line. A related issue is that, to avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest, it is better that people not edit articles about themselves. This rule is not quite as hard-and-fast as the NPOV one, but I think the Kirshner article would benefit if you stepped back and allowed others to write it. Of course, your input would be welcome on the article's talk page, especially insofar as you can point to published sources (preferably, but not necessarily, available on the web) for the information in the Wikipedia article. It seems to me that the article would be more interesting if it looked less like a resume and had more about you, what you have accomplished and would like to accomplish in your communities, etc. For example, your comments about Ghanaian funeral coffins and your work at Riverside Memorial Chapel both pique my interest, and neither of these are mentioned in the Wikipedia article. If I am mistaken, and you are not Rabbi Kirshner, please accept my apology. Either way, I hope the suggestions I have made prove helpful. Again, thanks. Shabbat shalom (though you will probably not see this until afterwards) and shavua tov. Peter Chastain (talk) 23:49, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I see that others have made comments while I was composing my own. For the most part, I agree, except that I would tend to argue against the proposed deletion. Peter Chastain (talk) 23:49, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on David-Seth Kirshner requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mtking (edits) 09:54, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
