Re: Erste bank

Hi there. Apologies for the tardiness of my reply, I've been away lately. I presume that by "editing" the Erste Bank article you mean the removal of the text as in this edit. Well, as was pointed out by User:Jklamo in a previous reversion, pretty much all the text you added was taken verbatim from documents from the Erste Bank website (such as this one). Please note that such content (i.e. virtually all material lifted straight from an internet site) is not permitted on Wikipedia as it is not freely licensed, and editors are encouraged to aggressively remove it on sight. The copyright policy is non-negotiable and is considered a cornerstone of Wikipedia. For more on this, see Wikipedia's copyright violations policy in full.

A secondary problem with the material you added was that certain passages (e.g. "solidly positioned to capture the growth potential") read like PR fluff and therefore do not conform to the (also non-negotiable) neutral point of view policy. If you are interested in making further contributions to the articles on corporations on Wikipedia, it might be an idea to first read this set of FAQs for businesses to get an idea of what is and isn't acceptable. Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission explains the full process for using others' material and communicating permission. Most importantly: when using material with the permission of a third party, the copyright holder must give express consent for submissions to be used freely not only by Wikipedia, but also its downstream users. Such use might include commercial use, for which the contributor is not entitled to royalties or compensation. Quoting the guideline: "this means that a contributor's work might appear in print or digital versions of this encyclopedia that are sold in stores... it will certainly be used by other websites that legally copy our content."

Please note again, however, that material which does not meet the neutral tone expected of an encyclopaedia article is liable to be removed regardless of whether it is freely licensed or not. Regards, Gr1st (talk) 20:04, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
