Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Max Wilkinson, and I noticed that your username, "Cheltlibdems", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Your username suggests that it is being used not by a single individual but by a team: this is against Wikipedia's policy. In addition, please read WP:COI and WP:PAID. If whoever is editing this article is a paid member of Max's staff, they must declare this and should not edit the article. Volunteers in the team have WP:COI and should only edit the article minimally, making suggestions for improvement on the article talk page. PamD 16:13, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo, As you seem to have ignored this post (you're still editing today with the same username), I've reported your username at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. You need to abide by Wikipedia's rules about choice of username and make it clear that the name is not being used by a team of people. Each person has to take responsibility for their own edits, it's how the encyclopedia works. You can be "Jane at CheltLibDems" etc: just read the message above. Thanks. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for expanding the basic article I created in the middle of the night as the results came through.

There are a few things to point out, as well as the problem with your user name shown above.

  1. Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia rather than a fanzine, refers to people by surname, not given name
  2. Please don't use "curly" or "slanted" quotes or apostrophes
  3. Everything must be referenced to Reliable independent published sources (most of your input is)
  4. Date format: for dates within references, all-numerical dates like "2024-07-04" are not used. In the "access-date", it's optional to use all-numerical, but the format established when the article was created should be followed. So this article uses "4 July 2024" format both in references and in access-dates
  5. Please always check your links: the refs to the 2017 and 2019 results weren't right, as they didn't lead to the specific pages only to a generic front page

There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey, though you do need to be aware of those rules about Usernames, Conflict of interest and Paid editing.

I'm trying to help here, as a paid-up Lib Dem member (though not active in the latest election for fear of splitting the anti-Tory vote: my local Labour candidate was successfully elected, and our Lib Dem trailed in at 9.9%!), and a long-standing Wikipedia editor (I was editing Greg Mulholland's article in 2007, and was part of the team that got him elected). Congratulations on getting your man elected, and welcome to Wikipedia. PamD 17:03, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And please note that you must not add stuff that you "know", like "the newspaper he delivered as a paperboy in his teens". If he has said that in some interview published in the local press, or on a web page somewhere, then fine, re-add it with the reference. But it isn't in the LinkedIn source, so it now isn't in the Wikipedia article, even if he has frequently said it to you in the constituency office. (And please take care with references: his education and his experience are on different pages in LinkedIn, so they need to be two separate references). Thanks. PamD 09:14, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change to this account.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Important items to note:

  • The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • The new username you choose cannot already be taken and used by another account. You can search here to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns, "There is no global account for [username]", that means it is available.
  • Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
