Hello

Hello there, I 'm The Random Editor. You may have seen me on WP:MOTTO or you may have never heard of me. I trying to make some friends on Wikipedia, and you looked like a good candidate for the position. I have been on wikipedia for three months, though I have really only gotten in around 1 month's worth of edits. Drop by my talk page and leave me a message. Once again, I just thought I would say hi. --Random Say it here! 19:52, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks about my sig, and no way do I want a friendship to interfere with editing. The main reason we are he is to build an encylopedia, right? I'm going to add you to the Friend section on my userpage. Okay. Later. --Random Say it here! 00:59, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey, it is me random. Listen, I recently nominated Money for GA status. The put it on hold and now are voting if or if not to make it the WP:GACOTW so that it can make GA status. I don't know your opinion on whether or not it should become the WP:GACOTW of the week or not, but I would like your opinion anyway. Let me know. --Random Say it here! 22:34, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

RE:Help at MotD

Sure, but it may be a while as I am about to go to the movies. On a related note, {{Motd nomclosing}}, which I created, can be used when someone is closing many mottoes at once. I will close (or reopen) all of the ones that you've not already done, but I just wanted you to be wary that, due to real-life goings on, I may not do it immediately. ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 18:08, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I have voted support on 2 mottos, per your request, although you would probably think it is not nearly enough. Thanks. – AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx)(+sign here+How's my editing?) 19:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Technically, it shouldn't be done under normal circumstances, but a mass closing was due around this time, so I guess IAR applies. ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 23:47, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

checkY Done with the archiving. ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 23:55, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

The movie was fairly good; it was Are We Done Yet, and as a result, it had a profuse amount of humor in it. On a more focused note, closing all those nominations gives me something to do, so if (or when) I become an admin, I'll never be bored. Are you going to check the timestamps of every motto to see if you can close it from now on, to put Tewy and me out of a job? ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 00:10, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
NOOOOOO!!On my part, that is. Please, close the nominations if you want to, to take my - and Tewy's - workload off. I've never read Eragon, probably because of the crappy movie commercials. Have you ever read A Series of Unfortunate Events? Also, do you want to download an IRC client and join #wikipedia-en (this will probably reduce your user talk namespace edits, if you just want to talk)? ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 00:20, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Ah, it's a pity that your parents don't like you downloading the harmless - yet sophisticated - 'pedia programs. My favorite books are this one, this one, this one, this one (which is infinitely better than the movie version), and this one. ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 00:30, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm Animum on IRC, just to let you know. ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 00:30, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Closing noms

(I just noticed your comment on Magnus animum's talk page.) If it helps any, I'll explain how I close nominations. I begin by opening two tabs on my web browser. One is the nominations page ("Awaiting decision"), and the other is the editing window of the nominations page ("Awaiting decision"). I view the actual page to determine consensus, because it is much easier to read, and simultaneously use the edit window to mark my decision. I do it one motto at a time, but only click the save button once (as opposed to section editing). Of course, before I click "Save", I preview the page to make sure I didn't mess up (but I usually do at least once per mass closing). After that, I move the reopened mottos by a (very) careful cut/paste procedure, using the same two window procedure (although I open a third window to edit the "In review" page), and then go from there to archive the discussions and schedule the approved mottos. When I'm done, it's helpful to view my watchlist to see that the number of bytes removed from one page is the same as the number of bytes added to the other page. --Tewy 22:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Stoopid Monkey Logos

As you probably aware, the Stoop!d Monkey page was the subject of an AfD and the result was, of course, "Keep". Currently, the logos are a point of contention with myself saying that they were part of the "Keep", while User:Calton saying they were to be dropped and the article was to remain.

I asked the admin who closed the AfD his opinion and he replied, "I just said the article was to be kept, I don't know about the logos". There wasn't a decision given on the logos and in the AfD only 3 users said the logos should go, only 1 said keep the article, lose the logos.

I am not sure how to handle this, but since the admin who closed the AfD made no decision and the AfD wasn't about the logos in the first place (and the majority said to keep the logos if you want to be picky about it, as far as I can tell).

This wasn't an issue from April 16th (immediately after the AfD) to May 3rd when User:Calton realized that I was blocked for 48hours (not related to this) and I couldn't revert his changes. User:Calton had no interest and made no changes on the page itself or the talk page during that time. So, to me, his initial revert on May 3rd was done because of my block.

I have asked two admins (in case one is offline) to revert his changes and put a block on the page until this can be worked out. I am also asking you, since you contributed to the AfD, what your opinion is on just the logos themselves. I appericate you input one way or the other. Thanks...SVRTVDude (VT) 03:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Cremepuff222. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Sergeant Bluff School Logo.gif) was found at the following location: User:Cremepuff222/OriginalBoxes. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Response to "Just stopping by..."

Hello Cremepuff222! That's excellent that you're getting admininistrator coaching from Ryan Postlethwaite: he'll be a good teacher. I checked your edit count and again I must say that I am pleased you listened to your editor review: your Wikipedia edits are approaching 1000, and your mainspace are already above 1200. Plus, you're involved with XfD's, and getting more involved in the RfA's. You're a good listener...and that's a very good sign.

As for my next RfA...that won't be for a while. I am not going to rush to my next nomination: instead, I plan to wait and gain more experience. I have learned much since March 28 (the closing date of my first RfA), but I feel I haven't learned enough just yet. Sure, I am a much calmer now, and less thin-skinned (as well as less prone to over-reaction), but there are still a couple of other issues which I am still working on. :)

Anyway, thanks for your message. I am glad to see you are working hard. :) Acalamari 02:07, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Check the above page for some new tasks (there's 2 new ones to be done over the week). What I'm going to do is set you an essay each week for you to write regarding a different policy/guidline, this will help you to look at, and research how they are all used - increasing your knowledge of them. Hope this is OK with you, let me know if you have any problems. Ryan Postlethwaite 17:03, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Your comments on Sabit Ince AfD

I'd suggest you read our article on combatting systemic bias in Wikipedia before you vote on any further on articles for deletion. Wikipedia isn't just for Americans or for Anglophones. If someone's notable in Turkey, they're notable enough for Wikipedia. If anything, we don't have enough articles on people, places, and items that aren't well-known among tech-savvy young American males. And yes, a writer who writes in a language other than English is held to exactly the same notability standards as one that writes in English. Alexander Solzhenitsyn is as notable to the English Wikipedia as he is to the Russian Wikipedia. Franz Kafka is as notable to us as to the Czech Wikipedia.

Sorry to harp on this, but this is a very common attitude among young male American Wikipedians - that somehow whatever they already know about or deal with on a daily basis is more notable than what they assume (usually wrongly) will never affect them personally. --Charlene 05:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, TomasBat. Thanks for your contributions at WP:MOTD, but can you please justify your reasons for supporting/opposing the mottoes you vote on? MOTD

(From User talk:AstroHurricane001)

Woah, that's a lot of mottoes you just nominated! ;) You're making it tough for the people who close the mottoes though..., and your help in this area would be much appreciated. *Cremepuff222* 00:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi. The problem is, I don't quite know how exactly to close mottos. I've seen people disscussing this, but I would have to read the actual guidelines. Once I know how, I can try to close some mottos, but may or may not have the time to actually archive them. So, I hope I can help out with this. Hopefully I'll have time. Hopefully I won't run out of ideas for MOTD, as I once stated, "...will never run out of ideas". This is because the number of possible ideas is nearly infinite. Thanks. -- AstroHurricane001(T+C+U) 22:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I could show you how I do it if that would help. *Cremepuff222* 22:11, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Sure, I guess so, but only if it will be faster than reading through all the pages. Anyway, that was pretty fast, I was just about to edit a Wikipedia page, when, whoa! "You have new message(s)"! Almost as fast as IM, I would say. Hey, maybe I could use that for a motto. All pretty fast for someone who is "probably at track right now" (per top text). Anyway, only tell me how if you have enough time, and I might be editting something else as you reply (if you wish), so probably not as fast as IM. Thanks. -- AstroHurricane001(T+C+U) 22:19, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

(Shhh, nobody knows that I'm not at track...) XD You always make me laugh... Now, back to business. First, I open the Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review page, then cut and paste the mottoes older than 14 days into Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations#Awaiting decision. At that point, I open up three tabs: one for the archive, one for approved mottoes, and one for reopened mottoes. (So at this point, I'll have four tabs: one for the mottoes I'm closing, one for archiving, one for approved mottoes, and one for reopened mottoes). Next, I edit each motto in the awaiting decision by section. After that, I move the motto to the appropriate page (in review for reopened mottoes, approved for approved mottoes, and archive for approved/rejected mottoes). Well, that's pretty much it I suppose. If you have any more questions, or if I wasn't very clear, please tell me. *Cremepuff222* 22:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

I wanted to thank you for the constructive comments you made on my RfA. It looks like my laziness previously when it comes to the edit summary field has reared it's ugly head! Don't take your failure (that sounds a bit harsh... :) ) too hard. Adminship isn't all that it's hyped up to be, at least to some admins I know. Best of luck in the future! *Cremepuff222* 23:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

RE:

(From User talk:Magnus animum)

Hey, Magnus. I was wondering if I could take a leaf out of your book and create a User:Cremepuff222 (userspace) account. Did you have to go through some procedure to do this? *Cremepuff222* 00:06, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Create away! But make sure you make it clear on both user pages that the accounts are both from you (I've got one - User:Ryanpostlethwaiteontheroad! Ryan Postlethwaite 00:10, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Sure, as nothing in policy says otherwise. Another thing, why are you responding on your talk page now? Please respond on my talk page or on #Animum, ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 00:11, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
I've started to respond on both talk pages now so that I can keep my conversations together. Hope that's not an issue... *Cremepuff222* 00:13, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict) No, it just struck me when browsing your page. Can you come onto IRC? ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 00:15, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Any particular reason? I guess I'll be at #Cremepuff222. *Cremepuff222* 00:21, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Nope; I'm already on #Cremepuff222. ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 00:22, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

RE:MOTD

(From User talk:The Random Editor) Hey, thanks for helping me oppose that motto by Magnus! Hopefully, we've started a revolution. :) *Cremepuff222* 22:10, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Good one Cremepuff222. :) --Random Say it here! 22:12, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I suppose it is a compliment. :) *Cremepuff222* 22:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

New Category

(From User talk:Nekohakase)

I would like to start a new category for people involved in Philosophy of Science. (There seems to be a large number in the general category above.) But last time I tried to start a category I made a mistake. How do I start a category? Also, is "philosophy of science people" an appropriate title for such a category?Nekohakase 23:04, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Have you checked Wikipedia:Categorical index to see if there's already a similar category? *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 23:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, that helped. Nekohakase 23:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, no problem. :) *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 23:34, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

(From User talk:CaliforniaAliBaba) Thanks for the information. But next time you tell a user this, do you think you could just notify him/her at his/her talk page? I don't mean to sound angry at you, but I was quite embarrased, especially considering that the whole community goes through AfD. Again, thanks. *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 20:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry I embarassed you, but I felt the need to respond to this argument early and forcefully. I will make an effort to be more diplomatic in the future, as it's not something I'm good at. Anyway, this argument pops up rather often when there's an AfD on a non-English subject, and I've even seen admins delete articles on this basis despite the article's having been improved to meet WP:V and WP:N, for example Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kelvin Kwan, which had citations from six different newspaper articles at the time it was deleted; the deletion was later overturned. cab 00:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
It's not a big deal. Thanks for informing me on the matter! :) *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 00:01, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

User (userspace)??

Hi. Since your page is in my watchlist, I noticed something strange. It seems that your pages are edited by User:Cremepuff222 (userspace). Why is this? I wold think that this would be the name for a userspace page, not an actual editor. Is that editor the same as you? This may confuse some people, as the talkpage for that user is redlinked. Should it be changed into a redirect for this page? See: User:Cremepuff222 (userspace) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). This is clearly a user, probably you, but I think its talkpage should redirect to here. Does that mean you have 2 accounts? Is that account soley meant for userspace? Would it make new messages confusing? Does it even matter? Thanks. -- AstroHurricane001(T+C+U) 17:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, nevermind, I read that page. PS. I will try to help close the motto(e)s when I have time. Thanks. -- AstroHurricane001(T+C+U) 17:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

I have renominated the redirects for deletion. They were nominated before but since they were bundled with Estland, whose nomination I withdrew, the handling admin also cancelled the RfDs early. You voted on the previous discussion; I would like you to know that I have copied your vote and comment from the previous discussion into Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2007 May 27. reply from stephen serjeant

Thank you for your extremely quick response to my request for help! Yes, I tried the obvious checks for caps lock errors, and tried pasting the password from some plain text to be sure there were no typing errors, as well as trying to type the password in by hand. Any other thoughts? (Incidentally I'm not sure if the correct place to reply is here or on my own talk page - hope this is OK.) Many thanks and best wishes, Stephen Serjeant

A little script for your adoptees?

I don't really think it's that great, but I use it quite a bit now that I made it, and I'm trying to make it give me an alert like when you have a new message on your talk page, when you change the assignment page. I wrote a script that adds a link to the toolbox "My Assignments" and links to your Adoptee Assignments Page. Its at User:Redian/newassignments.js
What do you think of it? Redian (Talk) 04:51, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Need help for my userbox subpage

Hey Cremepuff222, I noticed your name on Trading Spaces and I'm wondering if you would be willing to take a look at my page, particularly my subpage on userboxes, transcluded onto my main page. I have been having problems with the "Entertainment" and "Diet" sections of it under both firefox and IE (particularly firefox which I exclusively use on my own computer) and I can't seem to figure out what to do. I notice the design is similar, in vein, to your userbox page. I am horrible at coding (I am more of a cut and paste type of person and then troubleshoot from there) and can't seem to figure out what is wrong, either with my code, or particular userboxes themselves, but I have changed the design many times in order to fix the problems of the userboxes not sticking to one column and the automatic clearing malfunctioning... massive headaches all around, you should see what it does to my main page from top to bottom. Would you be willing to help me fix this problem, perhaps overhauling the code if needed (ie: If I royally screwed up)? If you can think of any design ideas for my page, I am also considering an overhaul of the page. Thanks! --Valley2city₪‽ 04:26, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Cremepuff.... Heellp!!!

If there is 1 support vote, do you reject it? c'mon, we've fished a good one.Kfc1864Cuba Libre! 08:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry to interupt, but when I reopened it, I read the procedures. It says that "if there is no obvious consensus", and "when in doubt", repoen. It says to reject it only if it has not reached consensus, and it also has already been reopned once. If there is one support, there is no obvious consensus, but since the only vote is a support, there is a probablity that if the motto was reopened and given a second chance, it may be approved. Therefore, you should probably reopen. If there is enough support after another 2 weeks, you approve. If, after this time, there are too many opposes or still not enough supports to reach consensus, you reject. This is what I think after reading the procedure (but I hope I'm not doing WP:OR by saying so). Thanks. -- AstroHurricane001(T+C+U) 17:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
