There are some things you might want to go and read at WP:COI just to be on the safe side - particularly WP:COISELF, although I think your edit summary on the article page covers yourself in that regard. Blue Square Thing (talk) 13:12, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi there - the article you found about Harry Cowling's 215 was written in an informal end of term housemaster's report for C1. Clearly it is true that Harry Cowling scored 215* but as you say this was in a Yearling's game (aged 13) against a very poor side who did not even have the right kit to play cricket and it was played on a very small pitch. The Marlborough Master in Charge of Cricket agreed at the time that this was NOT breaking the school record that Billy Mead set of scoring 214* for the First XI on the Marlborough College First XI pitch. He said to Harry Cowling - "now you need to go and do it on the First XI pitch". Which Harry Cowling has not done. There is no conflict of interest here - I am simply requesting that this article does not appear on Billy Mead's Wikipedia page. Whilst we appreciate you writing this page on the day that he scored a century in his debut first class game, we would like this reference to be removed as it is not correct, and I am know that Marlborough College would vouch for this as the two scores are not comparable at all. If you were to contact Marlborough College and ask who holds the record for the most runs scored for the First XI on a First XI pitch, they would confirm it was Billy Mead. Please can you amend that the record of 214* is the Marlborough College record for the First XI - that is a fact. CrickMam (talk) 14:42, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- I have added a caveat to the article (and another source fwiw) that indicates the sort of thing you've mentioned. I wonder if it might be possible to strengthen the caveat a little more actually. I'll have a think. Remember that it's only a footnote in the article that's in any way problematic. What we could really use from Marlborough would be for them to publish their cricket records somewhere! That would really help matters. Blue Square Thing (talk) 14:54, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
