D'oh!

[edit]

Could you please move my userboxes on the side coloumn down to my new catagory Userboxes, I'm having so much trouble with this! -- Lego@lost 06:08, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is so confusing!? I did not do that! Ohh... it must have been Kevin Breitenstien, I asked him before to do it, Wow!? I feel dizzy *faints* ;) -- Lego@lost 06:16, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FYI - I undeleted it and provided it with a fair use rationale. Please review if you wish. Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/email 19:07, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You missed an important point in the rationale: why it's not possible to find or create a free-license replacement for the image. --Carnildo 06:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I am not allowed to say you are spreading potentially libelous material, but your are allowed to call people "idiots" and "heretics"? Great system this wikipedia. --Historian2 07:33, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lostpedia Talk Page

[edit]

Hello Crzrussian,

I am wondering if you can provide more information on why Talk:Lostpedia was Deleted and Protected? I'm surprised that SysOps would lock the talk page of a deleted article. In fact, the deleted page itself instructs users to discuss the issue on the article's talk page.

"Please discuss possible changes on the talk page of this article. You can use {{Editprotected}} to request changes."

Thanks in Advance, --Kevincroy 09:19, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is the official policy on protecting the talk page of a deleted article, where that deletion is disputed? Thanks, --Jabrwocky7 22:58, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted the template and restored the history till the speedy notice. Yanksox 00:14, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'll admit I did start typing a weak support then changed my mind. Feel free to check over my other votes though.--Andeh 16:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ORBCW

[edit]

Man, my buddy just asked me the same thing last night!!!

I really don't have the patience and geduld to do it. The very little I have done consumed a lot of time. I'm sure the same happens to others.... and I really appreciate al that time that you (and others) put into this.

For the time being I'll continue being a lurker, rather than active participant -- which is why I respect the 'vote' and only wrote that I was 'tempted' to do it. Of course I did not feel that it was my place to vote on the issue being that I haven't even added the minutest detail about Lakewood Yeshiva/BMG.

See you around :)

frwiki notes

[edit]

The list I made for missing biography articles on fr: was based on a list of requests made by others that used to exist at the French Wikipedia. I don't know where it's been archived. Re: צבי הירש אשכנזי

[edit]

If Wikipedia is going to work for Orthodox Rabbis, we're going to have to draw on everyone's resources. For R' Tzvi Hirsch there hasen't been any addition by our counterparts over seas, but when it comes to other luminareis I'm sure, and I hope that there are.

In the past when I was doing a little of my own research, I tried to read the hebrew and yiddish as well. There is no way that I cold type up an article in those langueages, but I know how to link them up. So I decided that every week, I'll try to link up the OCBRW (or whatever it's called ) to the hebrew and yiddish pages so that we could draw on them, and that our counterparts could draw on the english....

So I know that it's an empty link, but a bi-lingual hebrew speaker that chances upon it, might find it usefull to have the link to the english page. And then maybe that user will actually create an article using, in part, the info from the english page.

In general it is a good thing to link all the different variations of a the spelling of the name, so that random users will find the article no matter what spelling they use (Tzvi v. Zvi; Tzvi Ashkenazi vs Tzvi HIRSCH Ashkenazi; and Even the variants of Chacham Tzvi).

Mark Levin

[edit]

Thanks for taking an interest in the Mark Levin article. I agree wholeheartedly with the disclaimers you have added to the talk page. This article in particular has been a source of repeated revert wars, user flames, and general incivility towards any editors who try to improve the article. Feel free to peruse the Talk archives and the edit history to see some of what has tranpired. Any additional insights or suggestions you can bring would be most appreciated, particularly around the article becoming something of a clearinghouse for every anti-Levin blog mention ever written, regardless of how notable they are. Look forward to working with you on this.FLeeLevin 20:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will read the link you suggest. As for my user name, I'm simply a listner of the show who decided to register after seeing the page effectively held hostage by flamewars, belligerance and revert-a-thons. No affiliation with Levin or WABC whatsoever, although I am a listner of the show. I don't think being a fan or listner disqualifies one from participating in the project however. I strongly suggest you look at the edit history of the page, as well as the archived talk page, to see what seems to be the norm with this topic.FLeeLevin 21:02, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to consider changing my name, do I need an admin to help me with this or do I simply abandon this one and start a new one? Given the tone on the Levin page, I asume I'd be accused of sockpuppetry if I chose the latter. Didn't mean to cause confusion with the name. It was the Levin article that prompted me to register, so that influenced the name I chose. Thanks again for the advice.FLeeLevin 21:14, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Appreciate the advice. Nice to see the positive side of Wikipedia in action, so I appreciate your advice and help on this FLeeLevin 21:30, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Lostpedia

[edit]

It was tagged for CSD as CSD G8, and you deleted it. I couldn't really figure it out, there was some abuse of the talk but not too severe. I can undelete it if you think it should be reversed. Yanksox 00:04, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support on my RFA, which closed successfully this morning with a result of (53/2/1). I've spent the day trying out the new tools, and trying not to mess things up too badly :). I was quite thrilled with all the support, both from the people I see around every day, as well as many users who I didn't know from before, yet wrote such wonderful things about me. I look forward to helping to serve all of you, and the project. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. -Goldom ‽‽‽ 04:32, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Salted short pages

[edit]

I noticed you've been telling admins to add comments to salted pages to avoid them from appearing on "short pages," but couldn't you also subst the {{deletedpage}} template? I'm not criticizing your actions, I'm just seeing if there's a way to make it easier. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Happy editing, --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 05:35, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's a discussion on the template's talk about it. Consensus is not to subst it. Check out the talk, I intially subst'd but reverted myself after reading the talk. Yanksox 05:36, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, well, after reading the relevant discussion, there are good reasons not to subst it. Thanks. --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 05:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ok, it should be done. There were a few that weren't deleted and I may have missed one or two, I'll try to double check. Yanksox 06:13, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey A. Either you made a mistake here or you defied the majority of the opinions for whatever reason. I am ok with the latter possibility, but would feel more comfortable knowing that's the case. Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/email 04:48, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! It's more probable that I made a mistake than was genuinely defiant of the opinions expressed. I am only human and I have no axe to grind with any party around here! My thoughts on this article were that the author is clearly knowledgable about a particular field but that they haven't stated what their notable achievements in that field are. This being the case, AfD gives interested parties five days to update an article to the point of notability or beyond. As this hadn't happened according to the edit history I thought that, rather than losing the material altogether with a simple delete, it would be better off on the authors' user page, where it would give other editors an insight in to their contributions ([C++]] & Javascript). The article doesn't say anything about the books being notable achievements - my libraries have several dozen books on each subject. Are they standard works on the subject. Technical translation is an expensive business - does this push the author in to notable status? I thought not, so I went with the userfy advice. This was my reasoning but I am open to seeing it reversed! Regards,  (aeropagitica)   (talk)  06:55, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baggårdsbryggeriet

[edit]

I didn't think the prod was necessary seeing as it is part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Beer and that other breweries I have deprodded in the past have passed AFD with flying colours. Regarding your specific concern, as a general rule breweries are the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company itself through their entries into beer festivals and what not.
