sandbox cats

[edit]

hope you dont mind but sandbox items better not in live cats JarrahTree 12:57, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@JarrahTree: It seems that you fixed the category problem for me with the nowiki tag. Thanks. My story is that I am just getting over a kangaroo tick annoying me. Actually, I didn't know that anything within the sandbox could get out. I was just starting to set up a new entry. Collywolly (talk) 01:32, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

check my user page about 3 edits ago (ill revert to it) - I watched in real life a kangaroo driven crazy by ticks - I have had some bad bouts with them some years ago, I understand... JarrahTree 03:31, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

Hello, Collywolly

Thank you for creating Percy J. Marks.

User:Blythwood, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thanks for creating this! I've linked it to a Wikidata item on him and that activated the authority control tag. My one concern was that the first sentence was maybe a bit too close to the original source, with the string "Joseph Marks, London-born storekeeper, and his" identical-this is the kind of thing that careful editing can avoid.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Blythwood}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

I've also added a "for" template on the Percy Marks page so that people can find the article more easily. Hope that helps! Blythwood (talk) 06:15, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

{{Re|Blythwood}}

Thanks for looking over this page and for your constructive comments. I have changed the opening sentence, but if you still think that it is not correct, please change it. Over the years my main contact with other Wikipedians relates to perceived (theirs) breach of copyright. I have given up, and just do what the correspondent suggests.

I have been a long time contributor, but am a bit long in the tooth now to learn all of the ins and outs of templates and such. Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by a "for" template.

As for Ernest Marks and his Jewishness. My mother was Jewish as were many generations of relatives before her. I don't consider myself Jewish. Since there is no reference to his Jewishness in the article I don't see how we can assume that he was Jewish i.e. that he identified as a Jew. May be the article needs some text to show his Jewishness.

I added the prepend and the postpend but it doesn't seem to have worked. Here it is again.

@JarrahTree: Sorry thatr earlier message wasn't meant for you!

@Blythwood:

PS. I added the prepend and the postpend but it doesn't seem to have worked so I sent it the way I usually do.

Collywolly, no problem and hope what I changed was useful. The ping did work! The "for" template is the bit I added at the start of the Percy Marks article that adds a statement saying "for the Australian lawyer, see Percy J. Marks." Yes, I saw the previous mention of copyright and was worried someone else would be concerned about the text so thought I'd mention it. Thanks, too for finding the second picture of Ernest Samuel Marks-I decided that got us to the point where it's worth having a Wikimedia Commons category for him too, which is linked from his article on the left.
