Speedy deletion declined: UbseyMovies

Hello Cliffsteinman, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of UbseyMovies - a page you tagged - because: Not unambiguous advertising (can be cleaned without a fundamental rewrite). Rfa

I was a little surprised, and flattered, by the Rfa nomination -- I am going to have to think about it. Thanks.  – ukexpat (talk) 00:07, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I have given this some very careful thought today. Obviously I appreciate the confidence that you have in me, but I don't think I am ready, for a number of reasons, to jump into the Rfa process at the moment. I am not sure technically what this means for the nomination page - whether we leave as is, or whether I should formally decline the nomination. Thanks again, I am truly humbled by your nomination. – ukexpat (talk) 19:12, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Note to Cliffsteinman: I reverted your copying of the above comment onto the RfA page. It's okay to let an RfA stay in limbo if the potential nominee hasn't accepted it yet. However, if he chooses definitely to not accept, the RfA page might be deleted so that any future RfA would not seem like a "re-run". Soap Talk/Contributions 19:32, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Comments on Change

I made my user page...well it was there just not much of anything. Anything you like/don't like please comment. Or anything you'd like to see, or would look good. Cliffsteinman (talk) 09:38, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

Hi. I've added the tool flag to your account. Please review WP:RBK and remember to use it only for obvious and clearcut vandalism. If you need any help let me know. Pedro :  Chat  21:11, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

The indecision is that I normally don't judge any editor by edit count - but I do like to take a look! On first review I noted some solid undo's, no block log and a clean talk page so I granted - then I realised that where I normally click "500" on the contribution list I was still looking at "50" - and that you had less than 100 edits. Often I'm not keen on granting with that little experience in terms of tenure as well as edit - it does give a crude assesment of experience in that way. I decided, on balance, that my first instinct was correct however. Pedro :  Chat  21:16, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

NA Slavery

Thank you. Yah I just caught that. :)Mcelite (talk) 05:33, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi. You and I just had an edit conflict over this article. I was just trying to do some drive-by improvements, and have no interest in doing extensive editing here. I will save my edit which conflicted with yours in User:Wtmitchell/Sandbox in case you are interested in using some parts of it. That temporarily-saved edit may be overwritten at any time, but will likely remain intact for a few days at least. Cheers, Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 05:55, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion: Liskom

Hello! Сould You explain to me why you want to delete my page "Liskom"? Regards, JohnVla (talk) 06:38, 29 June 2009 (UTC).

  • Sure, With only one line of wording the company is not explained very well. There's no support for the notability of the company. Think of reading this in an encyclopedia, which Wikipedia is. You would expect to know about the history, products, and things like that. An article similar to this would be Xerox. Also please tag your page with {{hangon}} SO that it doesn't get deleted yet. Cliffsteinman (talk) 06:42, 29 June 2009 (UTC) Best thing to do would be to create it under User:JohnVla/Liskom then move it to the mainspace when it's ready that way it doesn't get deleted then have issues when trying to recreate it. 06:46, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your response! Of course i will write more about this notable russian company, but i need some more time.
  • One more question please! I have seen in Wikipedia many articles about the manufacturing companies without a lot of text and information, for examle Oak_Manufacturing. Why the article like this are not for "speedy deleting"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnVla (talkcontribs) 06:55, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
    • A good question indeed, the Oak_Manufacturing article does have some history of the company and general content about what they do and written in a neutral point of view. Your info box on the right side is a good addition. There just needs to be more about the company and what they make, maybe some sales numbers. Best thing to do is make it a subpage then move it to the mainspace when it's got some content. Cliffsteinman (talk) 07:02, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnVla (talkcontribs) 07:12, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

What happens? My page has been removed, when I expanded it! Help me please!

  • Hi again!

User:Richardshusr is not responding. So i have restored my page (I hope, this is not very bad?) And I have added more information to the page, could You take a look, please?

  • Fine! Thank You! If some help with Russian language will required for you, please write to me anytime! :) (my email: ivan.vlassov@gmail.com) JohnVla (talk) 06:02, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
    • I have added some more information to the article (about the patent), take a look, please. Could you remove the "Under constraction" notification from the page, please? JohnVla (talk) 09:19, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I have one more problem with my article: it's not possible to upload the logo at Commons.Wikimedia (where is hosted in this time), because it's a "non-free". It's only possible at Wikipedia. But I can't upload any file at Wikipedia, because I don't have the permissions for this operation. Could You do that? The logo URL is http://liskom.ru/images/liskom_logo.png JohnVla (talk) 11:13, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Patent Nonsense

No problem, I chuckled at the "vandalism" edit summary as well. Sometimes it can be hard to decide which deletion tag it a good fit for an "entry", but I would definitely agree with your choice of "patent nonsense" on that page. :D --Nsaum75 (talk) 07:27, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

  • To:Kingpin13 I feel this falls under "2. Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no reasonable person can be expected to make any sense of it whatsoever." under the definition for patent nonsense. Is this not correct? This entry makes no sense and while there are words and figures, it explains nothing and isn't even made into sentences. Cliffsteinman (talk) 07:52, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
G1 should be used sparingly, as some sense could be made out of this page (it was a chart, although I didn't look amazingly closely at it) I personally don't think G1 isn't what you should have used. A better criteria might have been G2 or A3. Why should G1 be used sparingly? Mainly because it can be rather bitey to new user to have a page which they've worked on being called nonsense, and also because it only applies to a very small amount of pages, although it is probably one of the most overused CSDs. - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:00, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
  • I see. But, being called TARGET PAGE and having this content seems to be just that, nonsense. I do understand the idea behind not using it for the reasons given and of course to be "friendly" to new users. I can see how other editors would use this incorrectly a lot but this is the first time I've thought a page to be truly fitting of this description. Thank you for the information to the both of us, I'll alert the other editor of this conversation. Cliffsteinman (talk) 08:04, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Well normally the pages which are considered to meet G1 are ones which have content such as "hgffsfdsg fdfd bfb dffd" (you're likely to come across one in the future). The real reason you couldn't make sense of it was because there was not enough context (see CSD A1), it was possible to reach a conclusion as to what the page was (so not suitable G1), maybe not what the different figures represented (although like I said, I didn't get much of a chance to see it before it got deleted). Thus A1/A3 would have been better than G1. - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:11, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Nepenthes sp. Misool

Hi there. I plan on expanding this article soon based on its description in Pitcher Plants of the Old World (2009). There is no published information on carnivory that is specific to this species (as there is for, say, Nepenthes aristolochioides); general information can be found in the main Nepenthes article (which is in dire need of expansion too!). mgiganteus1 (talk) 19:21, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Hah, well I'm no expert in the field, just know a little bit about everything and everything about nothing...as they say. Maybe an {{underconstruction}} tag would be good to keep someone from tagging is for CSD. Cliffsteinman (talk) 19:24, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Unblock please

{{unblock|1=I'm using WiFi from a Southwest Airlines flight. My IP is blocked and I paid $8 to keep editing on the plane, bummer. As you can see by my history I'm a reviewer, admin hopeful, rollbacker, can you unblock this IP please? The admin that initially put the block in place, WilliamH, is no longer an active user. Thank you. 184.169.0.0/16 is the IP it has me under...a /16 is an extremely wide IP range to block too. Couldn't this be narrowed so that registered and confirmed users like me can still edit from Southwest networks?}}

If I understand you correctly, you were blocked while on-board the flight. I assume that you are not blocked at your usual, or present, location? If you are, please say so here. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 12:03, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
I presume this flight is long since over. Kuru (talk) 01:02, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
That's correct. I'd still like to see this corrected for others who have this issue though. I was concerned how long it took to get a response and I noticed there is quite a backlog in the request for unblocks. I'd love to help with things like that as my degree is in Telecommunications and IPs are my specialty but it will probably be a while before I officially put in my RfA because of my edit count, I've had the userbox for quite some time but it's more wishful thinking than anything. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 12:59, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Yes. The problem is that vandalism from mobile ISPs can only be prevented, or at least limited, by this sort of block. And the problem for established editors is only very temporary. The $8 fee allows you to access the internet, just not to edit on Wikipedia. I think there is no prospect of this changing. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 14:22, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Incidentally I feel that a twelve-hour response, given that your request was posted around midnight, my time, is not unreasonable.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 14:27, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
I don't have the exact IP that you were assigned, but the range belongs to Direcway/HughesNet, and SWA is probably assigned IPs just like any other satellite customer. In any case, the range was heavily abused by sockpuppets and/or meatpuppets, so an unblock of the entire range is probably not a good idea, either. Any editor who is frequently caught behind rangeblocks may request IP block exemption to be able to edit from those ranges. —DoRD (talk) 14:58, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

General Hospital Page

Hi, I'm an autoconfirmed user and I got a message in my e-mail about someone editing the page and it was not an autoconfirmed user or a confirmed user. How do I go about getting the page semi-protected? Thank You in advance for your help. Kiraroshi1976 (talk) 17:48, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

You'll want to go to Wikipedia:RFP and put your request for protection at the top of the list. It looks like they're keeping up pretty well today so it may not take much time to get that taken care of. Thank you for your concern with the accuracy of Wikipedia and certainly let me know if you have any other questions! cliffsteinman -- Discuss 17:52, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm new to how use that tool. Would you be able to ask for the semi-protection of the page? I know how do some things on here and I am learning. I just don't want to make a mistake. Kiraroshi1976 (talk) 18:08, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
It's a very friendly community so you don't have to worry about making mistakes...as we know, nothing is permanent on here. Give it a shot and I'll adjust it if it needs it, you would certainly not be the worst request that's ever come across there. :D cliffsteinman -- Discuss 18:35, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I just tried to do it. I'm not sure if I did it right. You might want to check to make sure. Kiraroshi1976 (talk) 19:02, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
That looks great! Should be what they're looking for. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 19:06, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate your help. I don't like vandalism no matter if it's on here or at my home. Kiraroshi1976 (talk) 19:11, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
