Memphis

[edit]

Hi, Chris. I guess you didn't notice my note on the Memphis talk page, so I'll post it here, too.

The nickname section of city infoboxes is usually reserved for the more recognized nicknames of that city, so I removed a handful of the more obscure or less common ones. Many, many cities are referred to by their residents by the city's first initial or the first part of it's name followed by -town (Take 'nap-town' for Annapolis, MD for an amusing example,) and frequently by their area codes as well. There's no need to add every single nickname used for a given city - I think two is enough. New York City only has its primary nick, "The Big Apple" listed, even though it has several others.

If you feel that it's important that these names be included in the page, please state your reasoning on the talk page. Thanks. -- Vary | Talk 05:23, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to comment about the copyright status of some images that you have uploaded. The maps used in the Memphis aritcle appear to be taken from a website and an atlas that likely do not distribute their maps under a free license. While Wikipedia often asserts fair use of such material, uploading these files is technically copyright infringement, especially when the files are fairly large and high resolution as the ones you have uploaded. Thank you for your other contributions to Wikipedia, but please be mindful of copyright in the future; maybe try to find some images that are in the public domain or distributed under a free license. - Jersyko talk 21:27, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Big-m-bridge1-new.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 08:51, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits

[edit]

Please discuss edits regarding images that have unknown copyright status on the artices' talk pages before restoring the images to the articles. Wikipedia could be sued for copyright infringement if copyrighted images taken from other websites are displayed on Wikipedia without appropriate tags (though fair use is always a defense). I hope you see how this is an important issue on Wikipedia that is worthy of discussion. - Jersyko talk 03:55, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your edits to Pyramid, please don't replace images which have been removed because of copyright problems. Some of these are your images, so I would exhort you to go fix the licenses on the images, and if the copyright is fine, then replace them in the article with the edit summary saying something like "Fixed copyright" or something. Don't just put them back, because as Jersyko said, Wikipedia could be sued, and then none of your pictures are going to do anyone any good. Makemi 04:17, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Redbirds logo.gif)

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Redbirds logo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 18:34, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Yo Gotti.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Yo Gotti.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image:Playa Fly.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Playa Fly.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShadowHalo 22:31, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Yo Gotti.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yo Gotti.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:35, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One of your images is back

[edit]

On March 5, 2006, you posted one of your own images over another with the same name, which was File:IMG 0778.JPG. That image was reverted under it's previous version, but has recently been renamed as File:Aon Center in Chicago fog; 2004.JPG. I also took your version of that file, and renamed it under the the title File:Frisco, Harahan, and Memphis-Arkansas Bridge at Dusk.jpg, partially because I thought it was an attractive shot. I gave you full credit for the image. If you have any comment on this let me know. ----DanTD (talk) 03:07, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
