If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. Peer review of dancehall article

[edit]

Lead

[edit]

Guiding questions:

The lead is good as far as it goes, but it does not summarize the entire article as is. There is no mention of the culture of dancehall, or of the criticisms, for instance.

Content

[edit]

Be sure that every part of the article has a source. There are currently paragraphs with no sources. Either add citations to them, or remove them.

There's currently a lot of redundancy in the body. For instance, the paragraph that begins "Dancehall music, also called ragga or dub..." seems to start the article all over again. Edit things to sound more coherent. The first section says it will talk about the 1970s, but it covers 1970-2000s. THEN we start back over in the next section, which picks up with the DJ scene. Over all, the entire history section needs to be reorganized so that it actually follows a chronological order.

Wikipedia articles don't have "summary" sections, so remove that section or incorporate it somewhere else.

Tone and Balance

[edit]

This is fine.

Sources and References

[edit]

Why no information from Krista Thompson? We read an entire article about dancehall, but it's not mentioned here.

Organization

[edit]

See my comments above. The article is in OK shape, but it needs some serious editing to remove all the unsourced information, and the double history (the history seems to be given twice). Likewise, it devolves into a long list of "this artist did this, then this artist did this" toward the end. That makes for sloppy writing, and much of that could be cleaned up.

Images and Media

[edit]

Odd that there's only one image! Is there nothing else that can be added?

Overall impressions

[edit]

Over all, this is a B-, C+ in the current state. It could be improved greatly by following my suggestions above. Abukun (talk) 19:47, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
