Choosing a Topic for Wikipedia Assignment

[edit]

Dr. Council: We would love to have David Krech as our first choice, and if we absolutely cannot have him, we would settle with David L. Shapiro. I'm willing to volunteer Taylor to arm wrestle for Krech. :) CourtneyJB (talk) 13:19, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Courtney and Taylor. You've got Krech. I personally find him a very interesting, important, and under-recognized psychologist. He has a chapter in the series, "History of Psychology in Autobiography" (in the NDSU library - I have it checked out now, but can return it.) which is full of great material. Nice use of your talk page to discuss possible topics! J.R. Council (talk) 22:17, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, Krech died in 1977. J.R. Council (talk) 01:02, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I stumbled upon the article "Womb and vagina envy", and this may be a good article to revise. It has a couple flags at the top of the page stating it needs a lot of clean-up. Since this doesn't strike me as a topic in contemporary psychology, it may be a good candidate for the history requirement. Let me know what you think and if you have found any other article ideas. CourtneyJB (talk) 16:43, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I also found the article on "Experience Focused Counselling" to be rather bare bones. I am not familiar with this topic, but there's got to be more information about it than the little that is already outlined. CourtneyJB (talk) 16:52, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article "Resistance (psychoanalysis)" was in the list of articles that needed work on the Blackboard page. It also seems very minimal, but I do not know how much more information is available on this relatively easy to understand concept. It seems promising though as the previous author only used one source. CourtneyJB (talk) 21:00, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Those are good! I liked the first two. With the third one like you said there may not be a lot more information to add. I thought people would be good to look at as well so I went through the stubs that were posted and thought "Théodore Simon looked like it could use a bit of work. Perhaps with the organization of the information already on there with room for plenty more (and pictures)! Also thought "David L. Shapiro could be interesting. It really looks like someone just made it about himself or someone who knew him because all of the citations are his own work... What do you think about doing a person? Taylorkwest (talk) 02:50, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think that Simon would be a better choice over Shapiro. I feel that there should be a ton of information out there about Simon and that he is much bigger than his article makes him seem. Also, I am somewhat hesitant to revise Shapiro's article because he is still living, meaning that we would need to be extra cautious. Let's strike off resistance from our list of possibilities. CourtneyJB (talk) 03:25, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

After doing a quick Google search of each of the topics/people stated above, I had the best luck with David Shapiro. Honestly, I think the other four topics would be difficult to find information about, so I suggest we find another topic that needs work yet has information out there to back it up. Right now, I'm alright with choosing David L. Shapiro as our first choice to revise. CourtneyJB (talk) 21:48, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the Talk page of David Shapiro, you will see that he was already a topic used for this class last spring. This is fine, however it makes me worry that there really isn't very much to do with this article. I did find this website http://www.drdavidshapiro.com/about.php if we do end up doing him. CourtneyJB (talk) 21:55, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

David Krech may be another person that would be good to research. I found this APA article that mentioned him: http://www.apa.org/monitor/2013/05/brain.aspx Can you try to find more info on Krech and Shapiro and let me know what you think? CourtneyJB (talk) 22:01, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I found quite a bit of information on David Krech! He may be a good bet except he too is still alive. The sites seem promising though... http://law.wvu.edu/faculty-staff/full-time-faculty/david-l-krech http://texts.cdlib.org/view?docId=hb4q2nb2nd;NAAN=13030&doc.view=frames&chunk.id=div00039&toc.depth=1&toc.id=&brand=calisphere

That website of David Shapiro does look good...there's a few school sites and I found his curriculum vitae which could be of use http://psychology.nova.edu/common-pdf/faculty/shapiro_cv.pdf

So are we narrowing between Shapiro, Krech and Simon? Taylorkwest (talk) 03:29, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at Shapiro's talk page and I'm not sure how they weren't able to find much information. I have found quite a bit more in a short period of time than they have listed. I think he's a good candidate along with Krech over Simon. Taylorkwest (talk) 03:35, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I searched EBSCO quickly for Krech and found two articles from the 1950s with his name on them. Both of these were not referenced in his current article. Also, I dug further into PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES and found a TON of results with his name all over them. If you are alright with it, I say we chose Krech as our strong first choice and Shapiro as our second. CourtneyJB (talk) 05:00, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't help myself, so I already posted some info on Krech's Talk page. CourtneyJB (talk) 05:10, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes! I say Krech for 1, Shapiro for 2. I'll poke around and find some more and post them on his talk page! Taylorkwest (talk) 06:29, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
