Non-free rationale for File:Bioscience Resource Project logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bioscience Resource Project logo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. How do I restore images?

Hi. It seems that I have mislabelled the uploaded images as non-free/fair use whereas it should be 'Creative Commons Attributions'. Please help me restore the deleted images. Thank you. Coralhead (talk) 04:01, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately the creative commons license under which the work is licensed is incompatible with Wikipedia's licensing terms, as it specifies no derivatives and no commercial use. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:43, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

,
Okay, so does this mean that I cannot use the images at all? I would appreciate a more clear direction on HOW to resolve this matter. So the problem at hand: the creative commons licence is incompatible with Wikipedia's licensing terms. Is there any other way I can include the organization's logo in the article? It is rather important to have the logo as a means of visual identification for the article. Thanks again. Coralhead (talk) 03:52, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, an article about a company or organisation typically does include a low-resolution version of the logo under the "Fair use" rules. At Wikipedia:Upload file, select one of the options labelled "It is the logo for..."; or, go to WP:REFUND and explain that you want to claim "fair use". But only do this after your article has been moved from your user page into the main encyclopedia, otherwise you'll just get a fresh set of warnings about non-free files being used in user space. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:30, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Bioscience Resource Project logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Bioscience Resource Project logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Improvement
[edit]Here are some suggestions on how you can improve the BSR article :
- More inline sourcing in those sections with few/no sources
- Avoid repeated mentions of "this is a non-profit" because this looks like you are trying to cover up something (I would only mention it in the infobox)
- Remove/ reword the philosophy & mission section so it is more neutral
- Compress the "Project activities" section
- Avoid using external links in the main sections
- Change "Controversial Landmark Publications" to something more neutral & compress the subsections of that a bit further if possible
I think that about sums up everything that could be done to improve the article. The article isn't all that bad really, so this shouldn't take too long. Good luck. --Mrmatiko (talk) 09:48, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
