Are you a newcomer to Wikipedia? Here are some resources that you may find helpful:
- There's this video that explains some of the basics of how Wikipedia works. It's aimed more towards readers than editors, but it can give a decent foundation of some things to be aware of before you start editing. This video by an experienced Wikipedian provides more substantial advice.
- The Wikipedia Adventure. This is a very basic (and somewhat eccentric) editing tutorial.
- Do you have a conflict-of-interest? Read this guide. It's also important to be aware of an ongoing scam.
- Category:All stub articles which is organized alphabetically and by topic. All these articles could be expanded!
- This is a tutorial for what to know if you wanted to create an article. Our guideline on what is notable for inclusion on the site is a crucial part of this process.
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch – advice on phrasing to avoid when editing
- This page is a glossary of different terms used on Wikipedia that can help you understand what people are talking about if you come across an unfamiliar acronym.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory – this is a list of wikiprojects. Some are way more active than others but it's a decent way to try and find groups of articles that match your interests. I'm particularly fond of Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada and the associated challenge for improving articles.
- This is the perennial sources list, which can be helpful if you're not sure if something is a reliable source. If it's not on this list and you have concerns, try this noticeboard.
- If you are in a disagreement with another editor, you can try asking for a third opinion. There are also other processes for dispute resolution.
- The Wikipedia Library – this cannot be used until you have 6 months tenure, no active blocks, and 500 edits. However, once you meet the criteria, it is a very useful resource. There is also the Wikipedia:Resource Exchange. I have subscriptions to the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and Niagara Falls Review, if you ever want me to verify something for you. I also have access to the James A. Gibson library at Brock University.

- Hello, Hannah, so sorry about this. The text in the logo on this Creality wiki page（Creality） is white, which obviously makes it difficult for users to read. - @Collin2022: You would need to upload a different version of the file if you wish to change it. You can do that by going to File:Creality logo.png, scrolling to the bottom, and clicking "upload a new version of this file". If you are being paid to edit this article, you must disclose this, as undisclosed paid editing is against our terms of use. There is also this guide for contributing with a conflict of interest. - Thank you for your patient guidance. I think I've run into a big problem. I tried following your method to upload, but it said I needed to create a Commons account. When I tried to create one, it notified me that my IP was banned. Awkward...I feel like I'm about to give up。

- @Collin2022: I've asked a few other editors to try and understand what might be going on here, and they said that you must have accidentally done something wrong, because it shouldn't have directed you to Commons, as this is non free content. Make sure you scroll down on that image I linked, it should say:
Below is the main upload form. For a simpler interface and more specific instructions, use Wikipedia:Upload.

- @Rohan TheWikipedian: Logos qualify as non-free content and thus need to be uploaded locally (here on the English Wikipedia instead of another site) and only used on the relevant article. - It's fine, miscommunication happens through text sometimes. I just felt obligated to say something because I've seen this cumulative attitude towards how recall as a process is fundamentally broken and there are indeed people like me who think it isn't. It's important that those opinions are respected, that non-admins don't feel like they're the target of a double standard, and that signing something they believe in doesn't make them "the problem". I just don't like the potential of a chilling effect that has happened in some of these conversations, you know? I've become more confident in speaking up for people since becoming an admin and I want to keep doing that, because I still remember what it was like to be on the other side of things. - I appreciate the clarification and your way of thinking about things. I think it's still a bit hard for me to process sometimes because I have this inner sense of being a non-admin (I didn't run for RfA until I'd already been here for five years) and I'm only slightly active in actual admin work. I also haven't really changed all that much, but my circumstances have. I feel like people sometimes put me on a pedestal and it scares me. I'm not sure how much of that is tied to being an admin and how much of that is tied to being Hannah Clover. So I've definitely had a lot to think about this year. Moderator Tools newsletter - Issue #2
[edit]Welcome to issue #2 of the Moderator Tools newsletter! It's been about a year since the first one (sorry for the delay), but we're excited to tell you what our team has been working on since then, and where you can guide our ongoing and upcoming work.
Automoderator

Automoderator is now feature-complete for its initial release! Automoderator is a highly configurable automated anti-vandalism tool which reverts edits that a machine learning model determines to be vandalism. It can be enabled, disabled, and configured at any time by administrators via a Community Configuration form. Automoderator is now in use on Indonesian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese Wikipedias, with other projects at various stages of discussion and setup. You can track data about Automoderator's activity so far via a Superset dashboard. To request Automoderator on your Wikimedia project, please refer to the deployment steps.
We are wrapping up our focused time developing Automoderator while we review data and feedback about its impact. We also still plan to provide support for small Wikimedia projects with few/no administrators (T372280), and integrate the multilingual revert risk model, which is an improved version of the model currently in use, with support for 47 language Wikipedias. We're looking for support testing the multilingual model to better understand its behaviour - please check out the testing process and review some edits!
Nuke extension ('Mass delete')
[edit]During the 2024-2025 Wikimedia Foundation fiscal year, our team wants to make improvements to the software that moderators (patrollers, administrators, stewards, etc.) are using today, rather than focusing on building new tools. Although it's valuable to build new features, it's also important that we continue maintaining the important tools that are already being used to maintain and improve Wikipedia's quality.
One such project is to make usability and feature improvements to the Nuke extension (known as 'mass delete' on some projects). We have contracted a community developer, Chlod, who has worked on the extension in the past, to help us with this! With the Nuke project, we hope to make a number of improvements, including additional filters, increasing the deletion time range, automated deletion of related pages, and bug fixes. Recent Changes
[edit]As part of our efforts to improve existing impactful moderator tooling, we are working on a project for a few months to make improvements to Special:RecentChanges and related workflows. We will be prioritizing work for this project on an ongoing basis, but have some larger projects that we will solicit input for via our project page. We have a brief survey at Moderator Tools/Survey:Recent Changes to gather input for this project - please answer the questions if you're interested.
Task prioritization
[edit]Finally, looking to the future, we plan to research and work on tasks identified as part of the Community Wishlist focus area titled 'task prioritization'. We'll be looking for opportunities to speak with editors about how they decide what needs their attention, and in particular will be investigating the Watchlist to see where we might be able to make usability and feature improvements. If you have thoughts about opportunities in this focus area please share them on the task prioritization talk page, or file a new wish!
