Help Me!
- Thread moved from Talk:Angelina Jolie per discussion. 23skidoo (talk) 20:45, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
I have already posted on other user pages (my own and [[Greta Garbo]'s) because I am new and I need help. If there is a specific page for me to go to regarding being new and needing guidance on Wikipedia, please let me know. I come on this particular page because I know that Angelina Jolie is probably the most searched topic around here and it's more likely that people will come on the user page and see this post. Crackthewhip775 (talk) 02:47, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- First thing you need to know is it's considered bad form to ask unrelated questions on talk pages, especially on more than one article. Although we have a guideline called Don't Bite the Newcomers, it might still annoy some folks. In answer to your question, you should go to Wikipedia:Questions. You should have actually received that link (or a similar one) on your talk page when you registered. Cheers! 23skidoo (talk) 12:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Is there any objection to removing this section to the original poster's talk page after the OP has read it (or by 2008-08-28)? -- Danorton (talk) 15:26, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- No objection. 23skidoo (talk) 19:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Had no idea. Thank you. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 20:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- No objection. 23skidoo (talk) 19:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
No worries. The box at the top of this page, as I expected, contains most of the links you need to learn the ropes. 23skidoo (talk) 20:46, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
suggestion
Saw your post at WP:AN and thought I'd suggest using Template:Adoptme by simply copying the code: {{Adoptme}}
to somewhere on your user or user talk page. This will put you into the user category Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user which is monitored by experienced editors interested in adopting new editors (read more at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User). user:Everyme 15:04, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Adoption
I'd be more than willing to help you out! Wildthing61476 (talk) 13:41, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- If you are the only person that uses the computer, then yes, you can do that, but if the computer is shared, then no. Also, feel free to ask any questions that you are curious about and I'd be happy to help you. Wildthing61476 (talk) 15:04, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome!
I see that you've been adopted. That's fantastic! If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to contact either myself or the user who has adopted you. Happy editing! Ms. Sarita (talk) 11:01, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Changing a picture
First place I would check out is here, which goes into detail on how to upload image and add images to articles. This same technique can be used to change an image as well. As for images off the internet, that's a tough one since it seems to be a hot button issue. The best rule of thumb is, if the pictures been released to the public domain, it's ok to use. Wildthing61476 (talk) 12:46, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
The whole fair-use image issue is a REALLY sticky one, and one of the most complicated I've seen. The best rule of thumb is if the picture has been explictly been released in the public domain, it can be used. With regards to your other question, check out how to create a unified login here. I've done this, and it links your account across a number of Wikipedia projects, including the Commons. Wildthing61476 (talk) 12:59, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
So you created this same username on the Commons, but it said the account didn't exist there when you tried to unify the accounts? I wanted to make sure I read that right. Wildthing61476 (talk) 03:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to butt in, but I noticed that you're having a problem with unifying accounts. If your accounts have different passwords or authenticated emails (email you signed up with) then I think it wouldn't work. Maybe that's where your problem is. Maybe. I'm not quite sure. Sorry if I come across as nosy. I'm also adopted by Wildthing61476 and saw your post on his talk Itzjustdrama (drama?) 04:30, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the help! I had a bit of an issue linking my accounts at first as well, but somehow I fixed it. I wish for the life of me I remembered how. My suggestion would be go to the Unified Login talk page and ost the question there, and one of the developers that worked on the project could answer it for you. Wildthing61476 (talk) 12:51, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Images
Yes, I reverted it because I seriously doubt it's a free image. If you update the image, remember that it should be a free image only, and not fair-use. Thanks. Acalamari 01:44, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi; wanted to let you know that I've reverted your addition to that article because it violates Wikipedia's rules concerning biographies of living persons. Looie496 (talk) 21:49, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Awesome
Ha ha, that last title for the talk thread was hilarious =) Anyway, the feel I get from discussion is that we should chill out on the topic for a while and wait for a more 'official' news release. No need to rush things into the article just yet. Let's be cool, daddio! Dp76764 (talk) 14:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- hehehe, yeah people like to play it straight around here and not joke around too much. Thus, I lie low and try to learn whatever I can whenever I can. ;) It's usually best to be easy about stuff and not get too passionate about it (you should see the stink some guy raised about an issue with Top Gear (current format)) Dp76764 (talk) 13:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Hayden Panettiere
Your recent edit to Talk:Hayden Panettiere has been reverted, as it was quite unacceptable. Please keep in mind that talk pages are not forums for general discussion, and that saying someone "sucks" is not appropriate anywhere on Wikipedia. Cheers, faithless (speak) 23:39, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Re: Kanye West
Hi there! I have no idea why your citations won't link correctly. Try going to the citation template page and scroll down to the "Cite web" section. That will give you the proper format. How are you writing out your citations? Ms. Sarita (talk) 04:28, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- See my response on my talk page. I put a reference list in my response and I didn't want to post it here and potentially cause problems for your talk page. Ms. Sarita (talk) 22:07, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hey there. I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've been extremely busy! Anyway, if you haven't figured out the whole citation thing out yet, here's a piece of advice:
- From what you have posted in your above response, I can see precisely what is going on. You are replacing the criteria text with the information that you are getting from your source of information. For example, "Kanye Attack Caught on Tape =" should be "title = Kanye Attack Caught on Tape" and "September 11, 2008 = " should be "date = September 11, 2008" and so on and so forth (without the quotation marks, of course, and with proper date formatting, i.e., 2008-09-11). You need to keep the "date = ", "title = ", "url = ", etc. in order for the reference to work properly.
- Take a close look at the example citation I posted above from the Cillian Murphy article. That is how your references should be layed out.
- To answer your question, you do not need to input the first and last name of the author, but if it is available to you, it should be included in the reference. If information is not available, you can simply leave that space blank, or not input the criteria field at all (i.e., if you don't have the name of the author of the article you are citing, don't type "last =" or "first =" into the citation template).
- You can go to the cite web template article; they have some examples that you can look at if you wish.
- Let me know if you're still having trouble and/or if I am making absolutely no sense. Ms. Sarita (talk) 09:13, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi there. I took a glance at the Kanye West article and the only thing that I can notice (without reading it over thoroughly) is that the "Arrest" subsection and the "Pending charges" section should be in the same section since they are related to each other. I also agree that the two sections should be gone over to correct grammar and sentence structure. But, it's all on you and what you want to do. Ms. Sarita (talk) 05:28, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hey. I looked over the section and moving it to its own section was a good idea. However, I would try to summarize it even more. It feels like there's just a little too much detail. Folks don't need a play-by-play of what happened with West in the altercation, if you know what I mean. Also, you should try to refrain from writing curse words on article pages, even if it is a direct quote (unless it is absolutely of value, which in this case, I don't believe it is). Other than that, I would just condense the section a little more and maybe someone (or I) will come by and clean it up a bit. But it looks good! Ms. Sarita (talk) 10:06, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Not a problem. Ms. Sarita (talk) 19:30, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- It looks a lot better. I may go in and tweak some things out a little bit, but it looks like it's well layed out. This is your first big edit, yes? Ms. Sarita (talk) 20:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, congratulations on your first major edit. I'm glad that I was able to help you out. If you have any more questions in the future, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll try to go over the section in the Kanye West article later on in the week (if someone else doesn't get ahold of it first). Ms. Sarita (talk) 20:45, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

keyboard problems
sounds like one of three things happened:
- the shift key on your keyboard is stuck in the pressed position
- you have an internal short in the keyboard that's sending a pressed shift key signal
- you have a loose keyboard cord
try the last first - unplug your keyboard and plug it back in. then try shutting down your computer and checking for a stuck key (that usually involves inspecting the shift keys, turning the keyboard upside down and tapping it, maybe taking the keys off and putting them back on - if it's a laptop, you can open the keyboard like a flap, but be gentler with it). if you do all that, restart the machine, and you still have the problem, probably time to buy a new keyboard. --Ludwigs2 23:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
iPod Touch review
It has a yellower tint, more so than the iPhone, which was yellower than the iPod Touch, 1st generation. Side by side, the first and second touch appear very much alike, but the second touch has a steel bezel (outline), instead of aluminium, and external volume controls, it is also tapered at the back, so it's curved. Same thing as first, with 5 hours and 40 minutes of video life (on first day, watching 2 movies from iTunes, 50% brightness, using iPod earphones, half-way volume, no auto-brightness, no wi-fi), and the audio life is 40 hours with the same conditions. It's Home button is no longer pressed inwards, and has a cheaper feeling (it click when pushed), and the volume controls are plastic, and cheap feeling too. It comes with no dock, and the cleaning cloth is no longer high quality, but still usable. UI changed a little, bigger font, Genius playlisting, Nike + iPod support. They also added an internal speaker, not visible, but the sound comes from all the holes, and the metal back. Best change is probably battery, speaker and volume switch. The price is still ridiculous. 8/10 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.14.220.119 (talk • contribs) 05:41, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Ron Liebman
Because I was one of the first to start reverting his original research on baseball player articles. It snowballed into him being banned. So he shows up once or twice a week to pester the handful of users that he sees as his enemies. He's mostly a pest, like a mosquito you can't quite swat down. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 22:33, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- He's already a banned user, so ArbCom doesn't figure into it at this point. Liebman uses the New York Public Library system for his "work", so they can't do a broad-ranging hard-block of IP addresses. User:Wknight94, who is an admin, oversees the situation. And it didn't have to come to this, but Liebman is a self-styled trivia expert who thinks SABR holds him in high esteem (he's actually a laughingstock there). None of that matters, except that he continually made changes to birthdates and such without providing documentation. That unrelenting disruption is what ultimately got him banned. Being banned makes it easier to dispose of his sockpuppets as they pop up. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 22:44, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- No, he's actually in his 60s, which is even more sad. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 23:41, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey! Can you give me a couple examples of the details that are different? I would say whichever article is more current, but MTV is a pretty reliable source of information regarding music artists. – Ms. Sarita Confer 01:53, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- The LA Times link took me to the SFGate article. Either way, unless the information majorly conflicts with each other, you can probably incorporate bits and pieces from each article. – Ms. Sarita Confer 05:41, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, sorry it took me so long to reply. I've had exams and research papers up the wazoo, plus a GA review that has taken up a lot of my time. I looked at all three articles that you posted, which all come from pretty reliable sources (I've used the LA Times, SF Gate, and MTV as references). My only concern is that all of the articles use a lot of words like "allegedly", "reportedly", etc. These hint at "rumors" about the event that have not yet been proven to be true and thus can be challenged. You could write a short stint about his arrest and maybe over the reason why, and West's subsequent release and the drop of charges against him, but I would leave the nitty-gritty details out. – Ms. Sarita Confer 13:36, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- It looks good. I revised a sentence that was a little awkward, but I don't believe anything else needs to be changed regarding this specific arrest. – Ms. Sarita Confer 10:09, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Sex on Fire
Just for your future information, it is generally considered impolite to "jump the queue" by moving your question to the opening spot again. Yours had only been up for three days. If a question isn't answered, it is usually because no one knows the answer or there is not a definitive one. You could help a Ref Desk volunteer help you by providing a link to the lyrics, for example, or to the song itself if the lyrics are themselves unclear. There is still no guarantee that anyone will know the answer except the writer of the lyrics, and even then, as with poetry, there may be more than one answer. The lyrics I saw here [1], for example, seem pretty self explanatory: horny dude has found himself a hot babe, who gives him a blow job while he's driving, and is otherwise a great lay. Of course, there is some question even about the exact lyrics. To help you more than that, I would have to listen to the song, and I am not that dedicated to the Ref Desk. Someone else may be. Good luck!៛ Bielle (talk) 04:20, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

What problems are you having, specifically? I assume you have tried clearing your browser cache, and restarting your browser? Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 23:12, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- You didn't say whether you had tried clearing your browser cache, and restarting your browser. Those are necessary before the widgets will appear. The script is working fine for me at the moment, and your code is correct, so that's the most likely explanation. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 23:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Have you changed your Wikipedia skin in your preferences? (are you using the Monobook skin?) Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 23:56, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- You could also try replacing the single quotes with double quotes (""), then clearing your cache again. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 23:57, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- Failing that, you may have to take the problem up with the help desk or appropriate section of the Village pump - I can't think what else to suggest. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 23:58, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello. According to Talk:IPod Touch, you want a review? (Sorry if that sounded wrong) The Touch is a great installment to the iPod series. It is very tough with mine being dropped at least 5 times which has only faint scratches on it. Acceloromater has little delay. Bottomline - Great machine. 4 out of 5
