Martial Arts links
No problems, I've done similar things. Which links in particular are redundant? The links in that initial section are meant to provide easy reference, especially as it is the kind of article that people unfamiliar with the one link per page convention will read. --Nate1481( t/c) 11:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Belt Ranks in Kenpo
Charleca, I saw your removal of the intermediate stripes on the American Kenpo page. I agree with your edit taking them out because the schools I knew from the 80s on did not use them. However, the Ed Parker's Kenpo Karate school I began studying at in 1972 (in Buena Park, CA, run by Tony Sartor, Pierre Bergere and Fred Brewster) did use the intermediate stripes. That was back in the days of 32-techniques per belt. At the time, there were no yellow belt techniques. The yellow belt was awarded after testing on 16 of the orange-belt techniques and one side of Short Form 1. Purple, blue, and green belts had intermediate stripes of the next color awarded after learning 16 of the techniques towards the next belt. The idea made a lot of sense then. Since the school policy was to teach 1 technique per week, it would take close to a year between belt promotions. (A few dedicated students would be taught 2 per week.) Using that curriculum, the intermediate stripe was a valuable pat on the back to keep morale high during the long slog to the next belt. I think the 24-technique curriculum obviated its use... and clearly the 20, 18, and 16 belt curricula people often use today make the intermediate stripes meaningless. - Thanks, Vantelimas. I didn't know all of that. I'll have to look that up. -Charleca (talk) 21:33, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
