Ivan Asen II
[edit]I reverted your addition to Ivan Asen II. Yes, I believe his father may have been of Vlach origin (his mother probably not) but it is not 100 per cent certain, and therefore it would be wrong to add it, as if it was an undoubted fact, to the first sentence of Ivan Asen II. It would need more discussion. As you may have seen, the issue is discussed at Asen dynasty (also at Vlach-Bulgarian Rebellion). Andrew Dalby 11:53, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- He actually WAS a vlach as he alone recognised in a letter to the Pope Innocent III. The Pope himself told him: As you are from vlach origins...
- Thank you for replying! The Pope recognised Ivan Asen's "Roman" origin (he did not say Vlach, unless I'm mistaken). I agree with you that this may in practice be the same thing -- it probably is. But since Ivan Asen II also claimed to inherit from the First Bulgarian Empire, and since we do not know what information was available to the Pope which made him say what he did, we still cannot state it simply as a proven fact. However, it would be quite right to include mention of these details in the article -- the statement made by the Pope about Roman origins, and the claim to inherit from the Bulgarians -- both details, not just one! Do you want to do that, or shall I? Andrew Dalby 11:31, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Don't mention it! ;)... well... I leave it up to you! And the word vlach is used in the letter... I have read it.
The Romanian forum and more
[edit]Hello, I noticed that you are a Romanian Wikipedian, and thought you'd might be interested in this Romanian community portal, if you didn't know of it before:
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Romanian_Wikipedian's_notice_board
It's a page for Romanian users and other users working with Romania-related articles. One can ask questions regarding articles, collaborate on various projects, participate in discussions on the talk page and generally gain a better overview regarding the Romania-related articles on the English-language Wikipedia.
Seeing that you support the reunification of Romania and Moldova, I also thought you may also want to express your opinion regarding the future of the Moldovan-language Wikipedia that for the last couple of months has caused a good deal of controversy. You can do that here:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects#Closure_of_Moldovan_Wikipedia
If you're unfamiliar with the situation and don't know of the history surrounding the Moldovan Wikipedia, here's a helpful wrap-up in Romanian:
http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Anun%C5%A3uri
Hope to see you around here in the future.

License tagging for Image:E-oferta.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:E-oferta.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:07, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

- It is not to me you should be explaining this. You have not indicated a source for the picture, you have not proven that the author allows its use here, you have not proven that the law or your reading of it applies to it, and you have used a tag that simply does not apply (since there is nothing in article 9 of the copyright law that would justify this, and the tag uses article 9). Furthermore, you quote from the law is irrelevant, not only because the tag does not refer to it, but because you cannot adequately prove that it was taken during a public event (clue: Teoctist was not a state official for his portrait to be government property, whereas the portrait most likely is a property of the Orthodox Church as an institution), and since it is clearly not a fragment of photograph taken during a public event at which anyone could have taken a photograph. Even if you were right, that photo belongs under fair use, not under public domain.
- I hope this clarifies the matter, because I'd be required to report you here in case you persist in manipulating the tag. Dahn 14:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Commercial use of Image:Regiunile Romaniei 1953.png
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Regiunile Romaniei 1953.png, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Regiunile Romaniei 1953.png has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.
If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.
If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.
If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Regiunile Romaniei 1953.png itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 13:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:RSRhartaadm2.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --ST47Talk·Desk 13:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Non-free use disputed for Image:Romania1950-1952.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Romania1950-1952.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:17, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Kosovo independence CNN.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I do really not appreciate being reverted like a common vandal. At least have the decency to explain why you disagree with me. In a case like this, erring on the side of caution is best- the images have a huge commercial value, so use on Wikipedia is potentially damaging the copyright holders. The situation is ongoing, so images could potentially surface, but, most of all, the images add nothing to the article- text explains what is going on, all they do is show us what various politicians look like when stressed. Orphaned non-free image (Image:RSRhartaadm.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:RSRhartaadm.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Speedy deletion of File:RSRhartaadm.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:RSRhartaadm.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image which is not under a free license or in the public domain and it has not been used in any article for more than seven days.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for File:Rsz harta rpr raioane 1950-52b.svg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Rsz harta rpr raioane 1950-52b.svg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:10, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Al-jazeera.egipt.1.2.2011.tahrir square.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Al-jazeera.egipt.1.2.2011.tahrir square.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 22:56, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
