Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because your username, Cornell-DNM-Lab, does not comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized below.
Under Wikipedia's username policy, a username should represent an individual person. It should not: represent a group or organization; be promotional; be misleading (such as indicating possession of special user rights, being a "bot" account - unless approved, or implying that the account has any administrative or "moderator" user rights, or any kind of "power" or "authority" over other users); nor be offensive or otherwise disruptive. However, a username that contains the name of an organization and also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87" is allowed, but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company". Among others, the guidance on conflict of interest and the policy on paid-contribution disclosure are relevant.
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Specifically, your user page states that this account is for "the ConvoWizard research team at Cornell University", which means that it is being shared between more than one person. In order to be within compliance of Wikipedia's username policy, each member of the team must create an individual account for themselves. Example: "James at Cornell-DNM-Lab" would be a perfectly acceptable username, which is in compliance of the policy. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:27, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You would also be well advised to review Wikipedia's conflict of interest rules. We are not interested in what people wish to say about topics with which they have close associations. Topics must meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines by having evidence of existing significant coverage in relialble and independent sources. Sources affiliated with the topic are little value here, apart from verifying the most basic facts and figures. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:36, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi all,
Thanks for the heads up, and we apologize for the inconvenience! Per @Oshwah's advice, we'll have each lab member create their own individual accounts, and we just wanted to give you a heads up beforehand so you're not surprised to see new "(Name) at Cornell-DNM-Lab" accounts popping up from the same IP :-)
We also wanted to take a moment to address @Drm310's concerns about conflict of interest. We are aware of the policy surrounding this, and want to offer our reassurances that our intent with this account (and, by extension, with any individual accounts we make going forward) was not to edit any articles about ourselves, our work, Cornell, etc. Rather, as researchers who do work related to Wikipedia, we wanted to establish a presence that would enable us to engage with the community, hear feedback, and take questions. While our talk page did include references to some of our work, these were intended purely to help other Wikipedia editors know more about who we are and what we do, and not as self-promotion. Hopefully this helps to clarify what we were trying to accomplish, but of course, if you still have any concerns about anything we said here (or need further clarification) please don't hesitate to reply and let us know --- we really do want to make sure we do this right!
And again, sorry for the trouble. Cornell-DNM-Lab (talk) 15:58, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries at all! It happens, and we completely understand. That's why we take the time and reach out to users and assist them with policies like this. :-) Like I said earlier, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or need assistance. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:06, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
