Mathematical description (of Reciprocal lattice)

Hi CrambleSquash: just to mess you around, I've added an anchor called Multidimensional to the Fourier transform article and modified the link to it on the Reciprocal lattice page so it now looks like multi-dimensional Fourier series. Best to edit your Sandbox link using the anchor or you'll break my edit. See diff — and Template:Anchor for why. I'm also in the process of tweaking Fourier series § Fourier series of Bravais-lattice-periodic-function, whose notation I rather like as it does away with those confusing m, n indices. You might find their notation works okay for you, too.

I'm not intending to copy-and-edit what you have on your Sandbox or do any more edits on Reciprocal lattice § Mathematical description (don't want to mess you even more). Instead, I'm aiming to move Reciprocal lattice § Reciprocal space as the first section and add a bit about choosing a vector k for a plane wave that's compatible with the lattice. This seems to me to line things up for then introducing the gory details of the reciprocal lattice itself in the Mathematical description section. Feel free to modify what I produce (once I'm done!). I'll keep a temporary watch on this Talk page in case you reply, but will try to comment at the main article if it isn't directly relevant to your sandbox draft. The Wave vector article is good on explaining physicists' vs crystallographers' use of factor . Whichever, it doesn't go away; so removing it from one place, it just pops up in another. Reciprocal lattice seems to be slanted towards the physicists' convention k = 2π / λ. NeilOnWiki (talk) 11:12, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CrambleSquash again: I've finally published my mega-edits under Reciprocal lattice § Wave-based description at the start of the main body. I hope they work! I've looked at the Mathematical description section and I think it needs a lot of well-informed thought.
