Information icon Hello, Crossswords. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

For instance, in the Venice article, you referred to not "using our country in your list". Wikipedia is not comprised of people editing and guarding the articles of their respective countries to make them look as good as possible. One should take a neutral stance and include only factually-accurate information, without any consideration to their feelings for their country. Most of your edits have been constructive and have adhered to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, but from some, it is clear that you have strong personal beliefs about Russia, and all I ask is that you be careful not to let these opinions interfere with your good work on Wikipedia :) Silvrous Talk 19:18, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Language & economy chart

[edit]

Hello, Crosswords. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. You recently added a chart captioned "The languages that have the most impact on the World Economy" to the article Language. Your edit summary said, "adding good example". The rather large chart is not an example of either language origin or the study of language, the sections just above and just below the chart. Therefore, I have removed the chart from the article. If you disagree and think the chart should be re-added, please comment at Talk:Language. Thanks, and happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 11:44, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In case you missed the notification at Wikimedia Commons, I'd like to let you know that I have nominated the file containing the chart for deletion. Discussion is here. Your comments are welcome there. Cnilep (talk) 02:39, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Iryna Harpy. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. IMF PPP Data

[edit]

I noted your comment/revert on the GDP PPP illustration in Eurasian Economic Union using IMF data. Thanks for highlighting that. What's your recommendation? Use IMF 2013 nominal GDP and factor in OECD PPP data?

But a differnt question: it was an illustration without discreet numbers and was only intendet to put things in perspective. Do you think the age of the IMF PPP data makes such a big difference (for the top ten)? And it wasn't even ordered. --Aeroid (talk) 19:43, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited International Comparison Program, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page PPP (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Information icon Hello, I'm Iryna Harpy. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Religion in Latvia, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page.
Note that your additions are WP:PUFF & WP:PEACOCK unless you have a source to cite remarking on this unremarkable conclusion you've come to. Please demonstrate that these 3 forms of Christianity are the 3 most prominent in the world. You seem to have forgotten about Protestantism, Church of England and various other forms of Christian denominations.

DRN request

[edit]

Your request for dispute resolution at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard has been removed. The immediate reason was because we do not accept manually filed requests. To make a request at that page, please click the "Request Dispute Resolution" button in the header at the top of the page. However, if you had made your request in the proper way, it would still have been immediately closed because all moderated content dispute resolution at Wikipedia requires extensive talk page discussion before requesting assistance and I cannot find any such discussion in regard to this dispute. Finally, if this is, as I think it may be (I'm not certain), a dispute over the name of article, then the proper forum for such disputes is not any of the regular dispute resolution processes but instead, Requested Moves, so if I'm right about that, give RM a try. Eurasian Economic Union

[edit]

Hello Crossswords, the Eurasian Economic Union will launch on January 1 2015 with 5 member states and candidates planning to the join in the future. We're looking for someone that can assess the article so that we can get it ranked as a good article before January 1. We're currently working to make it fit the featured article criteria. Reiterating the importance of edit summaries...

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Russians does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary.
Please note that the image you reinstated in the infobox was removed because there was no consensus to use a photo of a family from a particular region at a particular point in time as being representative of the entire history and culture known as "Russians". Please don't make unilateral decisions without even so much as an attempt to discuss issues of WP:PERTINENCE with other editors... and without even providing an edit summary.

Just a heads up

[edit]

You probably should take a couple of minutes and review Wikipedia:Canvassing. Some of your notifications for ANI are fairly obviously an attempt to attract only users you expect will agree with you, because you expect they will agree with you. TimothyJosephWood 15:20, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I didnt know that. But still i dont see what what was wrong with it: lets see at my complaints: harassment, i invited people that felt harassed or saw it and warned him. I didnt see anyone else i could have invited to talk about him. Over activity, deleting other peoples messages are issues of himself or myself. And as can be seen i didnt invite the other people who got their messages deleted too. So how is my selection biased?

And i find it extremely unfair how the case was closed without me getting the chance to reply to @Sagecandor and the other replies to me. For example the notion that there is nothing wrong with his over-activity, i forgot to ad proven statistics that there is something wrong and its not normal for an average Wikipedian. https://en.wikiscan.org/user/Crossswords https://en.wikiscan.org/utilisateur/Sagecandor

And then i forgot to add various examples where he threatened (or implied to) people to be banned from editing for disagreeing without having this authority, you can scroll up to see what i mean. These types of messages are not only on my profile its part of his style, it should be illegal in this site imo.--Crossswords (talk) 02:35, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One way or another, the argument that an editor is a nefarious actor because they spend, on average 5 hours and ten minutes on Wikipedia per day, is not going to go anywhere, and probably does little but make you look paranoid.
Of course, if there is persistent disruptive behavior, there is nothing preventing you from opening another thread, but I would probably make sure I had my ducks in a row before I went that route. Spamming high profile noticeboards may be construed as a form of WP:HARASSMENT if done so without substantial evidence. TimothyJosephWood 15:18, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lenin lede image

[edit]

Hi Crosswords, and thanks for your interest in the Lenin article, which I brought up to FA status last year. The lede image which you have added is certainly an aesthetically nicer one, but the information provided about it at Commons does not specify when it was first published, only when it was actually taken. That means that the copyright tag appended to it is totally spurious and thus we are prevented from using it on Wikipedia. It's frustrating, I know, but that's how it is. See for instance the discussion here. Midnightblueowl (talk) 14:12, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Aircraft manufacturers of Russia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ~barakokula31 (talk) 22:25, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Metrojet Flight 9268 into Terrorism in Russia. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. A tag has been placed on Green Bomb requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I restored However scholars believe that Ivlev's calculations are without serious foundation.[1] because readers should see both sides of the argument, not just Ivlev's. If you have a problem with this we can discuss the matter on the talk page @ World War II casualties of the Soviet Union. I suggest that you take the time to read the article by Mark Harrison Counting the Soviet Union’s War Dead: Still 26-27 Million, Harrison is an expert on Soviet and Russian affairs, his bibliography is posted on the link to his article. Ivlev lacks academic credentials and as far as I know his ideas have no academic support that we can cite on Wikipedia. --Woogie10w (talk) 00:24, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Crossswords. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Yalta International Economic Forum, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

A page you started (Kaspersky bans and allegations of Russian government ties) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Kaspersky bans and allegations of Russian government ties.

I have just reviewed the page, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This is a great start to an article. I think the section headings should be rewritten/reorganized so that it's more clear to a reader what each section is about and their relation to the overall topic.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

Belarussian flag

[edit]

Hey, I saw your edit on 2020 Belarussian protests get reverted by Abcmaxx. Looks like we are on the same side! Go see that article's talk page. This Abcmaxx guy is insane. Please help me explain to him what's wrong with using that flag on that infobox.14.177.70.199 (talk) 16:22, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

One question for you

[edit]

Could you add to redirects about Russians from video games, like I do it for other redirects? For example, their background, from what series are they, abilities and occupation? 217.97.84.189 (talk) 09:42, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Nichiporchik

[edit]

Hey, I'm not sure I'm following your reasoning for this edit. You removed the Latvian spelling of his name, citing it as "Western washing", leaving only the anglicized version. This is the name sometimes used by Nichiporchik himself and tinyBuild, e.g. in the company's IPO filing and investor overview. If there was an official and reliably sourced Russian/Cyrillic rendering, we could include that as well, though I have not seen him or a reliable source use that yet. I fail to see how the inclusion of a self-used name imposes an identity on him since we are not mentioning an ethnicity anywhere. Clarification would be appreciated. Regards, IceWelder [] 09:03, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, his name in Russian is called (Алекс Ничипорчик), you can search it in Russian New article. The name Nichiporchikcan is mostly found in Russia and Belarus. Its not easy to find facts or the personal opinion for the ethnical background of an indie developer on the internet obviously, so I thought its better to not translate it at all as it would obviously imply an ethnicity for readers. Latvia has a large population of Russian speaking citizens with Slavic background, while the language has no official status, so the shareholder name could be filled this way by law or other reasons.--Crossswords (talk) 06:10, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Czech Republic–Russia relations does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Late Middle Ages, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Grand Principality of Rus'. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
