Conflict of interest warning for editing Christopher Tignor[edit]

Information icon Hello, Ctignor. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. signed, Rosguilltalk 22:56, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello -

If you are Christopher Tignor, then 1. Thank you for making interesting new music, and 2. It's important to understand that, in general, Wikipedia as an institution does not look very kindly on people writing or editing articles about themselves or their own work. Editors tend to look at these changes with a high level of scrutiny, and someone may nominate the page about Tignor for deletion merely because it was created by an account with a conflict of interest as inherently promotional rather than encyclopedic. I think it would survive such a challenge, because Tignor is notable, but it would help to have substantial music journalism to buttress the claims, and for it to be rewritten so that it does not sound like a website biography. If you have links to pieces in major newspapers/magazines/music journalism outlets, perhaps putting them on the talk page would be a good idea, so that someone can later integrate them into the article - I am not sure that I will have the time to do extensive work myself on it.
