Welcome
[edit]Hi DaisyCarpenter7, welcome to Wikipedia! Below this message I'll leave a welcome template with a lot of useful links. One fun fact first though. Did you know that Wikipedia is unreliable according to Wikipedia's own rules? Wikipedia doesn't trust sources that anyone can edit :) I hope you enjoy your time here! That was such a useful fact, Howicus, but does that mean that Wikipedia wants people to think that it's unreliable on purpose? So the only people who know it's reliable are it's editors? DaisyCarpenter7 (talk) 12:37, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia!
[edit]Hello, DaisyCarpenter7. Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions. My name is Howicus, and I've been an editor here for some time. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:
- Introduction and Getting started
- Contributing to Wikipedia
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page and How to develop articles
- How to create your first article
- Simplified Manual of Style
If you're working on creating a new article, you should take a look at this page on your first article, and use the article wizard here to get started. Also, this page has instructions on how to cite sources, complete with videos.
If all this Wikicode is a little overwhelming, this cheatsheet may help untangle it.
If you're looking for a tutorial of sorts, The Wikipedia Adventure is a good option.
And if you need more help, I'd recommend asking at the Teahouse (a help page for new users). Or, you could try getting live help at the Wikipedia help chat channel: click here to join. Additionally, you could ask me on my talk page, or click here to ask for help here on your talk page and a volunteer will visit you here shortly
Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Again, welcome, and have fun editing! Howicus (Did I mess up?) 02:42, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
You are so kind. I'm really glad you to took the time to write such a heart-warming welcome letter just for me. You totally made my day. It's weird how the smallest act of kindness is the best that anyone can ever get from a person. From picking up a pencil you dropped on the hallway to greeting you with a hello every time you walk past. I do have a question though. Why do we have to to put four tildes for you to sign your messages. Don't they already say it's from you automatically? Do I have to do it when I finish what I have to say or what? DaisyCarpenter7 (talk) 03:10, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
My mistake. I spelled though wrong. I can't seem to find a way to fix it though. DaisyCarpenter7 (talk) 03:12, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi DaisyCarpenter7. I couldn't tell you why it works, but the four tildes are a requirement for a user's signature to appear. Generally, you should sign your posts on talk pages, because it makes it easy to identify who wrote what in discussions. Regarding the typo, you should be able to edit your talk page posts like you would an article. No big deal though. :) Howicus (Did I mess up?) 03:24, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, Howicus. You are such a big help. :) DaisyCarpenter7 (talk) 12:25, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
I'd like to bring your attention to WP:NOTFORUM where it says, in part, that article talk pages exist solely to discuss how to improve articles. Please keep discussion in talk pages (yours included) exclusively for article improvement; it's not the place to be discussing your personal opinions just like you did here, or dictating what userboxes editors include in their userpages like you did here—that's none of your business, to say the least. Patience, Slightlymad (talk) 08:59, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'm sincerely very sorry. I will rewrite my talk page, having your words in mind. I will not do that again.DaisyCarpenter7 (talk) 12:02, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
- Why did you remove the content of your userpage? I never said (or forced you) to remove your personal interests from your userpage; I only said that you shouldn't discuss them in Wikipedia because editors should only focus on building an encyclopedia. If you're serious in being a regular contributor here, please read the rules first. I reverted the content of your userpage, as you may have missed the point that I was trying to make.
