it was a dead link

- First of all, when you removed the reference, it wasn't ClueBot who restored it, so I'm not sure why you're here. Second, we shouldn't remove dead references. See WP:DEADREF. -- Gestrid (talk) 05:33, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

I was trying to understand why someone volunteering on the Help Desk objected to what a certain editor was asking about. The recent archiving of this talk page doesn't make sense, as it says "2013" but only one topic was from that year, and most of the topics left on the page are not from more recent years.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:19, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Template for ClueBot III generated huge list of totally irrelevant items on talk page.
See User talk:Nagle. ClueBot's archive box there has a huge number of totally irrelevant entries, starting with this:
! (disambiguation) !Kung !Xoo !Xóõ !Xũ mythology !Kung mythology !!! !Xũ !Ô language !Gã!nge language !Gã!ne language !'O-!khung language
No idea where this is coming from. The template generating this reads
{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
|archiveprefix=
|age=720
|format=Y/F
|archivebox=yes
}}
Very strange, and looks like a bug. John Nagle (talk) 04:52, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- @John Nagle: I reported this at VPT 2013. I saw the problem after adding an archive box at diff, and it was fixed at diff. I never bothered trying to work out what was going on. Johnuniq (talk) 05:56, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- So this has been broken for three years?' And the only workaround is to turn off the archive box? John Nagle (talk) 20:37, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- You need to set archiveprefix correctly. It is a required field. Set it to User talk:Nagle/Archives/ and the next time the bot updates the archive list, it will do so correctly. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 20:56, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) More info: the bot maintains this bogus list at User:ClueBot III/Indices/User talk:Nagle. This edit [1] is where ClueBot III totally trashed the real index and replaced it with a list of junk entries. John Nagle (talk) 20:58, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Bot archives threads twice
Noticed this while looking at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Video_games/Archive_125. Not sure what's going on here. GamerPro64 21:54, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Request for archiving a talk page for user Chanheigeorge
Could archiving a talk page for a user Chanheigeorge because is too long. --31.0.124.52 (talk) 09:49, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- We can't compel a user to archive their own talk page, although it is recommended, and Chanheigeorge's talk page already has a pink banner at the top encouraging them to do this. Help on how to set up archiving is found here: Noyster (talk), 10:23, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Talk:Newspaper endorsements in the United States presidential election, 2016
The bot is failing to archive Talk:Newspaper endorsements in the United States presidential election, 2016. Elisfkc (talk) 17:18, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
False negatives?
Is there a way to report false negatives? This edit surely would've been caught if the offending word was spelled properly, the misspelling could probably be added to the list of flagged words. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:43, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: There is no blacklist for words. There are many, many reasons why CBNG may not revert an edit and it can be hard to tell why a bot did or did not revert a particular edit. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:59, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:04, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
