Thank you for your constructive approach. Libertas

Please reconsider your choice to leave the Soviet discussion. Just about every user save one on that user page is well informed and interested in an informative article. They are just not as vocal and vitriolic. Your input has been very helpful and insightful. It will be sad to lose you in the discussion. 172 07:20, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

No, 172, my nervs and self-respect are more valuable for me, I'll not change my decision. Cmapm 07:27, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

For once I agree with 172, I disagree with everything you say but would defend to the death your right to say it. Libertas

Dear Старт, thanks for your comments on my suggestion. I have made the appropriate changes. I hope you approve. Cheers --Etimbo | Talk 14:40, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

History of Antarctica ... and the Romanov dynasty

[edit]

Hello. Thanks for your work at History of Antarctica. I've added one line about Edward Bransfield, too, for completeness sake ( and to de-emphasis John Davies ...)

Let's work on another selected anniversary that is coming up soon -- the founding of the Romanov dynasty. 1613 shows Feb. 7, but Michael I of Russia has a different date on Feb.21. Neither Romanov nor Zemsky Sobor shows a date. I suspect Feb.21 is the Gregorian date for the Julian Feb.7, but I am not sure. Can you help clarify this, please ? Thanks in advance. -- PFHLai 10:35, 2005 Feb 3 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help. I'll post the anniversary on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/February 21, to be featured on the MainPage on February 21. Спасибо ! (I copied this from Common phrases in various languages.) :-) -- PFHLai 08:06, 2005 Feb 5 (UTC)

Nelli Kim

[edit]
  • Thanks for letting me know; I was too hasty. I've now added it to the copyvio page. (I'll know in future.) Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 10:19, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
  • I suggest that you read Wikipedia:Deletion policy, particularly the sections relating to the lag times and the cleanup squads. Uncle G 02:30, 2005 Feb 21 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry about this long delay; I notice that at least one admin is dealing with the backlog of copyvios, so with any luck the Nelli Kim article will be up soon. At least it will be a good one now. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:01, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

NB for myself

[edit]

I was granted a permission from E.V.Avsenev, the creator of the website http://www.gymnast.ru/. I'll use it to write articles about gymnasts. Cmapm 19:19, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

It appears Avsenev only granted permission for use within Wikipedia, and not general GFDL permission. See WP:ICT, where {{permission}} is listed as a non-free license. Perhaps Avsenev would be willing to license under the GFDL if you explain this issue to him? dbenbenn | talk 03:09, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Nelli Kim

[edit]

Hi Cmapm, I fixed up Nelli Kim. Sorry it took so long—WP:CP is really overloaded, and we don't have enough people willing to help deal with these constant chores. In the future, when you need a copyvio to be expedited, it might be a good idea to mention it at WP:AN. Cheers, dbenbenn | talk 03:05, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi, David (or Dbenbenn if you prefer it)! Thanks, for the expedition of copyvio, concerning this topic! As concerns {{permission}} vs GFDL, I emailed Avsenev with corresponding question, waiting for the answer now. I need your advice then:
  • should I alter my templates {{gymnast ru}} and {{gymnast ru image}} in some way, or maybe add {{permission}} template in the articles after my templates, right now, which will remain there, if I'll get a negative answer from Avsenev;
  • should I alter my templates in some way or maybe add {{GFDL}} template in the articles after my templates if I get a positive answer from Avsenev?
What do you think? Sorry, I'm not an expert in copyrights, and therefore can't be helpful in your work. But if you need some help in other fields, e.g. in topics, mentioned on my user page, feel free to contact me through my talk page. Once again, many thanks and best regards! Cmapm 14:50, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I added {{permission}} to {{gymnast ru image}}. If Avsenev accepts the GFDL, you should change it to {{GFDL}}, and write a few sentences at {{gymnast ru}} indicating that. But the {{GFDL}} template is only for use in images—text is assumed to be GFDL anyway. See {{planetmath}} for an example. dbenbenn | talk 18:13, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry for violating the communication style preferred by you. And I'm grateful for your answer and help! Cmapm 19:06, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
What? Oh, no problem. Perhaps now the pastel box at the top of User talk:Dbenbenn is clearer. dbenbenn | talk 19:15, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yes, it is. And BTW, this is a good idea. I'll use it since now too. Cmapm 20:12, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading her unaltered image! My respect. Cmapm 11:24, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

No problem mate. By the way do you know if anything is being done to mark the 20th anniversary of her death on August 25th this year? I was thinking about emailing Samantha Smith Elementary School as they are about the only ones that might know. PMA 12:17, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't know yet. A piece of additional info I have known is the exact place, where she was buried (not to be shared worldwide, I think, I can e-mail it to you personally, if you desire). If you will have known something, please, let me know or include into Wiki. I suppose, that in Russia there will be no more than a mention in the news (a big shame on post-Soviet Russia for everything concerning her name). I don't know for USA, this would be a valuable info, although I'll be unable to go there myself in the nearest future. Cmapm 12:46, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Sure - email me. PMA 12:55, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Archery at the Summer Olympics

[edit]

Your contributions to this set of articles are more than impressive! Cmapm 21:36, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I would love for Wikipedia to have basically all the extant information about the Olympics as I hate having to look in four or five different places for the answer to every question I have every two years. I'm beginning to realize just how huge of a project that is ;). - Jonel 00:29, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Geo coordinates

[edit]

Thanks for your kind words. I've made something for the moon, see the moon talk page. -- Egil 21:48, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Its you that started this project! Absolutely fantastic concerning coordinates on the Earth! Well, your experiments on the Moon maps are good themselves, but the online sources are scanty at the present. I didn't find better ones neither for the Moon nor for the entire sky (in contrast, the downloadable maps are in plenty). I personally think, that first general zoomable in and out map should be presented to realize, where the object is located (I didn't find online resources for this at all). And only after that the "image resources" should go (there are few of them, but they either require something additional or are without "global zoom in/out" feature). So, in short, your work is excellent, but the web is not yet prepared for the realization of some ideas. Cmapm 12:38, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Ударения

[edit]

--ajvol 16:52, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Cmapm 17:19, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Please contribute to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Samantha Smith. PMA 04:41, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Can you try and see if you can locate these books -

  • Arthur and Samantha Smith: Journey to the Soviet Union, Little Brown and Co., 1985. 1st ed. ISBN 0316801763
  • Anne Galicich: Samantha Smith: A Journey for Peace, Minneapolis Dillon Press, Inc., 1987. ISBN 0875183670

The person who cited them in the article doesn't appear to have actually used them (an old trick on Wiki :( ) and i'm sure they contain the info needed to bring the article up to FA status. PMA 13:17, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I think, that user, who created the article, used not books, but internet resources. These references were added by myself, when I edited the article for the first (as I remember) time. I added info about Artek from her book and info about her birthplace and moving to Manchester from Galicich book. I don't have these books. I only 1.found a chapter about Artek from her book, translated into Russian. 2.found excerpts from Galicich book [1] The problem is that I'm not a perfect translator. Although there is a lot of info in the latter link in English, it will be hard for me to make a short summary of it. But I'll try to include some info from there, especially about her early years. Cmapm 14:44, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

--- Thats ok mate - just seemed odd that the article was so brief if those two books (her own book and the biography of her) had been used as references. PMA 14:48, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I put in the general location of where she is buried but just to stop someone coming along and saying she was cremated when that isn't true. PMA 14:02, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

All right. Also, may be "thieves who steal non-ferrous metals" in English should be expressed in a different way, than I did :"non-ferrous metals' thieves"? Cmapm 14:12, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Samantha Smith

[edit]

In fact, italicized part of that sentence was a quote, although I believe it did not seem like it :-) Download this [2] .pdf file of the official report (4.5 M) and look on its page 16 (20th "pdf page") at the lead sentence of the section 1.15 - "Survival Aspects" to ensure. Although, I think, the way you altered the sentence didn't change much the essense and may be left as it is now. Cmapm 09:28, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I changed the sentence back to the way it was when you added it, except using doublequotes instead of the italicizing double-singlequotes. I still left out the comment from the middle of the sentence as it was confusing. The quoted sentence is exactly as it is in the report, including the misspelling of "altitude" as "attitude" (originally, I thought that you were the one who had made the typo), albeit with a "[sic]" note. –MementoVivere 10:36, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting. I can say, you weren't the first, who was confused by that word :-) Thanks for adding that note for future confused people. I removed that external link from the article, because the report is already referenced, namely - through a link in "External links" section "Air Crash - description with a link to official report". Also, some people don't like ext. links to be included into the article, see FAC discussion, [User:Shauri]]'s note in particular. Thanks for your attention to the article. Cmapm 12:41, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Yes, completely agree with your last change "Air Crash"--> "Aircraft Accident Report", this made a link much more noticeable. Cmapm 12:55, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

i am sure we can do an article that does Samantha proud PMA 17:07, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Only now I noticed your copyedit and a nice article about an asteroid, created by you. My respect and best regards. 212.199.249.206 (aka Cmapm)

Thanks for your comment. I want to see this article featured too. Denni 00:13, 2005 Apr 13 (UTC)

Hi. Interestingly, there are more ironical similarities between two accidents: in 1976 and in 1985. Not only planes were very similar, but both accidents occured during localizer approach:1976 initially struck a hill and 1985 struck the forest. You can read (I think, you know this already) a brief description of 1976 here [3] and a brief description of 1985 with a link to pdf with the full report here [4]. However, I'll not add these details into the article, because my English is too bad. 212.199.249.206 10:50, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC) (aka Cmapm)

Like wise, thanks for your comment. Very, very chilly instead all of the similarities between both crashes. Feel free to update the article as you wish!
Happy trails around wikipedia! Thank you and God bless you my friend!!!

"Soviet Union" vs "USSR" in Olympic articles

[edit]

Hi. Well, "USSR" is more commonly used in Olympic articles, including all medal tables on the IOC website and here in Wiki. Another argument for the "USSR" is that the IOC country code (URS) is a 3-letters-shortcut for the French URSS which is USSR in English. I am going to make appropriate changes.

I don't really have a personal preference. I chose "Soviet Union" because our article for the country is at Soviet Union, but "USSR" is fine with me. I will use that from here on out. -- Jonel 04:26, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Another proposal: I think, that besides the flag, an image of the NOC symbol should be present (if it can be found). Like Chuq included it for Australia and six or so other countries and like I included it for the USSR Cmapm 20:08, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Excellent idea. As long as one can be found that doesn't present copyright problems, those would be great additions to the pages. -- Jonel 04:26, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Moscow Olympics

[edit]

You cannot say it was the first time an olympics was held in a "socialist" country as socialism is such a broad term meaning any from Maoist-communism to Moderately left leaning democratic parties in Western Europe. London Olympics 1948 was at the time of a "socialist" Labour government. Although the Soviet Union did use the word socialism, refering to it as a socialist state is a perjorative phrase in the west, used by those who generally right leaning. It was the first "communist" country to host the olympics. Dainamo 13:23, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism at Carly Patterson

[edit]

It was just vandalised by 67.180.202.155 I'm sure it's the same person as 67.180.1.104 who vandalised the same page four days ago. Should these two addresses or maybe the whole 67.180.* network be placed into Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress? Cmapm 21:02, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It would probably be a good idea to wait until the same IP has vandalized the page at least twice before someone adds it to Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. When that happens, though, feel free to add it-- I might if I see the vandalism before you do. Cheers! --bdesham 20:53, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you had claimed this image was public domain. Could you back up that claim. I can't find any copyright information at the referenced site. If not perhaps you could make a fair use claim.

Thanks. Zeimusu | (Talk page) 28 June 2005 12:48 (UTC)

Hi. Well, for this image, I didn't dig into copyright issue details, because I used existing image with the same source and the same tag as an example (Image:Ray Ewry.jpg). Perhaps I was wrong to do so. Unfortunately, I haven't enough time to dig into it now, if you believe, that another tag should be more suitable, would you be so kind to replace it yourself? I'm sorry. Best regards. Cmapm 28 June 2005 13:06 (UTC)
Thanks for a quick reply. I'll deal with it the best I can. Zeimusu | (Talk page) 28 June 2005 13:10 (UTC)

The Great Fire of Moscow

[edit]

Hi, The Great Fire of Moscow started on September 14 New Style (September 2 Old Style) [5] (can't find better English source). As I know, namely New Style dates are used for Anniversaries (see e.g. Aleksandr Pushkin). Cmapm 14:30, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Cmapm. So the dates on Napoleon's invasion of Russia were Old Style dates, eh ? That explains it. Thank you for the clarification. I'm now more confident about the date. I almost took this historic fire off Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/September 14. Thank you very much for your help. -- PFHLai 12:48, 2005 September 12 (UTC)
Yes, it is, they were Old Style dates, I had fixed this in that article. Oh, don't mention it, this was pretty easy, as many Russian sources exist on this issue. BTW, in one of them is even mentioned, that fires began in the evening of September 14 [6]. Cmapm 00:27, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know much about the topic, but I wonder if the Great Fire of Moscow (1812) deserves a page on its own with Great Fire of Moscow as a disambiguation page, listing other historic fires of Moscow: List of historic fires has Moscow burnt in 1547 and 1812, and the Moscow page mentions fires in 1238 and 1571. ... Was Moscow really burnt down so many times ? Scary .... -- PFHLai 00:48, 2005 September 13 (UTC)
May be it does deserve. Unfortunately, I don't know much on historical topics too and I'm currently deeply involved into other topics. But I've just found a very good link (in Russian, though...) with a chronology of the main events in the history of Moscow [7]. Yes, according to it, there were large fires in 1238, 1547, 1571, 1812 (may be even more, I've looked up only these ones there). However, in that source isn't said, whether Moscow was burnt completely or not after each of these fires... Cmapm 01:17, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Soviet sportspeople

[edit]

Thanks for unstubbing Leonid Zhabotinsky and Arkady Vorobyev. It's nice to see someone caring about the great Soviet sportsmen of the past. Galina Zybina, Viktor Saneyev, Vladimir Golubnichy, Nikolay Zimyatov, Boris Shakhlin, Tatyana Kazankina all need our attention. BTW, why don't you announce your new articles at Portal:Russia/New_article_announcements? Cheers, Ghirlandajo 22:54, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind message. I didn't announce, because I didn't know :) But should expanded stubs be added there or just new articles? BTW, after I knew about Vasily Alexeev's achievements I thought I should add inf. about him before I contributed into the article about Leonid Zhabotinsky. Cmapm 23:03, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO we may announce not only new articles but considerable extensions of stubs. For instance, your work on Zhabotinsky de-facto produced a new article, so I thought it fit to announce it. There is a separate notice-board for other announcements, you will find a link to it at the top of the page. --Ghirlandajo 23:14, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Democratic Republic of Aghanistan

[edit]

Hello there ! I have read your talk page and it's really interesting to find someone that is concern about the articles related to the former USSR. Well, I have been working in several pages related to the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, mainly because on the Internet (and here in the United States) basically blame all of Afghanistan's problems to that war.

Personally, I have discovered that the real problem of that country is the negative influence of Islamic Radicalism, and that the Soviet invasion didn't create much of the destruction that razed that country.

On December 27, it will be another aniversary of the death of President Hafizullah Amin, the Start of the Soviet war in Afghanistan and the change of government from Khalq to Parcham (whithin the PDPA). I wish you could help me with some info about the history of these charactes. Some of the info is in Russian, wich is a Language that unfortunatelly, I don't understand (I'm from Latin America).

Cheers! and glad to see if you can help me. Messhermit 02:25, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'll be glad to help you to translate information from Russian pages. By the way, some time ago I translated some info from Russian pages about Tajbeg's seizure, which I included into the article Alpha Group.
But, as you can see, I currently make very few edits to Wikipedia, this is because I have very little time. Nevertheless, I'll do my best to help you. Best regards! Cmapm 01:38, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the support ! Currently, on December 27, it will be another aniversary of the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. That's why I would like to improve the quality of the article and push for it to appear in the main page (since it's an important point in soviet and world history).

The article about the Soviet Afghan war, Hafizullah Amin, Babrak Karmal and the Khalq Faction of the PDPA are under a lot of modifications recently. If you can find info that is important (and in russian), it would add a great contribution to the quality of the above mentioned. Take your time, if it's not posible to do it before December 27, there will be another year to improve them :D. Thanks A lot ! Messhermit 01:59, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re:World Festival of Youth and Students

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for your comment, I want to complete all the stubs about the editions of the WFYS, however I lack time and sources, my sources are in spanish and I have to translate it to english, being a portuguese speaker, it is a bit hard. I would appreciate the coin! Really, it would be great. And if you could also help in the articles it would be good too. I can share Portuguese songs and pictures with you, if you want. By the way, I have a huge respect to the Russian people, who I admire very much for the 1917 revolution, all the anti nazi struggle and the aid to the Portuguese Communist Party during the fascist regime in Portugal. It is too sad seeing thousands of poor immigrants from Ukraine and Russia here in Portugal, after what they achieved in the past, I help them all the times I can, because the majority are much more respectful and instructed than the Portuguese people, an heritage from the Soviet times, just like you state in your personal page. I would very much like to colaborate in stuff you need, just ask. Regards!

Yes, the lack of time and sources is my problem too. Besides, having very few time, I'm now mostly concentrated on sports topics, mainly about gymnastics and Soviet gymnasts. But I hope to have some more time in the nearest future. In my turn, if you'll need some stuff, feel free to ask me. Besides the coin, I have also some information about WFYS, including few pictures, from Soviet sources, unfortunately there is copyright problems, but I think one or two pictures can be uploaded to Wiki under the "fair use" copyright tag. And I have lyrics of the anthem of DY, but only in Russian, and I can also provide a link to the mp3 file if you want.
If you have Portuguese songs or pictures related to WFYS, I would like to hear/see them!
I stay aside from politics and I don't feel any sympathy to any parties in the place, where I live. But I feel a very very strong nostalgia to the Soviet times, and if anyone asks if I want to go back 30-40 years to the USSR, I would answer "Yes, without any doubt!!!!". Best wishes! Cmapm 01:15, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You have a russian version of the anthem of DY? I have one in Portuguese, could we exchange? my email is afonso.silva@gmail.com if you can, send it, or suggest another way of exchanging the files, if you aren't interested, just ignore this, thanks anyway! Afonso Silva 21:20, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to send you the anthem and another song: "We say this" (music by G.Movsesyan, lyrics by L.Oshanin), written for the 11th WFYS in 1978. I like it very much, it's refrain is translated into English is:
Sky above me, sky above me, as sombrero, as sombrero
Golden shore, golden shore - Varadero, Varadero
Cuba is far, Cuba is far, Cuba is near, Cuba is near
This is said, this is said - by us.
I'm singing it now :) If you didn't receive my letter I'll try to send these songs one's again separately. Cmapm 00:29, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't received your letter, sorry. If you could send it again it would be great and if you want I can send you portuguese songs, just give me your email. Thanks. Afonso Silva 12:15, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your voting on my RFA. It has finished with the result 88/14/9, and I am promoted. I am really overwhelmed with the amount of support I have got. With some of you we have edited many articles as a team, with some I had bitter arguments in the past, some of you I consider to be living legends of Wikipedia and some nicks I in my ignorance never heard before. I love you all and I am really grateful to you.

If you feel I can help you or Wikipedia as a human, as an editor or with my newly acquired cleaning tools, then just ask and I will be happy to assist. If you will feel that I do not live up to your expectation and renegade on my promises, please contact me. Maybe it was not a malice but just ignorance or a short temper. Commemorative coins of USSR

Hey, thnx for the artice, quite a nice list. I was just wonderin if you happen to have a few of the coins, pics of them, or know where we could get some pics? Such a long list of coins needs a few pretty pics. THNX Joe I 22:17, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thanks for your comment. Well, there are some pics of those coins in Wikipedia's Wikicommons: [8] (see "Anniversary coins" section there), although I think, most of the scans there are too dark.
Pictures of almost all coins (maybe except silver ones) are available through "external links" section of the article created by me. If you have difficulties navigating Russian language websites, here are direct links to gold coins' pics, here - to platinum coins' pics, here - to palladium coins' pics and here - to copper-nickel coins' pics. I don't know, which is their copyright status, but perhaps a couple of them could be uploaded at least under "fair use".
Personally, I have 12 copper-nickel coins: 1 ruble coins - Olympiad in Moscow Emblem (1977), 20th anniv. of Victory (1965), 30th anniv. of Victory (1975), 100th anniv. of Lenin (1970), 50 years of Soviet power (1965), Festival in Moscow (1985), Maxim Gorky (1988), Taras Shevchenko (1989), Gagarin (1981); 5 ruble coins - Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kiev (1988), 1000 years of Russia monument (1988), Monument to Peter the Great (1988). You can see, that first 5 of them already exist in "commons". When I have time, I'll scan the remaining 7 and probably do lighter scans of 5 existing ones.
I also have a great many of Soviet regular coins and some banknotes. Cmapm 23:24, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Women in Russian/Soviet military history

[edit]

Our colleague Durova came up with a suggestion: "If my understanding is correct, the Soviet Union had more female combatants in World War II than any other other major participant. If you're willing to handle the bulk of the research I can supplement a little and copyedit on whatever aspect of the subject strikes your fancy". As I have little expertise in Soviet history, I ask those who take interest in the Soviet period to colloborate with Durova on this worthwhile subject. Master

[edit]

Removing Master of Sports of the USSR was a mistake on my part, I hadn't intended to do that. Very sorry. Tim | meep in my general direction 07:45, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Soviet Antarctic Expedition

[edit]

I agree, I'm in the process of uploading some of the photographs from the PDF onto commons. Check it out... commons:Soviet Antarctic Expedition. :) Hopefully we can expand the article soon. I'm not entirely sure that it is an appropriate name, but I think its ok for now, feel free to make suggestions :) PS. What did you think of the idea for an infobox ? - FrancisTyers 01:50, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just saying sorry here as well as on your IP talk page. I accidently reverted your changes trying to stop the vandal! Thanks for fixing it. Orangutan 13:44, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. What changes are you speaking about? Cmapm 17:55, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gymnastics

[edit]

According to your userpage, gymnastics was one of your hobbies, besides, English seems to be your native language (or at least you write in it at advanced level). Then why had you stopped contributions to related articles? :( I was waiting for a few words about compulsories... At least I, consider your edits very valuable.

P.S. If you don't like me speaking to you for any reasons, feel free to tell me this. I'll understand. Cmapm 02:34, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cmapm! I don't mind your speaking to me at all. You've been very nice to me and you've been a great help on the gymnastics-related articles. Thanks for all your encouragement!
I actually hadn't realized that I hadn't updated the gymnastics articles in a few days. I've worked on brushing up the articles for some of the British and Brazilian gymnasts, and I've been thinking about how to go about writing about compulsories. I'll definitely be getting back to work now. :) Namaste, Mademoiselle Sabina 03:28, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I forgot to mention this on my talk page--English is indeed my first language, although I wasn't born in an anglophone country. Thank you for the kind words! :)
Hi again, Mademoiselle Sabina! I've seen your latest addition to Artistic gymnastics article, it was great! Sorry, I hadn't taken into account, that you might edit biography articles instead of editing topics on general subjects. And I thought, that you stopped edits at all :) And once more I want to say, that I like your gymnastics-related editing very much!!! Cheers! Cmapm 09:12, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your kind words! Don't worry, I'm not leaving Wiki! =) I'm probably going to change the userpage back in a few days when I cool down somewhat. Luckily most of the editors on Wiki I have met have been extremely nice, but there are always a few who aren't. Someone on Wiki I intensely dislike--because I feel they are pretentious and do not research the edits they make--had changed a word in my gymnastics article to something completely nonsensical and I momentarily lost patience. I'm fine. :) Thank you for the concern and the words of support! They were needed today.
Thank you, I stay here :) By the way, as concerns a category of people, whom you dislike, some time ago I had heard similar things from another user, a researcher, who had scientific degree in history. Besides, there is a wide variety of other cinic users here - trolls, vandals, etc. There is a long article Criticism of Wikipedia about Wiki's problems.
Feel free to edit or delete these my comments when you shall cool down, if you want. And, please, keep in mind my words in the last sentence of my previous comment. I didn't say them only for support, I really think so. Cmapm 21:10, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your message

[edit]

I've already answered the points you made elesewhere, but just to reiterate. First, Wikipedia guiedlines recommend that, where possible, when there's a difference in usage between two varieties of English, editors should use vocabulary or grammar that is shared or neutral (rather than insisting on using a local form). As "alternate" is wrong in U.K. English (and regarded as wrong by many educated U.S.-English speakers too, incidentally), while "alternative" is correct in both variants, I changed it to "alternative". I had no idea that it would provoke the reaction that it did. Secondly, at no point was I aggressive towards MS, nor have I ever engaged in personal attacks on her (though she has done so on me); to make it easier to see what happened, I've given a brief account at User talk:Mel Etitis/Mademoiselle Sabina. I think that that makes it clear that I didn't instigate any sort of hostility.

If you'd had your e-mail enabled, I'd probably have been somewhat franker in expressing my opinion of this storm in a teacup. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:43, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, now I see, that even the Manual of Style is not an argument for you. BTW, you didn't mention, that you explained your controversial IMHO revert of Mademoiselle Sabina's edit as "some tidying", the remark, which I believe to be biased, and which, I think, actually provoked all further discussion.
Even if I'd had my e-mail enabled, I should not respond to you, because this would be "a conversation behind backs" of other users IMHO (sorry for my bias). And finally, I have no idea, what and to whom do you want to prove by creating a "personal account" about an involved user. I was able to track the history of that discussion without this.
