Keonho's peer review

[edit]

Hello I read your article and really enjoyed learning about Blakeslea trispora but i would like to make some suggestion that may help. In description section, everything made perfect sense to me. You stated physical characteristics of Blakeslea trispora and their history. You also mentioned "The colonies of Blakelsea trispora can grow rapidly on the agar medium at 25°C" and this sentence was supported by journal (Benny, G.L; O’Donnell, K.L (1978). Lower fungi in the laboratory. Palfrey Contributions in Botany. University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia.: Department of Botany. p. 135-136.) that suggests Blakeslea trispora can be isolated from the soil in Florida, Southern Asia, Southern United states where lots tropical plants are located (High temperature). In growth and reproduction section, you mentioned "Blakeslea trispora is a zygomycete which can reproduce sexually and asexually" however I noticed you focused too much on sexual reproduction of Blakeslea trispora. When I looked up the journal that you used for reference (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1021432007070), it emphasized sproangiospores of Blakeslea trispora (asexual spores of zygomycota) is accompanied by elevated amounts of sterols, sterol esters and free fatty acids which accounts for 70% of the total neutral lipids. As we learned from class, you may also state the word "exogenous and endogenous (constitutive) dormancy" directly into your sentence to demonstrate the difference in dormancy state between sexual and asexual spores of Blakeslea trispora. In physiology and sexual reproduction section, there were lots of words that i was not familiar with such as tsp3 gene, carotenoids etc which made harder to understand. You should try to link these words to other wikipedia page that describes the words by highlighting the word and click double ring icon (Link Ctrl+L). Before you talk about relevance to human health section, you should mention why Blakeslea trispora produce β-carotene and lycopene. You may ask yourself: What is the benefits of β-carotene and lycopene in Blakeslea trispora? Is β-carotene and lycopene product of primary, secondary metabolite or perhaps other substances from Blakeslea trispora? Overall, i enjoyed reading your article which was clear and detailed. Good luck on your final draft! KeonHoKim (talk) 07:54, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I looked over your draft on Blakeslea trispora and I think you have one of the best drafts that I have seen so far! It is extremely detailed and honestly I wanted to help out by filling in missing points and what not, but I feel like you have covered most of the important things! I feel like just touching up the structure/organization of the article would be of priority, as I believe you have got most of your references and information down. If I could be of any help however in that area, I have some links you may want to check out, if you have not already, that may assist you in adding some fundamental information for your species - http://eol.org/pages/307247/overview - http://eol.org/pages/307247/details - these are from the encyclopedia of life, and they include many information that may be of use. Overall, I really love the way you have progressed already and I feel like the final draft will be fantastic!! Good luck! HenryJeon (talk) 17:40, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
